Sweet memories of biking and camping the summer of 1980 riding the 750 Honda with the breeze in my hair enjoying the view of Buttle Lake on Vancouver Island with this song blasting - Such freedom! This one really takes me there ! Thank God for the music of our lives.
I am a black guy from the inner-city of Detroit. I never even heard of Billy Joel until some guy that I work with was playing the Stranger album, now I am completely fascinated by this guy. He is seriously a GENIUS!!!
Billy Joel has always put out so many beautiful songs. He is the Piano Man! :-) I have always loved this song, the beautiful enchanting beginning, the rocking middle and the slow smooth ending. This song takes me back to days of my youth hanging out at the river with my friends and this story in this song reminds me of those teen nights I shared back then with so many super awesome songs from that time playing while we all laughed and dreamed the night away! What a time that was then! I miss it!
@thepinkpopcornqueen Hi Amy! :-) I couldnt agree with you more on your comment. I always felt like I could be right in his story line of this song. Billy is that good, you are right! Totally awesome comment Amy! :-)
@thecarebearhideaway Thank you Laney!! But I have been humbled once again by your most sincere writing... Damn girl... you know how to put feelings into words. Go on with your bad self!! :D
@McBobthestickfigure That's what I always thought it sounded like, too. Funny that Billy Joel is American, but often it's British people who tend to stick r's between vowels.
This song is about every highschool from Greenport to Far Rockaway. Ask any Long Islander born between 1946 and yesterday and he'll/she'll tell you the same. Btw, the restaurant in question was your basic Long Island Italian place, Christiano's in Syosset. Their pasta was ok (had the manicotti & red sauce) and their wine was actually really good (chianti classico). Salut.
@BlackDeath17123 If you could post the song "scenes from an italian restaurant" I would greatly appreciate it...I can't seem to find it anywhere on youtube and its my favorite song by him!
I remember when I first heard this song. Up to 4:28 I thought it was fantastic. After that solo, this was something that would make Beethoven and John Lennon's child blush.
@mike4asianwoman haha thanks. I uploaded the mp3 file from my itunes to an AAC or w/e to make it compatible with windows movie maker. I'm guessing the good quality is from the cd i got it from, which is from the library. All of my songs are like this so tell me if you have any requests.
@jeffconmon Um... No. New York girls are not like that. Watch Jerseylicious. All from Jersey, just like the girls from Jersey Shore. DO NOT CRAP ON NEW YORK!
Learned the words to this song dating a Jersey girl over 20 years ago. Should of known for big hair jersey girls this road map is a r equirment. Marry, get the money and the check for the kids, then you've had it already. Great song, glad I'm not from Jersey where this bimbo sterotype is valid. Look at Jersey shore and plug them in the song lol
@meragan12487 Brenda and Eddy were high school sweethearts in Joel's class. He is then telling the story of what happened to them. 5:30 "Oh and that's all I heard about Brenda and Eddie, Can't tell you more 'cause I've told you already" This IS what happened.
I am certain that this is the most viewed Scenes From an Italian Restaurant video on youtube. I am proud to say that i posted this video. In November, i will post my fav songs from Cold Spring Harbor. After all, it is the 40th anniversary of the album. You Can Make me Free, She's Got a Way, Everybody Loves you Now, Why Judy Why, You Look so good to me and Tomorrow is Today. Six songs are in production.
Ah man , I'm craving Speghetti in a dimly lit italian restaurant. With wine on the table , some garlic rolls , candlelight , and to top it off! Spumoni! Great vacation memories! Thanks for the music , Billy! ;)
Damn Billy Joel did make it back in 1972 he asked me do you think I got what it takes to get to the top about the same time his music was playing on the Radio from there it was up
I had The Stranger on 8track when I was in my early teens. I would just let it play for hours and hours and every time this song came on I would have to stop what I was doing and listen
This song is around 30 years old, right? Has anybody got sick of hearing it yet? I listen to 'music' that is made today, like it for 1 month, then hate it. This stuff lasts forever.
@RockNRolla1996 alright, i will start working on a video, i'll put my favs from cold spring up. I'm thinking about uploading them in November, 40th anniversary of album. if that is cool with you.
Everytime I hear "I'll meet you anytime you want in our italian restaurant." a smile fills my face. I don't really know why but that one part just makes me happy. And then I say to myself "Okay, Bill, why not right now?"
@RoyFive If I remember correctly from an old Billy Joel interview I read or watched, this song stems from what he originally wrote as "The Ballad of Brenda and Eddie" but it wasn't enough to be a stand alone song, so he wrote this.
I'm sure I'd get debated on this, but comparisons could be made with A Day In The Life, where neither John's piece nor Paul's would have worked by itself.
Joel's Voice has always been great as is his keyboard playing. Doug Stegmeyer pushed the envelope with his bass as did Liberty DeVito slaying his drum skins alive. But favourite parts are Billy Joel's Reed and Flute player - Richie Canata. An amazing tone shown to its fullness in this song. Thanks to all of you
@Mrdianalynn this was on the stranger. he is quoting the famous movie "step brothers." in it a band, uptown girl, is southern california's premier joel music band or w/e plays strictly 80's joel.
