...love it... One of the many reasons why i want the 5d even when it will get replaced with yet another camera that takes even cleaner pictures... Just out of curiosity what camera did you use to shoot the helicopter itself?
I also used 5d2 with tripod for heli aerial shooting, but I found that there was lots of shaking problems that come from 5d2 structure. I have make a stabilization in FCP or AE it cannot fix.(It seems the image has distorted)
My friend said this is the camera lens structure problem.
i just discovered this video. could you please send me some tech. data on this rc helicopter. i am looking forward to do something similar and i believe that this model would be perfect for me.
cool stuff bro! :) ..we do similar stuff too, but haven't tried yet our new fish-eye lens. check "AeroEye Asia" here in youtube :) we're the leading aerial photography/videography services here in the philippines :) cheers! xD
Great video, The 5dmk2 video's really great, The video's brillantt on landscapes/skies & low light! Just wondering did you get any frame skipping on the faster shots/pans on playback ? I've noticed this on shooting fast moving objects, not every time though....
This is ridiculously cool, probably the smartest use of the 5D yet.
Like a more fish-eyed version of The Shining intro., you need to get on this and do something that makes people cry with joy. 100% respect for this mate
thats awsome dude, its like the vincent laforet fish eye he does over manhatten just without the really expensive helo ride, do wonders with this idea
Being a 5DM2 user myself, I'm impressed to see what great lengths you've taken to improve your shots. I don't think I have the guts to fly my cam up so high... or OVER water!
Nonetheless, you get great shots with the fisheye, though parts of it are a tad dizzying :) Thanks for sharing your experience. Time for me to go to flight school now!
I have a 30 series nitro heli, and I think i'm gonna go brushless dc, specially after seeing this! Looks like a great build you did there. Definitely a fantastic camera. Excellent vid!
Great stuff. What range does the remote control for the chopper have? Could you ascend to 500m or so for high up shots? I would like to see such a camera used by someone in an ultralight or para glider as well...
Very steady camera platform. Less shake than on a full sized helicopter! I also like your functional design and gimbal arrangement. Reminds me a bit of a dragon fly.

Also what's your precedure of editing? When I film ( even quite steady) I have so much skew/wobble etc.... looks like a cheap mobilephone camera sometimes...
Anyway what format did you render it to and in what software did you edit? I use Vegas pro... when I edit sometimes the skew effect becomes amazingly visible...
On the cam even when I shake it's not visible really, just at the pc...
@aerialpan Easy said haha! Still that skew effect is... ugh causing me headaches. Been flying RC heli's now... would love to have one where I can mount my 5D and 15mm fishey haha :D
I used final cut pro using the apple Pro Res Codec and then used H.264 to compress it for web. I prefer to transcode to Prores since it is easier to work with then the native H.264 files the 5dmk2 creates.
I fucking hate that lens.

That's an expensive camera to be flying around in an expensive helicopter. How pissed off would you be if you crashed it?

Track is Moby "flying foxes"
No special tricks in editing, just have to make sure the helicopter is running with zero vibration and fly as smooth as you can!
