I remember watching my Dad beat this entire game, as well as all of Super Contra, without losing a single life. Im fifteen now, and i still havent even been able to get to the last level! lol

biggest let down ending ever for one of the hardest games ever. even the text is dismissive to your efforts "Consider yourself a hero [if it makes you feel better about yourself ]"

Ah yes,good times...my friends and I used to have Contra "point wars" where one guy would just collect every weapon he could, even if the other played got killed. The trick was to jump off the screen and kill your friend! All was fair in love and points!
