You can't have the best settings for everyone. It largely depends on computer hardware. One person can run it at all max with a $1500 build, while another can barely run it at medium.

You will have good graphics, not the best... the most intensive part to FSX is the processor... you need a lot of crunching of numbers to get good scenery drawn 100 times per second (50 fps - some things need to be drawn twice)... if you could get a Four-core processor at about 4.0ghz, you will run amazingly.

Surprisingly, RAM is less needed than you'd think (although 4/6/8GB should suffice even when lots of add-ons).

Also my fsx runs well above 20fps-40fps but when I use fraps it goes down to 8fps.

@BranmasterG you cant help that buddy, Unless you have a very very powerfull PC once you switch fraps, in almost every pc, well all pcs that ive seen so far it takes fps! you cant help it :( only when you have a powerfull pc is when you dont really notice the diffrence!

no, you CAN'T have 30 to 60 frames on every situation. Add a decent payware airliner (like all serious simmer does), REX, and some nice airport, and your frame will drop into the teens. noob

The average airport in fsx has about 20+ aircraft on full settings

Along with hundreds of road traffic possibly 20+ boats and ferries on water and couple cargo ships

That's Alot of AI Traffic Your hardware has to process so for those who are saying Setting traffic to zero is not a good thing, Your wrong unless your computer runs on a magneto plasma turbine or something

SP2 DX10... by far in some cases... EX: 30 to 80 fps

I switched back to SP2 and DX10... I think it is worth it! But you will have to pay $20 to buy Addon Converter X, if you want basically any addon textures to show up with the DX10 preview... :( It works well though... {BTW: SP2 without the DX10 preview does not cause flashes, so you can turn it on and off!}

Well, I tried DX10. I run my fs at the same settings as yours, except in scenery i have the water at 2x low and medium special effects detail. Sp2 no DX10 I was gettin 20+, with some drops in to the teens. I turned on the DX10 preview and I was getting 15-25. Any ideas? (also, so far the only addons I have are carenado, full dx10 support)

I used to use it but I don't anymore for two reasons:

1- I can only fly with my friends on SP1.

2- I get flashing runways and taxiways with DX10.

There is a bug in the frame rate lock in FSX, which if your FPS is lower than your locked frame, you will lose frames if you limit them, by no matter how much. It's not a big problem if your frames are above say 20, but can be a significant issue if they are lower. FS2004 didn't have this problem.
