@simthebest9281 he's singing Everybody Hurts from R.E.M...and then "40." and then Psalm 116: What can I give back to God for the blessings he's poured out on me? I'll lift high the cup of salvation -- A toast to God! I'll pray in the name of God; I'll complete what I promised God I'd do, And I'll do it together with his people.
u2 history lesson: this performance inspired u2 to write, city of blinding light. i cant even imagine what it would have been like to be at this concert. i bet it was overwhelming for the band as well.
In the aftermath of 9/11, U2 takes the stage in front of a broken city. Bono sings an Irish lullaby. Suddenly, the Edge begins to play those all familiar chords that open Streets and Bono utters a small prayer. Then, as the stadium fills with light and the crowd is lifted from the ground, everybody knows that things will be alright.

A little inside info on the lyrics..."being blown by the wind"....his uncle was nicknamed "the wind" in college for his speed on the track...you take it from there
Mmmmm... I was there that night. Religious spectacle - nobody's feet touched the floor all night. Been seeing concerts since 1978 and the U2 shows right afer 9/11 rank at the top.

the reason this has such good sound quality is because it was a B-Side for the 'electrical storm' single.... so he probably filmed it there and then played the cd over the top!
This was after 9/11. The greatest show i ever saw. people were crying through the whole show. i have a great picture of Bono wrapped in the American flag.
@dhide14 Bono NEVER said that. You can google it all day long. Never. This Irish band was very supportive of America after 9-11. U2's crush on America goes back to their first visit here. Don't smear Bono just because you don't like him. Claiming an ugly lie about somebody is evil as fuck. Grow up kid.
its bee over 7 years since 9/11 and this, along with what they did during the superbowl 2002, still gives me chills. more people need to remember the disaster we came from.
@sengira You're raise a valid point - disasters happen everywhere & US media outlets tend to inflate domestic ones.
That doesn't make 9/11 any "less legitimate" of a tragedy.
A pissing contest over its relative magnitude won't solve the media problem.
Every cultural tragedy requires its own healing process - this concert (esp these 2 songs) was a particularly powerful, beautiful, and fitting catharsis to us native New Yorkers a month after the biggest disaster in most of our lives occurred.
it's a background synthesizer. it happens during the "so not fade away" part each time. if you listen carefully to the version on "unforgettable fire" album it's there too, almost like a flute or something. here it sounds kinda artificial.
U2 is a force of nature.

What did Bono say to the woman as he let her go? Was it her name? Or maybe "inshallah?"
