Congratulations on getting a bunny! Most rabbit people use dog/cat clippers, but I have seen veterinarians use human toenail clippers on rabbit nails. Yes, I advise you to wash them first with hot water and soap (like an antibacterial liquid hand soap). Use an old toothbrush to scrub them, rinse really well. Don't obsess over it, just give 'em a good cleaning. Check the nails every 4 to 6 weeks until you know how fast your rabbit's nails grow. :)
hi i have a question um can u use a reguler nail clipper for humans if u can shuold u wash them first and with what or if you cant why not?......i got my dwarf (lop) novemper 7 2010 so how times a year should u cut your bunnies nails?
I have a question, when I clip by bunnies nails she first of all she gets scared and twitches and then I get scared and jump sometimes. Nothing bad has ever happend but I'm scared to cut her nails now. What is the best way to hold your bunny while trimmimng the nails so the bunny dosen't twitch and scare me anymore?
Well I cant idk cuz it was never taken for 3 years, but we trimmed the nais with a clipper and we put oxygen and it stopped the bleeding and she seems fine now its just still like twisted on top of the other nail and one other question...I know that if u pick up a rabbit and it kicks hard it could break or fracture something but sometimes when she walks her legs get like a spasm whe she walks could i be the really long nails that polk her when she walks.
hi my rabbit was given as a gift from a family who had her for 3 years and they never cut her nails. So now there like an inch, inch and a half and on of them twisted nd its bleeding we put oxygen on it and trimmed it with a regular nail clipper cuz we dont have anything also we dont have a small carrier cage so we couldnt take him to the vet. what do i do????
Your rabbit needs to see a vet because the nail is in danger of becoming infected and may need to be removed. Put an old towel in the bottom of the box that has a lid, and a handful of hay along with a water bottle. This will keep the rabbit safely contained for the vet visit. You can put some triple antibiotic ointment (like Neosporin) on the bleeding nail, but still a vet visit is needed.
hi my bunny has a serious problem at his paws nose and ears....he has a fungus and it smells like an athletes foot...i dont know what to use for them to cure that fungus...i just give him a bath atleast once a weeks just to smell clean....
I strongly urge you to take your rabbit to a veterinarian who has a lot of experience with rabbits. I know this isn't what you want me to say, but to say anything else would be extremely irresponsible. Your rabbit NEEDS to be seen by a vet ASAP! The sooner the better and the cheaper! Your rabbit can't take himself to the doctor, you have to take him.
my bunny is all black, even his nails. He is a 9 week old lionhead. His paws & nails are small. His nails are very sharp. Because his nails are so black it is difficult to see where the vein ends. Any suggestions?
Hi this is the R.A.F.L team (rabbits are for life) and we are pleased to see that there is finally a video showing what people have to use and how to clip their rabbits claws.
we thank you for posting this video and hope for more soon! thanks again.
You may need to learn how to burrito your bunny so she'll remain still enough to let you do a nail trim. sirius51l has a video on how to do this. I've had to burrito rabbits, guinea pigs and cats to get nail trims done.

Shine a flashlight under the nail, then you should be able to see.

Do you have a rabbit rescue nearby? If they have an adoption event, or participate in a pet expo, they may offer nail trims for a small donation.
