not many know this but good vibrations is missing lyrics. the part where it says "close my eyes, shes somehow closer now. softly smile i know she must be kind.when i look in her eyes, she goes with me to a blossom world." was originally "close my eyes, shes somehow closer now. softly smile i know she must be kind. when i look in her eyes she goes with me to a blossom world TO FIND." The lyrics were cut by Brian to give the bass a starting point for that little riff. kind and find rhyme though.
@MrDeepsouthpacific , The Beatles had some very good songs, but this song is in a world of its own. '
Living out here in CA, it is wonderful to feel these good vibrations in my heart. There is nothing better than being high, solely on love. It can make you forever young.
both of these bands were great, but the beatles get the edge. the beatles released rubber soul and the beach boys topped that with pet sounds, but the beatles topped that with sgt pepper , and the beach boys then quit trying to best the beatles
please. good vibrations has never been issued in stereo. this is Duophonic, the awful rechanneled mono that Capitol released their albums in in the sixties. i had pet sounds in this form and it was painful.
@dojotommy123 in the video, is bruce johnston who replaced brian on bass for the live performances, the brian's vocals were sung by alan who shares a similar voice with the eldest wilson
Read somewhere that they were "eclipsed" by the Beatles. So true! Some kids had no choice but the Beatles playing EVERywhere. Kind of reminds me of the Justin Bieber thang... Anyway, too bad I couldn't get into them as a kid! Love them now!!!!!!!!!! SURfin' USA 4ever!!!!!
NO, THEY DIDN'T TRY TO LOOK LIKE THE BEATLES. THEY WERE THE ONLY BAND THEN WHO STOOD UP TO THE BEATLES. AMERICA'S FINEST. THEY HAD THEIR SIGNATURE MUSIC. SA KANILA LANG YAN, NOH!
@1jedidiah1 The Beach Boys and Beatles were friends actually. =)) Or at least Paul is with Brian Wilson. Its one of those things where its friendly rivalry. Like Ryu and Ken in Street Fighter. The Beatles genius was to make feature length movies and approve merchandising themselves endlessly. The Beach Boys had their pushy dad breathing down their throat. Its like American Pie. If they thought something might be cool they went the other way with it after they saw their dad trying to be hip too.
@1jedidiah1 and the only band who almost beat the beatles, there would be no revolver or pepper without pet sounds, there would no be strawberry fields without good vibrations, the beatles fan are so sick about them that they think the beatles invented everything, and THAT'S NOT THE TRUTH, the difference is that the four beatles wanted to evolve, in the beach boys only brian was the main force. if smile had been released, the beach boys would have been the best band in the 60 period
@jmactemin "there would be no revolver or pepper without pet sounds" - And yet there would be no Pet Sounds without Rubber Soul. When Wilson heard Rubber Soul he was blown away by it and set out to make something as good, the result being Pet Sounds.
So I think it's clear that both the Beatles and Beach Boys were great, and they complimented each other, each feeding off the other's greatness.
@jmactemin That´s True, However first well known band that dis take risk in new music were the beatles. In fact, Pet sounds were inspired by Rubber Soul. So many people at that time were looking for something new, It was such an amazing period for that movement, and the beatles took music to another level.
@finalismo that's true, but remember that the beach boys were the only band of members (not like a solo with a backin band like the pioneers) BEFORE the beatles, the problem was that the beach boys extended the surf rock songs too long and the beatles were changing all the time, The singles were always differnt, and the british invasion of 64 was a reason that the beach boys lose momentum in a time were they were still developing,
@finalismo one more thing: the beatles didn't invent everything, they took influences and they add their own trademark better than everybody else: the 12 string guitar of If I needed someone was already used by the birds, who also have played the sitar before (but never recorded it) the lennon lyrics were very influenced by dylan, the problem is that the hardcore beatle fans never take care of listening other records, so they think that lennon invented everything, bollocks to them!
@edcurant No. Contrary to popular belief, The Beatles didn't fucking invent everything that has ever existed. This is how several people dressed back then.
makes me sick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! brian did it so much better! and the fact that they neglected smile and took on this song...f'n disgusting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
where does the piece at 2:44 come from? the record i have of this doesnt have that in it so is it different "mix" if you will? must admit i love it though
Exactly. That's what I was thinking. And Dennis was playing an invisible tamborine. LOL
I have no doubt that Carl REALLY COULD play a bass. He played Lead guitar, rythmn guitar, keyboards, drums. What a musical guy! I think the whole family was amazingly musically gifted. Even Dennis played keyboards. WOW
Carl was actually a great bass player, there is an album that has some covers on it such as Blueberry Hill and Palasades Park where Carl was actually credited on the album for playing bass. Al Jardine was a great bass player too, there are a few videos with him playing Barbara Ann. There are some pics with either Carl or Al playing bass.
@Okiemom50 And Carl had perfect pitch as to why Brian had him sing lead in many songs. I love his vocals in “I can hear music”…that song truly expresses his range and perfectly pitched vocals.
@FullMoonVideo Why is Carl singing lead on this? I know Brian was the one who originally did the lead. Maybe it was after he left the group. Such a shame! Brian Wilson is a musical genuis in my opinion and a lot of his problems came from their abusive dad Murray. Strange how some of the most popular bands had an abusive father--ie the Jacksons for instance.
@napachild Brian was very much a part of the group when this song was released. Brian was a perfectionist and prob chose Carl for the lead since his voice fit the song best.
Brian and his siblings went through the same abuse many children go through…sad but true. Brian was extremely sensitive as one can see from his music, and no doubt the LSD contributed to his mental state there after. I know kids when growing up that dropped acid and never came back to their former selves.
@FullMoonVideo It makes me SOOOO grateful I never did that stuff. I had a problem with alcohol, but not that crap. I hope Brian is living in peace these days.
@FullMoonVideo I am at least 10 years younger than Brian, but I do know that drugs were and are a horror. Alchohol is a potent tranquilizer, but it can't compete with LSD and other drugs or so I hear. (Marijuana is not nearly as dangerous as alcohol, but everyone must proceed with caution.)
The parental abuse I cannot speak to, not having experienced it, but I do know that once you are an adult (18), you and not your parents are responsible for your behavior.
Did you know it was written about a dog? Brian Wilson said he noticed that this dog was sensitive to the changing vibrations as each different person came into the room carrying and distributing their personal energies. Listen to the lyrics and you'll hear it.
Check out my full version of this song in stereo I made for my SMiLE project. I'm super happy with it and i think it's probably the best all around version of Good vibrations anywhere. The transitions are much smoother now.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is just two mono versions programmed to play separately in each channel (the left and right channels). I think the right channel's volume is turned slightly down to give it a stereo effect.
In other words, this isn't TRUE stereo, but still a good unofficial mix.
@Adema1226 actually I mixed a True Stereo Version made with the original mono 45rpm single and an instrumental stereo track but the vocals were on the right and the instruments on the left channel so I decided to split the voice into 2 channels, this isn't 100% stereo but I'm pretty sure that each channel is different so yes,it is in STEREO and this is the best sounding mix you will find,if you want I can send you the song to your email in mp3 format
@jpezeta So basically, this is a fake stereo version as no real stereo version exist. Only the stereo backing track is out there. It does indeed sound like either the mono on each channel with some phasing or reEQing. You can hear the slapback echo caused by the different speeds of each channel. Each channel is the same thing as you can really hear the phasing around the 1:42 mark. Awesome effort for the track but please do not fool people.
@jpezeta hey do you think you can send this version to my email in mp3 format? i find myself listening to it all the time more than the original lol, the part at 2:14- and on gets me every time, wonderful mix. Thanks i'd appreciate the feedback

The Beach Boys were a great band and loved their music!! Especially Good Vibrations.
