  • 日本語は凄いです! My Kanji is getting better.. well no, but my memorizing is getting better!

  • err... WHAT? ==

  • Great tools! Thank you so much!

  • How do you type in japanese?!

  • @SuperKittenForce

Do a YT or google search. I have a Mac so it's easy because they set it up for me her in Japan.

  • @Gimmeaflakeman Wow, fast reply! Thanks. Windows sucks :(

  • @SuperKittenForce

You can type in japanese (hiragana/katakana) changing your pc's language configuration.

  • @SuperKittenForce

For Windows, you need to install a Japanese language pack (included with Windows) For details, you can look for help in Windows, but it's basically in the Control panel under languages. Once that's done, you can switch between keyboards using special key combinations. After that, you just start typing the Japanese words and to get kanji, you can press the spacebar which causes the input to cycle through the possible different kanjis that are possible.

  • THanks so much God ALMIGHTY WILL DEFINITELY REWARD YOU IN THIS LIFE AND IN THE HEREAFTER

  • Thanks so much for making this video SENSEI!!! <3

  • Omjesus. That works amazingly well.

    Thank you so much~!!

  • Thank you

    it helps a lot.

  • theres also a furigana inserter app for mozilla firefox. you can find the download at mozilla's main site. it loads entire webpages with furigana .might take awhile to load sometimes but its an alternative to furiganizer. just find what works for u.

  • ありがとうございました!私は日本語が大好きです、でも、私は英語の先生になりたいです。 I'm 17 years old and still need college but it's been my dream since I was little... I WILL pursue it no matter what obstacles are put in my way.

  • Wow Victor, Thanks for this lesson. Time to go native, huh.

  • thank you so much...this really helped me a lot ^.^

  • thanx man, I love u <3 ;D

  • Try the Kanji Wordsearch iPhone app! Fun, and it tracks your progress.

  • Okay so I can use all these web pages without downloading the program?

  • You Rule Dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thank you very much, very useful!!!!!!

    有難う御座います。

  • Mac.....Nice. thanks for the links..

  • This is very, very useful for people learning Kanji like myself. If I could give thumbs up over and over, I would.

  • My newest video is about Rikaichan, after posting it, rraassll told me you made this video! Cool! Thank you for the links!

  • 3:22 - Kare wa baka desu. HAHA. Kanji is hard. Hiragana and Katakana are super EASY. I learned them in just 7-days! Anyone that struggles with basic Hira-kata... well... omae tachi wa cho baka baka baka baka baka baka baka desu ne .... lol!

  • It doesn't work. I downloaded, but there's no option to instal it!!!.

  • I'm so happy to discover this video!!!.

  • Kanji never fails to crush my motivation.

This should help out a good deal though, ありがとう。

  • @IIDefect This video is the only one I've seen that manages to present Kanji in a sensible way, all other teachers seem to try to make it as complicated as possible.

Do not dwell on individual Kanji, remember that a Kanji compound represents one full word, so just remember a compound as the word.

  • @Laurelindo

Thanks for the comment. Didn't really think of it as different.

  • One of the best resource vids i have ever seen. I have Hiragana down pat and am about 1/2 way done learning katakana. Kanji will be a wild ride so i am greatful for this video.

  • This guy just has the voice of a teacher/professor, ya know? Kinda Jeff Goldblum-esque.

  • Just a warning to people.

I tried out the kanji dictionary from polarcloud as suggested and less than an hour afterward I have been hit by some serious virus trouble. I can't update any of my antivirus even in safemode(with networking) and suffering other internet related trouble. Having a really tough time with it.

I'm not saying for sure that the firefox addon is the cause but it's the only thing i downloaded around that time.

  • ありがとう!

This will be very useful. :D

    And yeah I subbed.

  • Arigatou

  • now there is rikaikun for google crome its cool

  • Thanks for the clip. What software can I get that will help my computer to write Gyosho and Sosho? Thank

  • Wow! Sugoi desuyo! Hontou ni kansha shiteimasu! Benri dashi, yoku ni tachimasu!! By the way... do you by any chance speak Spanish?

  • doesnt work

  • "Furigana Injector"

...That sounds like a painful procedure XD

  • thanks

  • Victor, this is a site where people can practice Hiragana&katakana.

google it and search on realkana. Not for you obviously, but for people that could use practicing.

  • @tophblindbender ... I ment google it by searching on realkana ;]

  • One of the interesting tools that I was learning about over on Jappleng's Dev blog is a feature that looks similar to Rikai-chan. It seems like their system will be a lot more advanced but limited to their site only unfortunately. It's nice to see all of these free tools available for us to use and learn from!

And thanks for the kanji stroke site!

  • really great tools.. thanks I'm just starting Japanese and these will help immensely.

  • wow this is so excellent! i just subscribed and i'm already learning so many new things. thanks for sharing your knowledge and advice!

  • Thanks for subbing.

  • honto ni arigatou gozaimasu,,,,

  • That is sooooo great! This is going to make a huge difference for me! Thank you so much for uploading the video!

  • nice username lmao

  • りかいちゃんありがとう。めちゃあすごいやねん!it helps me with learning kanji alot, and with reading my friends messages.

  • what an awesome and useful software!

  • Hummm, it´s excelent...and now together learn nihongo! and some kanjis!!!

  • Omg this is so cool!!!! どうもありがとう"--いますDoumo arigatou gozaimasu....XD

  • With rikachan, you can practially read Japanese once you know basic grammer. The downside is if you have it you're inclined to stop memorizing kanji (or pronounciation) by handwriting them over and over.

  • awesome! I think I'll try this out! arigatou!!!!

  • does stroke order really matter?

  • Depends who you talk to.

I would say it's good to get into the habit of writing them correctly.

  • its weird because i wrote all of the hiragana and katakana without following the stroke order. is writing them correctly has something to do with memorization?

  • i think it's the way the writing flows.

  • I wonder how u wrote katakana without stroke order and still know that word? I mean, sometimes I mistake shi ( シ ) with tsu (ツ)...

  • easy really. look at the shi. it has a less slope than tsu. Also, I have a PS3 and I convert the english text to Japanese text. Therefore, continuous exposure to Japanese text will make you read things clearly. At first I had a hard time, but give it a few days and you'll get it easily. Just pick up a Japanese newspaper or go to wikipedia in japanese and read the words that you can read. Even faster if you can read Japanese hiragana and katakana and know a few japanese words.

  • Oh thanks. 'cuz my teacher is a Japanese and he writes both of the words the same, just different order

  • Shi katakana can be seen like a shi from hiragana just draw a line downwards and you have a shi. Same for tsu, just draw a line horizontally and you'll see a tsu

  • No it has nothing to do with memorizing, it is good because of understanding, japanese handwiriting can be very hard to understand sometimes.

  • Interesting comment. I once knew a girl that knew lots of facts and did very well on tests. But she was an idiot. I don't think language is an exact comparison, but you have to admit you can get by by just memorizing all the kanji. I'll agree with you that actually understanding meaning and how to write them is important, but I don't agree with you that memorizing has NOTHING to do with it.

Ah, maybe it's just semantics. But in the end you must remember how to say something and what it means.

  • I was talking about the stroke order. Understanding the stroke order doesnt make it easier to memorize the kanji, but you will be able to understand what you wrote, the katakana for shi and tsu is a good example.

  • But as you just said meaning is extremely important, look at the word gairaigo used for words that have foreign origin, gai - means foreign just like in the word gaijin or gaikokujin and go - writen with the kanji go that you find on the word nihongo means origin. so you can get a small idea on the word formation process.

  • Oh, right. Stroke order is logical though. So if you understand stroke order it helps. I'm sure there is a physical memory involved -- or rather you can create a physical memory by repetitively writing each kanji.

  • As for 外来語 and 外国人 not sure we are talking about the same thing or that I disagree with you. Yeah... I don't see your point.

  • @Gimmeaflakeman You can also add Rikaikun, a Rikaichan port for Google Chrome users, to the list. Its the exact same as Rikaichan but for Google Chrome users. :)

  • @IS91Videos

Can you pm me a link?

  • @Gimmeaflakeman Sure!

  • @AgentCell writing them correctly will help u later with kanji (cause some rules do apply to kanji too)and also it makes your writing more native-like. so when a japanese person looks at your writing if u did follow the stroke order for kana he/she won't be able to tell u are gaijin right away :)

  • i jsut have one question when u went to the first kanji it said gold then something below it that said metal or something is that like another say toi spell it or anyway to use that one kanji with something else to have a diff meaning if u have trouble with my question reply and ill say it specific again as possible but plz reply

  • kanji have specific meanings -- plural. And yes which meaning and pronunciation you should use depends on the situation, and the kanji coming before or after it.

  • @ AgentCell: yes.

    the kanji look better,

the kanji are easier to memorize,

some electronic dictionaries couldn't recognize the kanji you wrote if you wrote it in the wrong stroke order

  • 麻生さんもこのソフトをインストールしていれば。。。

  • thank you very much Mr. Roboto!

  • 実に賢いソフトだな。サファリかな?

  • thanks a lot bro, this is very cool stuff

  • i've wasted 2 hours trying to figure out how to activate rikaichan and in the end i failed. ): i guess there's no helping it but to buy those books that teaches how to read kanji.

    motai nai.

  • It's a pity it's useless to personal names.

  • these r very useful thx a lot man!!!

  • ありがとうございます

  • this is extremely helpful. just what need for those crafty little kanji. cheers dude.

  • I use Rikaichan allll the time, it's so helpful! (thanks to koichi there)

Thanks for the links to the furiganizer and hiragana generator! Before I was using the "Phonetic guide" in Microsoft word for furigana, but it didn't work as well as i'd like (I couldn't furiganize my entire speech/dialog at once...) , Furiganizer does it the way it should! and you can print directly from the site :)

  • very useful vid, i knew about rikaichan but didn´t know about the others. i´m going to check then out now

  • AwooOOoo.. Awesome add ons and sites :D Thanks so much for sharing them!

  • wow rikai has helped SO much, thank you for introducing all of us to this awesome tool.

  • Awesome, Thanks for these links Vic, they are going to help a bunch

    ありがとうございます

  • Thanks cool info man. Much love.

  • oook everything is fixed!

I ended up doing a deep mozilla cleaning, and then reinstalled it and it worked, and then installed rikaichan with its 2 complements and they work!! i didnt install the furigana injector tho, cause im afraid everything would crash again, but thanks for the links!

  • If you google "Tangorin" I find the site very useful as a Japanese English Dictionary. You can enter Kana, Kanji, Romaji and English. It'll give you the meanings, reading, & similar words. It even tells you if the word is normal written in Kana rather then Kanji in some cases. (It does not give you Romaji so you need to know Katakana and Hiragana.) - Thanks for the links! Hard to find good stuff like this. :)

  • btw y uninstalled and reinstalled firefox about 7 times, and now i dont even get the error notice , i get nothing i just doesnt work .-. so eh yeah weird haha

  • Don't forget to mention perapera kun or the furigana injector :)

  • Nice. Thanks for the links! The rikaichan is totally useful, though Yamasa could definitely expand its entries.

  • thanks a lot victor! this is really cool to learn some kanji with!

  • Super useful :)

  • おお、これいいね!

    日本語を勉強してる息子に紹介します。ありがとう。

  • :)!

  • Great! Tanks! =D

  • *update*

    *back in panic mode*

i unistalled FF, then reinstalled it and the error is still there O_O.

  • *is currently using explorer*

i just noticed i completely misspelled dictionary hahaha, oh well i was panicking what can i say!? haha well ok i wont sue you but ull have to give me maggie =D haha.win win situation no?

its weiird i THINK it happened with the furigana injector, im oing to do everything over one by one (i installed the last ones at once) and if somethings happens again, ill let u know so u can warn innocent souls

  • something weiiird happened, i installed the dictionare, then the names dictionaire and the furigana injector , then closed it and tried to open it again so it would activate and now my firefox isnt working!? it says theres and error blah blah and doesnt even start what to do D:

  • Damn! Never heard there were problems with it. I guess reinstall from ZERO and forget the rikaichan. I have a mac and had not trouble at all. Sorry! Don't sue me!

  • very helpful tools,

    and great vid as usual!

  • Good vid! There's also an app to firefox called kanji-lish that replaces the first letter of a word and places the kanji there instead.

Btw, how many classes will you have a week on edufire, and at what times? I'm gmt+1, hence my question. Keep on keeping on.

  • awesome! Wicked! It's working!

  • Thanks Victor, that is Amazingly useful!

It's great to hear that you use Firefox too ^_^

I have a plugin called Kanji-ish that I still have to use =P

  • The alternative way would be to study some Mandarin Chinese first (Hanzi and Kanji happen to overlap for the most part). It makes learning Japanese and Korean much more easier.

    学习汉语(中文)很有用!

  • Interesting, I've got Mandarin next on my list but I thought it primarily used the simplified characters - and kanji are, as you know, derived from the traditional. Wasn't sure how much overlap there would be.

Korean is also surprising, I thought the kanji/hanzi had been phased out.

Well, at least it's nice to know that the fruits of the kanji studies can be partly reused in another language!

  • just learn hiragana, it only took me about 1 hour to learn it with a set of flashcards that i made. you have to shuffle them up, then set the ones aside that you get right...then keep going through it. shuffle them!

  • It's a bonus. Romaji will not help with pronunciation. Don't mean to sound preachy but romaji is probably the worst habit you can keep. Been there; done that!

Even taking it slow, hiragana should only take a few days to learn and then the pronunciation will make sense and the grammar is much easier.

  • It keeps telling me that Rikaichan is not compatible with Firefox 3.11 ... Does anybody know what to do to fix this???

  • Rikaichan 1.05 and Firefox 3.0.11 on Windows (Vista) working perfectly okay here.

Perhaps the problem is with another add-on clashing?

  • It could be... I just don't understand why it won't install.... I want Rikaichan to woooork!!!

  • are you saying that it wont install per se or that after you install it it wont work? cause remember you have to activate it when you want to use it

  • It just kept saying that it's not compatible and to restart FF to install/uninstall it... But I got it! I uninstalled FF and reinstalled it from scratch. Then immediatelly i installed Rikaichan and it works! Thanks for the help though! ^^

  • Glad it's working ok. I didn't want to have to lie and tell you that it's crap and not to worry about it! :o)

  • yeah the same happened to me then, i had to delete everything that had any trace of FF and then it worked

  • Beats the hell outa babelfish, great program...yeah very cool, thanks man : )

  • Thanks for the info V this will be VERY helpful!

  • Awesome Victor, thank you!

  • ahh sweet i just realised what Furiganizing means.

I saw Hiragana as Subtitles ( or UP-Titles ) on Dificult Kanji and it came in my head that they might be used for translating the Kanji.

    As for the Rikaichan Tool.

I'm gonna find it very Useful but, i'm still around halfway learning Hiragana. And i havent started on Katakatana Yet, so i need to work more.

Please dont use your Hentai whip to spank me :(

  • I don't like rikaichan. :P Sometimes it acts really silly.

    JWPCE <3

What's with the third 本? Looks weird.

  • That is so cool! Thanks a lot Victor!

    ありがとう!

  • Yeah I found Rikai-chan ages ago, so good to use when your learning the language, or even if you aren't and simply know Japanese sentence structures.

  • Thanks soooooooo much!! THese will help me a ton!

  • Fantastic resources, thank you so much!

  • Cool video, looks like it'll be pretty helpful, thanks.

  • And that's its why I love firexox, there is so many things to it :)

  • Had the first ones from koichi's vid some time ago, but thanks a lot for the new ones :D

  • this is exactly what i neeed

  • The word for luck is also the word for poo in china.

Chinese people put little gold poo keychains on their cell phones for good luck.

  • thanks. :D

    finally a kanji lesson.

  • you have one of those crazy side docks

  • Thanks!

  • Yeah I have peraperakun which is the same thing. It works great.

  • Too bad it's only for Firefox & Thunderbird.

    Zannen....

  • wow...

That's a pretty badass piece of software.

  • That was pretty cool XD

  • Great! Thanks for the tools. I've been trying to find ways to attempt to absorb a bit of kanji, osmosis style. This is a good way to familiarize with it.

  • awesome ^^

  • Apple bastard.

  • LOL!

  • Thank you so much!! This is awesome. I've been using Moji addon to read kanji but this is easier.

  • This is cool. I was wondering is there a specific order to key stocks when ones write Japanese. I assume there will be. Congee... my fav with mo yu! Ha! Kind regards,

  • so cool! thanks

  • Ah, I didn't know about those last two - very nice. They'll make sentence mining much easier. 本当にありがとう。

  • sugoi

  • 0 views=P isnt that impossible, when i can see it, it should at least be 1, right=P?

  • YT is screwy that way.

  • well since it keeps track of views and not viewers it is possible....plus it has delay...

    anyways arigatou for the info....

  • Awesome.
