  • Imac g4 can run windows, but only virtual. Like virtualbox or virtual boot camp.

  • did he download windows for mac

  • The G4 iMac was the best design Apple ever did. and I have the 27 inch i3 imac to compare it to. For one, you could pivot this ones base so it is easier to get to the ports on the back. The new iMac is terrible in that respect, ergonomics are horrible. Also they put the SD card slot right next to the disk drive slot, I have more then once put the SD card inside the CD drive on accident hand had to fish it out with a pair of tweezers.

  • that was my first ever mac of any type and i loved it! it was a good design and everything it would be great if they reintroduced it into apple line

  • Itzmatt - this is no longer how I would approach this mod. Please see my new videos. I believe this is a much better way to do this mod. For a detailed walkthrough of how to do it - see my blog. Dremel Junkie. Just google it. The song was the song from the original iPhone commercial.

  • i want one of these. how can you make one? just like building a computer in an odd case? and how do you replace the screen? oh and btw, what were the songs you used?

  • eeewww why windows?

  • @familyguy9877 I had windows running on this computer so it was obvious that it wasnt the same internal components. Power PCs can not run Windows - part of this mod is the ability to run the monitor with "more modern hardware". I have a newer version (look in video responses) that I'm much happier with. And its hooked up to a mac mini and therefore running snow leopard.

  • @familyguy9877 i agree. why windows? couldn't you hacintoh the computer to make it run mac? or use parts that Snow Leopard supports? or at least recode drivers so they are compatible with mac...

  • how does it have windows

  • Honestly, this is the coolest old mac mod i have seen yet!

  • @RatedTForTravis honest ?

  • @electronicchronic Dictionary?

  • @RatedTForTravis - Thanks so much. I have an improved version without any "shelf on the back" - it uses an Apple Cinema Display. You can check it out on my blog or view my new videos. Thanks for watching

  • Erh gross its running windows

  • awesome except for the fact of running windows LOL. Windows 7 is okay but love my Snow Leopard

  • Please check out my new mod, I have eliminated the shelf on the back and have it running Snow Leopard via a Mac Mini

  • How much would you sell one for? Is it an all In one computer?

  • I have completed the 17" mod with touch screen. Please see my blog for details. I will be posting a video shortly

  • I am currently working on a 17" version of this mod. It will feature a resistive touch screen and all wires will go through the neck (no shelf on back). Please follow along on my blog if you're interested in instructions. - Dremel Junkie

  • HOw did you hook up an external desktop to the G4? Can I do this with a mac mini?

  • It hooks up through DVI, so you can hook up any computer to it.

  • @DeanGuitarsOwn It is possible but you'll have to change the monitor inside with a VGA/DVI display with an external power supply.

  • @TheAnimeLover569 that wouldnt be a hackintosh. hackintosh would be going from pc to mac, not the other way around

  • how the hll is whwindows 7 on a ppc

  • Oh okay, I wouldn't ever install winblows on my old iMac.

    I wish apple would remake it with an intel chip, an aluminum casing, more RAM and Hard drive space. etc. (;

  • Me too. I love the design of this machine. The problem is that flash 10 does not play well with powerpc, making internet video very choppy. I've heard 10.1 makes some improvements, but flash 10 dropped support for powerpc G3's, I'm sure in future versions G4's will be the next to be dropped. Apple itself has dropped support for all PowerPCs from snow leopard.

My goal is to find a way to keep using the design of the iMac G4 in some way.

  • I still use my G4 every day. Sadly I'm working towards buying an aluminum iMac.

Someone needs to start a petition to apple to remake the G4. :\

  • Can you put up a list of all the hardware you used. I think it very cool. I have the same IMac and would like to do the same.

  • Sure, The Part List

Broken 20 inch iMac G4, LG L204WT Monitor, 20.1 inch Surface Acoustic Wave Touchscreen, SATA to USB 2.0 Adapter, LiteOn, 4X Blu-ray internal drive, Dremel

Keep in mind the wires do not go through the neck, they come from a shelf thatI built on the back of the lcd. I have recently changed this mod. I have wired all the monitor connections through the neck except the touch screen which I hope to do in the future. You can check it out at on my blog

  • how did you get an x86 cpu in there and what is the clock speed

  • nice but why is it windows?????

  • It is actually connected to a dual booting Windows 7 / Hackintosh, but I'm using Windows 7 to show that it is no longer a G4 as Windows does not run on PowerPC architecture.

  • Windows 7 comes with touch screen software. And supports multi touch I think.

  • @xtreeeeemecoke it bootcamp or dual booting no point of it just to buy a mac AND BOOT WINDOWS ON IT

  • yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • very nice...
