Spectacular playing. I love the cover too. It probably is not intentional but he is holding up five fingers - as if to say this is my 5th piano concerto : ) Very darling!
Although my personal favorite interpretation is the Karajan/Weissenberg, this has a charm that the BPO, in all its aesthetic splendour, seems to have been made to sacrifice for a lacquered sort of sonic perfection.
This is tremendously good. As I write this on July 8, 2009, there are only "590 views" shown by the counter tally here. Surprising - and surely there will be many more, soon. Another great performance of Concerto 5, Movement 3 is by the Czech Orchestra with pianist Russell Sherman, which I just heard on FM Classical radio moments ago (prompting my visit to YouTube to search for it). This piece also inspired the theme for BBC's 1995 Pride and Prejudice miniseries, a favorite.
lol Beethoven's all waving. He's like, "What's goin' on, Klaus?"

Tragic isn't it? 590 views in about 8 months is about 1 view every 4 days? Pffftt

What performance can be better than THIS?
And I didn't even hear of Steven Lubin before.
And, the period instruments seem to be quite a good thing too!
