the one good thing is that hp inclined for you to be able to apply ur ideas and hacks easily without restraint because they feel that the device is yours. And a hp tablet with a linux kernel? the only thing that couldve made this better is hp making the ram 4 gb or more 1 gb isnt enough 2 gets the job done 3 works fine but 4 6 8 and 12 make the computers and tablets godlike. we need more ram in these devices thats always been the reason why devices dont work so well. that and hard drive space
I own the Pixi. I can honestly say.... Its the worst phone ever. Its like using a really old PC with Windows 7. Its so slow, and constantly restarts because its overloaded. I really like the OS... But i feel that Palm made some really poor decisions.
WebOS is great and it's such a green field for developers. iOS is still the platform of choice because of the potential market capacity but hopefully that will change. The problem with iOS is you need a mac/hackintosh to develop. WebOS is all about open standards. Look at Sencha Touch if you're a developer.
Interesting. I actually didn't know that HP was allowing free development on their WebOS platform, especially with the fact that the new HP TouchPad is essentially a fully hackable device to throw test codes/kernels/etc... in. I'll jump into the developers program for WebOS in a few days. Looking forward to it.
@Worfox1 I certainly like that approach better than marginalizing users who want to extend their device the way Apple does with iOS and their stance on jailbreaking.
Wow, HP actually wants us to hack our devices? Does it still void the warranty that all other manufacturers do?

@InvisiMan2006 definitely not, they fully support the homebrew community!

@TheTrueTechCentury It sounds like the Web OS apps could be run in a modern Internet browser. If that is so, then they are web pages... I think...
SqeakyGoldfish 7 months ago
@SqeakyGoldfish webOS will be running on PCs by the end of the year per HP. They are "like" web pages.

@lockergnome WebOS is dead. HP has just killed off -- i.e, will no longer produce -- WebOS phones and touchpad.
It's the first casualty of the smartphone/touchpad war.
Next to die: Windows Phone OS.
Prediction: In the end, only iPhone/iPad and Google Android will remain. Everything else will be competed out of the market.

@TheDjWMD i would pay to see that
but i'd think you'd need some more power under the hood at least 1GB of ram at most
but if you were to put ubuntu onto the HP phones that would be funny
