It seemed to me that during my travels to Indonesia, the population was quite mild mannered, and in some parts praciting Hindu. There didn't seem to be a presence of extremism there, and the government seems to be tackeling this problem where it can. On the other hand, they have the largest population of Muslims in the world and lots of space to hide extremism of necessary. Indonesia should be watched very closely in the future.

Muslims in Indonesia are very different from what one experiences in Arabic countries. Some even continue celebrating hindu rituals as part of their tradition. Furthermore, I believe the West is massively underestimating Indonesia's role: it is the largest muslim country and extremely tolerant in religions in my opinion. Indonesia should be supported to become the Turkey of Asia in a sense that a modern prospering state is combined with moderate religious views.
