Keep in mind, that lift weighs at least 7500lbs. That much weight X 7 MPH = 1.8 fucktons of kinetic energy. The racks at my work are "protected" by 1/4" steel plate "L" bended guards which do as much good as tissue paper versus our fleet of Crown pallet smashers. It's a strange sensation indeed when your stand-up (skateboard :D) reach truck weighing 9,400lbs (at least) goes up on 3 wheels every time you make that fucked up sloped turn from aisle 39 to the dock door just a little too hasty.

@Liberator975 i have never seen pallet racks with beams that thin and flimsy. i have worked many warehouses and in the states speck pallet racks are much heavier duty than those.  i saw a support beam get crunched much worse than that and the rack held because that's what they are designed to do. there is a maximum weight you can put on them too to prevent just that from happening. the heavier the pallets the heavier the racks. i used to load 3500 pound pallets that had to have special racks.

You're all wrong sorry! The warehouse owner and managers should be fired. Generals can't blame the foot soldiers when they lose the war! The warehouse owner and managers are to blame more than the operator. Warehouses would come down DAILY if pallet racks were not properly secured. It is impossible to drive a forklift without an occasional accident, just like in cars.

The forklift operator made a small human error. It occurs often. The rack was not installed to code. It should be bolted into the floor with 3 1/4 hardened steel toggles. It should have bumper guards on the corners where it could be hit. A second row of rack should never come down because hit by the first.
