I think the reason we never saw Mel and David, is because the actors had no interest in doing this spin off. They had both been on the original from day one to the last episode which was 10 years, and were done with the franchise. I think Brian Green wanted to do something else beyond "David Silver". As for Tori Spelling, she only signed on for a couple of episodes, since her daughter was still a baby, and her hubby was away filming a movie.

I agree with KellyChoseBrandon. I've watched the original series and Jackie Taylor did fine as a parent. She was there for Kelly who went through alot of bad times.

@hairlesskang But I also remember Dylan telling Kelly that they were alike because they were both kids their parents forgot to pick up after school and they had to kook after themselves. So maybe Jacky was a part-time good parent...

Well, that's just it. The show took that part, and that part only, and made that the full reality of Jackie's character. We hardly even saw that Jackie because she went into rehab and cleaned up halfway through the very first season and was a great mother after that. The writers on this show, however, made her into nothing but a drunk and then killed her off. Classy bunch writing on that show, aren't they?

@KellyMarleneTaylor It's not that the writers don't know about the storyline. I remember Kelly going through a lot of trouble with her mom when she was the same age as Silver, even she mentioned what she lived with Jackie when she was a little girl. Now, plus what happened with Jackie after her divorce with Mel and what Kelly said when she took Silver to her home... even the good memories can't beat the bad ones...

Oh, and where the hell is Mel Silver, or even David? I have a feeling we will never see a follow up for this storyline--no funeral procession where at least Mel or David will be present...it just won't happen...I hate this spinoff!!!

@KellyChoseBrandon actually i just saw Mel or rather the actor who played him in season 2 of One Tree Hill, but I agree the new show destroyed the original characters and left their storylines just hanging with no conclusion.  Like not showing kelly at her mom's funeral, and having Donna come visit and say that she and David are splitting up and she's moving back and then never show her again. Then to have Kelly just all of a sudden disappear with no explanation, total crap.

Great performances by everyone, but that was just messed up what they did to Jackie. I think they overdid it with the whole "I've been a terrible mom" storyline for Jackie. Bill Taylor, Kelly's dad was a much bigger bitch than Jackie ever was! Just watch the original show and you'll see. I also think they should have given more screen time to Jackie/Erin/Kelly since they were basically killing off a very well known character. Ugh, this show!
