can you make it without the starter?? sample you just make the solution of water,yeast, and oatmeal. i have tried it once but why is there big worms on it???

those were maggots and no you cannot start a culture without a starter first

You buy a starter culture that someone is selling. Once you receive it you make the medium, add the water, other product needed & then add the starter culture, put the lid on it & wait for 5-7 days. After which time, then you can feed your fish.
