You can tell she wants to move when she starts to sing...she is sitting, she stands, she sits back down, puts her hands in her pockets. Natalie is a gift that just keeps giving and giving.....a true artist in an age with so few. The beauty and the voice and that smile....a gift for us all.
@rotcbrad No, I think is a beatiful song, both music and words... I was only surprized by this sentence and asking for an explaination: as you see, I don't know english very well. I'm italian, oops.
Info about the unique historic space where she is singing is found on the Shaker Heritage Society website. Natalie was so gracious and this song is just perfect for the 1848 Shaker Meeting House! The guitarists are Eric Dellapenna and Gabe Gordon BTW.
Do not miss Natalie in concert 2010! I feel privilaged to have attended the Birmingham (UK) concert and another many years ago. Natalies voice has a rare quality that shines when live. I cried.
I discovered this wonderful singer a few weeks ago in a taxi... The driver was listening to a beatiful cd, I really loved it and I asked him the name of the singer... so thak you very much, Mr Cab Driver!! =)
@holo9 I still remember where I was the first time I heard NM. You are in for a real treat! She is simply the best. Great music and thought provoking lyrics. Enjoy!
Absolutely superb. I just had the chance to be at her concert. That was mind-blowing. Everybody was laughing, and everybody was crying. Very emotional. Superb :)
Natalie has done a fine job with these recordings, cannot wait to hear the whole album. Without doubt one of the best singers of our generation, her body of work (including Maniacs) is genius!
I preordered on her website a couple weeks ago . . .I don't think its in the stores yet and if you preorder I'm pretty sure it shows up before it goes on sale to the gen public.

My only complaint is that these songs weren't paired on the album. :) It's a beautiful pairing! Great performance in this video by everyone.

"I'll buy myself a little orphan girl"???

@viktorkruna this is a 19th century poem. I suppose one could literally buy an orphan then.

No musician beats Natalie Merchant. I was sad when she stopped recording and glad to see she inspired the world again.

What an appropriate time to have Natalie return to our hearts and ears.
Well "Guy" you are the one for me...and if no-one marries me, then bury me under the weeping willow tree...for if no one marries me....
Love it all...
