Dude, the environment is supposed to look shitty as hell because no one knows how to maintain anything, did you notice the "roped together buildings"?
Anyone who takes this movie seriously is an idiot. I thought the movie was great, Mike Judge is a visionary who deserves way more credit for his work. I have read the comments here and I can agree with what people are saying, the truth hurts. The way Mike portrays corporations and people is spot on to where we are headed.
The only thing that keeps this movie from being a smash hit is that it hits too close to home. The truth hurts, even when couched as a comedy. This movie is much more of a prophesy for our times than a comedy. Even the reviewer kid in this clip misses the point entirely. The USA is on the fast track to Idiocracy and none dare call it by its name, so the movie got panned. Mike Judge is a modern-day prophet (brought to you by Carl Jr.).
Nice review. The overarching message here is that Pop-Culture banality, immaturity and irresponsibility are contributing to our collective decline. The film did not miss it's mark on the hideous undertones that exist in current modern-day society.
@MrCorporalTunnel Sara Rue has ALWAYS been bangable! IMO This movie looks very interesting. I'm going to get it from Netflix and check it out. Looks like something I'd enjoy. For a movie that came out 5 years ago though, I'm surprised I had NEVER heard of it until today. Bad marketing.
if they're all idiots how'd they come up with all that technology, and if the techs were left behind how'd they learn? Nothin like Futurama. this movie was dumb and I was dumb for watchin it
I enjoyed your review. I bought Idiocracy two years ago and have watched it three times. Every time I notice new details. It is really funny. My grown kids love it. My mom is 86 and thinks it's hilarious. She's a sci-fi buff. I agree that the population is being dumbed-down, but it's partly because parents wanted lower standards so their kids could get into college. As a result, a college degree doesn't mean what it did 50 years ago and good teachers are harder to find.
I'm actually kinda surprised that the lefties didnt jump all over this one. Typically, lefties tend to argue there is no such thing as intelligence, or that their are multiple intelligence's, or that it is a product of a childs environment. This movie is now an cult classic, and they let it slip completely underneath the radar. I'm yet to find anyone that slammed this movie for its extreme political incorrectness.
International Bankers are the source of the dumbing-down of society or something, right? How about Crass-Commercialism and rewarding bad behavior? What do you think about them apples?
Nice review. I too had never heard of it til a friend loaned it to me. You can't go wrong with a Mike Judge film. That was a no brainer! (no pun intended lol!!)
Ufortunately, I think we as a society are already there.
One of my all time favorite movies. Today my son asked me why Gatorade made him feel so good after a work out. I said, "cause it has Electrolytes!" My son replied, "Yeah. It's what plants crave!" Anybody hear about Obama's education plan? Basically, it's don't give them the test because they can't pass it. Let's get rid of the tests. Testing is the problem! Not only that. No! The poor little tykes shouldn't be bored, they should be entertained!
I saw this movie at the theater and hated it. My friend made me watch it again ( on DVD ) and I loved it. What's even more interesting about this movie was that FOX did NOTHING to promote the movie. No trailers, no commercials, no press kits, no screenings... and it was only released in 120 theaters! It BOMBED. Wonder what the issues were with the movie?
This movie is not a comedy. It is satire. While its portrayals are humorous, the point of this movie is to satirically illustrate where we're headed. The point of the characters stupid and child-like behavior is INTENTIONAL. You're not to LOOK PAST that and other foolishness to get to a good story, you're to recognize that the foolishness is the SUBJECT and POINT of this satire. Your review doesn't intelligently assess this movie, which is hilariously ironic.
Actually this film can be compared to Farenheit 451, and 1984, albeit tongue in cheek. I think we hare heading towards a totalitarian state, with a dumbed-down and docile population kept amused with stupid TV shows, cheap beer, and readily available drugs.
Think about this one thing with the movie... electricity, television, internet works, obviously gasoline is still around because cars run. How is this guy the smartest guy in this world when techs and engineers are needed to keep all of that running? It is a stupid movie, stupid premise, thinks it is more clever than it really is. There are so many movies better than it. What is this kid reviewer talking about?
@uh0oo lol, maybe I guess? idk... that is just how this movie struck me even though so many people think is so deep and clever... and I am a huge Mike Judge fan
@GGGGeorger I haven't seen the movie yet, butI guess in the future, there are IQ diffrences like today. The average American IQ today is 98. However, there are some people with a 120+, and others with a 50-. So if they're IQ average is saaaaaaaaaay.... 60, well there has to be a few 100+'s in the mix. But yeah, I have to agree with you, he's can't really be the smartest person.
@NamiTheNekoVamp I just can't get past electricity, TV and internet working in an age that dumb. I'm all for allowing movies to make a stretch/plot hole here and there, for the sake of the story, but in a movie lampooning society and people on the whole as stupid, I'd think Judge would do better with the plot line and back story. Then again, it is just comedy, but imho it's just not as clever as I think it tries to be.
@GGGGeorger Idiocracy isn't about global stupidity. Idiocracy is about where America is headed.
In the future world of Idiocracy, it can be safely inferred that China has long been the world's super power and manufacturer. Everything that is working in the idiot American future is either from China or is stuff that has somehow survived from the late 20th century- early 21st century America.
Already, offshore electric power stations owned and operated by China are in prototype.
I see the unappealing visuals of the future to be perfect for the story. As you said, it looked like a kindergartner designed the sets, and that's exactly how a society of morons would make the future look.
Really? So a society of idiots can bend and manipulate reality to make trees, air, sky and reality as we know it appear as an extremely large and poorly painted movie back drop? WOW! Maybe they are smarter than we thought.
I'd say that was not Judges point and it is more to do with budget.
@GGGGeorger I didn't mean to imply that it was intentional by Mike Judge. I just meant that the scenery looking like the work of children fit well with a future of people as smart of children.
@nja122890 well true, he is very artistic so i can give him leeway on that, when i first saw it i did not know it was a film of his and i just thought it was so stupid, like why not try CG which can be so cheap.
I can see our country heading this way ! Some of the people I see every day, and with stuff liie Lady Ga GA, and Jersey Shore theres all the proof You need !
I agree, this kid is too young to understand what the movie saying, it's showing where the human race is headed if we don't change, it's a satire I'd even go so far to say a documentary of our future based on the way things are now. wait about five more years kid then watch it again and should get it.
I disagree a lot on your comment on the art direction. great visual style, very fitting for the movie.
and you sort of get the point of the movie but you're not quite conscious of the fact that this movie is primarily a social commentary on society as a whole today. or rather then since today we have the tea baggers party who dreadfully are as stupid as the citizens are in this movie, meant as caricatures. yet are real now.
@Radicaljim93 Your use of a racial slur proves how intelligent you are, bro.
You're probably a moron like the film portrays, and thank god you're a minority that's slowly dying out in the face of modern education, and modern progressive social policies. This film is an absurdist satire (emphasis on satire) of modern American culture.
Modern American culture is not the average American, and average Americans would be offended by your pompous attitude.
Take a trip to walmart. This is the reality and the bleak future we have to look forward to. All the the low IQ creatures are the heavy breeders. They are quickly becoming the largest class of "people."
Little constructive criticism here - just listen to the first 3 minutes your review and see if the review could be interchangeable with any other movie.
I reckon you probably shouldn't do another movie review. Nice try but you really missed the point. This movie goes MUCH deeper than you realise. Still, kudos for the effort.
It's funny because its so true. This is our future. The "potty jokes" are supposed to be annoying. They're mocking the modern sense of humor. The only people I've met who don't like this movie are the people it's making fun of. They think it was atually supposed to be a dick and fart comedy and completely miss the part where it's mocking them and their sense of humor. If American culture takes over the world we'll be doomed as a species.
@DRAT311 It's funny to watch you, a total tool, post "American culture takes over the world we'll be doomed as a species" in English on a very popular American made invention (internet) and website (youtube).
@Tripo1iSamson Is your point that since I'm benefiting from things that are American then I cannot speak against American culture? Can someone who drives a Volkswagen not speak out against the Nazi's during WWII? Could someone who likes sushi not have looked down upon the Japanese invasion of Pearl Harbor? Are you really that simple minded? Many wonderful things come from America.. including ME. That has NOTHING to do with the point that American anti-intellectual culture is a bad thing.
@Tripo1iSamson Your response is a perfect representation of the anti-intellectual culture this movie is portraying. Someone makes a logical point and you have no response? Just call them names! "Joe stated his case logically and passionately. But his perceived effeminate voice only drew big gales of stupid laughter."
@DRAT311 "Many wonderful things come from America.. including ME" Stop loving yourself and have some respect for all the great technology you use to blow your own horn, loser.
@DRAT311 I did a quick scan of you and your opponent, Tripo1iSamson. You two are scarcely one school generation apart but, look at the dramatic difference in comment quality! You two are only two points on the Idiocracy graph but, DAMN, look at how far down your opponent is on the scale of social and educational development!
I've seen the decay of America for much longer than either of you but, now we are in runaway social entropy. The real Idiocracy won't be fun at all to live in at all!
Sometimes I think I can come up with a great argument for Socialism and human equality, and then . . . I remember this movie . . . or take a walk aound wal-mart and take a close look at the employees. And suddenly . . . I can't think of any reason why socialism would work, not because socialism is a bad idea in and of itself, but because people are so goddamn dumb.
I take issue with your review on the following points. You seemed to be more concerned with who would be offended by this film or put off by certain aspects of it. The problem with modifying this particular film to your specs would drastically diminish the entire message and point of this film. The stupid people had to be over the top and the picture had to be bleak in order for Judge to make the point he was trying to make. (to be continued)
listen..... you describe this movie as a 'clever movie' it is FAR MORE THAN THAT
you just MISSED THE POINT.... it is like you almost ARE part of the entire concept of the creation of it.... LOOK AROUND idiocracy IS HERE NOW. all you have to do is talk to "regular" people... some of those, ARE AS STUPID AS THE MOVIE MAKES THEM..... ask any bureaucrat to resolve a real problem.... you will be shocked....
It's a great satire for those of us old enough to remember when some intelligence was expected of a human. The film is scarily close to life as it's become.
I view this film also partially as a popular science film, as the narrator realizes that "evolution" doesn't necessarily mean changing into what we think of as better.
When I pulled up your video -- I almost turned you off right away thinking that you are too young to do a good movie review. Then I stopped when I heard an articulate and intelligent person speaking. Good job!
The reviewer had absolutely the wrong ideas about this movie. This is about the direction we are headed as a people, especially in the US. It's the McDonalidization and Incorporation of everything in our lives. We are being dumbed down to sheep, and that's exactly what the people in power want.
Absolutely loved this movie, one of my all-time favorites.
It's criminally under-appreciated and just plain unknown by too many people, I really hate how little support/advertising it got, the big corporate funders of the movie tried their best to make sure nobody saw it or even heard about it b/c of its really negative view of corporate bullshit.
@dylandionrakiman oh really? I know a six year old who knows where every nation in the world is, So please stop attempting to insult the U.S. when your IQ is below 56.
Daycron you hit it right on the damn head!!!!! this movie is one of my faves n i never knew it was out till i flipped thru the channels one day. itts such a REAL look at todays world our society as well as others are soo stupid and accept it or not but this is just a funnier, very true look at what we've become as humans
Yeah you laugh all the way through the movie. Then when it's over you say "OOOOHHH Shit!". The reason being that you realize how it's not that far from where we are actually headed.
i didn't like this movie the first time i saw it. i thought the acting sucked. since then i have seen it roughly 50 times and it is one of my favorite movies of all time. as with office space, you get so much more out of it the 3rd or 4th time seeing it. it's hysterical. still, not nearly enough was representational of population growth, overcrowding, or advances in technology. where we we 100 years ago? shouldn't we be much farther along 500 years from now?
Guess why this film didn't get the publicity it deserves, because people would realize what's going on in our society and start thinking. It's a bit over the top in the movie, but the message is clear. Due all the TV and brainwashing commercials, they drive you away from the things that are really important in your life, like the balance with your spirit. Buying and consuming stuff is the least important something which the companies want to plant in your head, to keep this money system alive.
@sunsetsd Well, it started off boring and slow, with this Dude from Cinemareviews trying to bullshit everyone with a bunch of smart talk: '"Blah blah blah. It's a good comic like movie!"' That part of the review sucked! But then the Chief J. just went off. He said, '"Man, whatever! The guy's guilty as shit! We all know that."' And he sentenced his ass to one night of rehabilitation.
I actually worked on this movie im the one driving the car through the car wash. That scene was filmed at the chevron gas station on the corner of Congress and Riverside in Austin TX.I wasnt actually driving but being pushed from behind by production crew and I got wet with that green stuff
Yet one thing I hate the most about this movie is NO COMMENTARY!

GOOD POINTS
*the scenes you pick for it are good and smart to show at some points
*this is a kick a** movie and i love that you speak of it so well.
BAD POINTS
*as i said before this is a kick a** movie so you should think about putting more energy and personality in ur voice.
*you could have shown a couple of different scenes.
OVERALL RATING
6/10
THANK YOU YOU HAVE JUST BEEN REVIEWED!!!! :D

No, no, this movie is appropriate for anyone who understands that this is the future. This obviously doesn't include the reviewer.

"This film did not get enough attention as it should have."*
"Not making it overly the top"*
*These two statements make no fucking sense.
Idiocracy, brought to you by Brawndo.
Thank you and good night.

Another comparison you might make would be to Woody Allen's "Sleeper."

I reckon you probably shouldn't do another movie review. Nice try but you really missed the point. This movie goes MUCH deeper than you realise. Still, kudos for the effort.

This movie is one of my favorite movies ever.

DRAT311 1 year ago 27
@DRAT311 It's funny to watch you, a total tool, post "American culture takes over the world we'll be doomed as a species" in English on a very popular American made invention (internet) and website (youtube).
Tripo1iSamson 11 months ago
@Tripo1iSamson Is your point that since I'm benefiting from things that are American then I cannot speak against American culture? Can someone who drives a Volkswagen not speak out against the Nazi's during WWII? Could someone who likes sushi not have looked down upon the Japanese invasion of Pearl Harbor? Are you really that simple minded? Many wonderful things come from America.. including ME. That has NOTHING to do with the point that American anti-intellectual culture is a bad thing.
DRAT311 11 months ago
@DRAT311 Tool.
Tripo1iSamson 11 months ago
@Tripo1iSamson Your response is a perfect representation of the anti-intellectual culture this movie is portraying. Someone makes a logical point and you have no response? Just call them names! "Joe stated his case logically and passionately. But his perceived effeminate voice only drew big gales of stupid laughter."
DRAT311 11 months ago
@DRAT311 Faggot.
Tripo1iSamson 11 months ago
@DRAT311 "Many wonderful things come from America.. including ME" Stop loving yourself and have some respect for all the great technology you use to blow your own horn, loser.
Tripo1iSamson 11 months ago
@DRAT311 I did a quick scan of you and your opponent, Tripo1iSamson. You two are scarcely one school generation apart but, look at the dramatic difference in comment quality! You two are only two points on the Idiocracy graph but, DAMN, look at how far down your opponent is on the scale of social and educational development!
I've seen the decay of America for much longer than either of you but, now we are in runaway social entropy. The real Idiocracy won't be fun at all to live in at all!
InfiniteMushroom 11 months ago
Sometimes I think I can come up with a great argument for Socialism and human equality, and then . . . I remember this movie . . . or take a walk aound wal-mart and take a close look at the employees. And suddenly . . . I can't think of any reason why socialism would work, not because socialism is a bad idea in and of itself, but because people are so goddamn dumb.
carlmelanson1 1 year ago
I take issue with your review on the following points. You seemed to be more concerned with who would be offended by this film or put off by certain aspects of it. The problem with modifying this particular film to your specs would drastically diminish the entire message and point of this film. The stupid people had to be over the top and the picture had to be bleak in order for Judge to make the point he was trying to make. (to be continued)
BognarRegis 1 year ago
You completely missed the point. The movie's message is reinforced by your review.
miahisman 1 year ago
listen..... you describe this movie as a 'clever movie' it is FAR MORE THAN THAT
you just MISSED THE POINT.... it is like you almost ARE part of the entire concept of the creation of it....

The film is scarily close to life as it's become.
annikee59 1 year ago
I view this film also partially as a popular science film, as the narrator realizes that "evolution" doesn't necessarily mean changing into what we think of as better.

@Senator1 I didn't really see a message , but dont go mouthing off about the reviewer when its what he saw, everyone see's a different message
Tinymclean 1 year ago
The reviewer had absolutely the wrong ideas about this movie. This is about the direction we are headed as a people, especially in the US. It's the McDonalidization and Incorporation of everything in our lives. We are being dumbed down to sheep, and that's exactly what the people in power want.
Senator1 1 year ago
Absolutely loved this movie, one of my all-time favorites.
It's criminally under-appreciated and just plain unknown by too many people, I really hate how little support/advertising it got, the big corporate funders of the movie tried their best to make sure nobody saw it or even heard about it b/c of its really negative view of corporate bullshit.

i didn't like this movie the first time i saw it. i thought the acting sucked. since then i have seen it roughly 50 times and it is one of my favorite movies of all time. as with office space, you get so much more out of it the 3rd or 4th time seeing it. it's hysterical. still, not nearly enough was representational of population growth, overcrowding, or advances in technology. where we we 100 years ago? shouldn't we be much farther along 500 years from now?
