  • @morenob those are not buckteeth thats light from behind

  • that was creepy!

  • That's awesome M! Like to see it without skin!! J

  • looks so real, that scares me. i hope in the future they do not think putting some of this robots in the social world.

  • Wonderful job. Thanks for posting this.

  • that robot has some serious buckteeth

  • If i didnt know it wasnt real, i wouldnt believe it... it LOOKS REAL. you guys know your actively creating the end of our world right? Terminator is coming... and he is pissed!

  • Its Timmy Turner!See the buck teeth?

  • Awesome work!!!

  • Very realistic expression like humman

  • ¡Excelente trabajo!

  • AHHHHHH

  • FUCK THAT SHIT.

  • meet the future head of police !

  • What is the skin made of?

  • @TheJoker298

Made from Silicone. This particular skin is made from a product called "Dragonskin" from "smooth-on", and relaxed out with "Slacker". Then hand painted with tinted silicone.

  • So THIS is where that Defranco douchebag got his ugly-ass face?

  • @thishereguy Actually, it is a real human face, the rest of his head was edited out using green screen technology.

  • This is definitely one of the most realistic looking skins I've seen as well!

  • @SpecialFXLady real human skin?

  • O.O

Wow, that thing is gonna give me nightmares.

  • Lex Luthor

  • lol I see the "want to see under the skin?" and I think......uhhhh no I don't!! I think Skynet is closer than we think. lol

  • If some one with some money can build something realistic like this, imagine what the GOVERNMENT can make...

  • RONAAAAALDOOOOO!

  • IT'S JOHNNY CAB. lol XD

  • Looks like a cross between Kurt Angle and a Police Car.

  • thats scary but impressive!

  • very impressed!

  • ya'know its really cool, but what the heck is with the rabbit teeth?

  • @Madalyne4885

Thats not the teeth, thats the perspex stand that holds the head showing through from behind the mouth. The teeth are actually completely normal and where also cast from the models real teeth.

  • That is very impressive!

  • Absolutely excellent ... most remarkable :o]

  • That's eerily amazing...O_O

  • way cool

  • creapy

  • its dr evil

  • It scares me. =S

  • @thishereguy....No never really looked into what companies are doing the androids, just moreso for when I was doing research for this guy and seeing what the pitfalls others were making. Might be a good idea though, have always focused on movie work instead.

Thank you very much for your comments and as for how it could be advanced it is very much appreciated. Always happy to hear what would help improve my work, and totally agree with adding the sacaadic eye movements and the phonemes.

  • xDD cool LOL

  • thats creepy

  • did he not get any sleep last night? his eyes keep shutting, he should get some rest

  • Pedo smile @0:10 xD

  • looks like my old teacher Mr. Vincent haha

  • No guessing where youre from littlespiffy (rolls eyes)

mkBlaze, I keep coming back to his guy, has to be one of my favourite animatronics. Very fluid.

Can you tell me what silicone and servos these are? Motion has a really smooth falloff.

    Congrats!

  • @fromdeepitcame Cheers bud, much appreciated. I just used standard cheap hobby servos, 'Hitec' I think, had a tight budget. The motion all came from getting the skin right. The silicone is "Dragonskin" from the "smooth-on" company. nice easy 2 part mix, however I added a lot of their "slacker" product to the mix to give a nice soft realistic skin. That with a thin skin and I also altered the thickness depending on where I wanted more flex or resistance in the skin. Hope that helps..

  • @mkblaze

So all digital, on and off, programming (no analog). Works really well. Thought you must have had some nice trigonometry happening.

I think your under skull is also key, very nice design.

Thanks for the info, Ive been using PlatSil Gel 10, which is good, but not cheap. I might have to try the dragon skin.

Keep up the good work, would love to see more if you have anything recent.

    Cheers.

  • @fromdeepitcame Well its run from a controller board and laptop it thats what you mean by digital and a basic program running on the laptop with sliders that you can record position on.

I did also use it with an r/c unit at one stage but is running off the board in the video so it could cylce through movements unattended.

Funnily where you stick it to the underskull I find can also be key, otherwise its either too stiff or too floaty looking!

Always happy to answer any Q's :)

    Cheers

  • @mkblaze Thats impressive. What(alignate/Gel10) did you use to create the (life)cast before making the silicone skin? Could you please share the procedure? Also, the underskull is really well made. How did you make it? Thanks for sharing this video.

  • @fromdeepitcame that is fuck'n AWWWWWWWWWESOME! Most realistic animitronic I've ever seen. (and I'm always looking for those on the internet)

  • Inspector Gadget? O.o

  • -shudder-

  • haha japanese making an american face.. even they hate their eyes

  • @littlespiffy10, I'm Irish not Japanese..... and it's taken from an Irish face aswell not American :) Doesn't all come from Japan or the states!!!

  • @mkblaze it's scarygood.. i like it and am scared shitless :P

  • @mkblaze told his ass! lol

  • @mkblaze HAHA! How many times has this video ben called japanese or any other thing. :)

  • @littlespiffy10 haha pwnd

  • its the eyes that freak me out! they look so real! D:

  • T-2000 ?

  • I-I'm scared.

  • its weird, because technically if he is aware and you turned him on then off, you may have just begun and then ended his life in a matter of seconds. . .sad really

  • inspecor gajet

  • The creepiest thing is that I know a guy who looks like that.

  • Comment removed

  • thats creepy actually

  • go go gadget body!....no?

  • Incredible how he looks human

  • KILL IT WIT A FLAMETHROWER!!!!!!

  • fantastic work better than some of the big name companies seen in Pop Science etc.

  • Nice work, but...

    Kill it with fire!!!

  • wow that thing look wierd CREEPY!!!!

  • It would be more lifelike if you couldn't hear the gears and stuff on the inside... other than that, it's totally awesome!

  • OMGGG!!! THAT IS SO COOL, AND IT'S NOT THAT CREEPY, IT LOOKS LIKE A REAL HUMAN HEAD.

Accept for the teeth. Dentures anyone? XD

  • SKYNET!!!!

  • This is the best one I've seen yet. Usually the eyes look a little funny, but this look legit.

  • Is that a trident mint gum for a tooth?? lol

  • Why Chicklets for front teeth? It's been done before by Walter Matthau...

  • Damn! It looks so real

  • Yikes.

  • Woah.. Perfect example of the uncanny valley effect.

  • That looks amazing.

  • Can you film the mechanics inside of it? I almost can't believe that isn't a real human head. :)

  • No Japanese, Thick Irish Accent, Odd.

  • Es espectacular.

  • He looks like Jerry Trainor

  • Instpecter gadget bum bumbaaaaahbum DAAAAA!!!

  • thats so real it looks fake, i supose with all the editing software these days you cant trust anything

  • Wow this is three years old? robots sure have come along way, I wonder if well see this with a body and AI soon.

  • I'm a computer science student but i've always been fascinated by animatronics. I'm just curious what your using to control it and do you know of any freely available resources into making this sort of thing.

  • Probably a PC and a servo controller board

  • Wow! now that's just amazing.

  • dude that thing looks so realistic!! =O

  • mmn, he's sexy..

  • um Gross

  • looks just like a human

  • Very good! I hope my first project is just a little close to as good as yours!

  • emotions like a human =)

  • WOW. fix the eyes a bit. Add hair and fix the teeth and i couldn't tell the difference.. especially at 00:09

  • Disturbing yet fascinating

  • Of course, the sex doll industry will be sure to capitalize on this technology

  • Murphy! It IS you!

  • LOL! Fantastic!

  • @lordjord5 robocop?

  • @lordjord5 I LOVE ROBOBCOP!!! sorry for shouting, I couldn't help myself.

  • Good work.

  • holy uncanny valley

  • whoa - Max Headroom lives!

  • work of the devil

  • creepy as fuck and cool as fuck lol

  • so real ^^

  • Woah! Nice face there.

  • Any suggestions of resources for animatronics information? I'm making a giant frog and would like to incorporate some facial movements like these.

  • Wow... I'm impressed for the very same reasons as the comment that precedes mine.

  • This is probably the best of all the animatronic heads I've seen. All the others look either in pain or depressed or just not human.

    Nice job whoever made this!

  • Todd, I think its because you can see the table through the back of its throat.

  • Why does he have rabbit's teeh?

  • Comment removed

  • thanks todd, thats all i can see now, i know its the table XD

  • Hahaha! Thanks! You just made me realized!

  • Only 7 servos??sinistro...

  • That's fantastic!!

  • He looks Dutch...

  • OMG! that is sooooo creepy!!

  • so simple/..they cut of a mans face...doh.

  • God, that's creepy... but, extraordinary. It's just so lifelike, it gives me chills. :S Makes me wonder what man will create in the farther future. x_X

  • thats really good, so life like. Verrry good

  • damn thats awsome.

  • AWESOME!

  • Nice job. Have you tried using squiggle motors? Just do a Google search. They are very compact and quick. .They are peizoelectric. (sic?) They look like they would work well for facial features and can be ganged for more force from what I understand. Just a suggestion.

  • Cheers for the tip, pretty cool little motors! Must keep them in mind for future project.

  • What I love most about this animatronic head is that it doesn't fall into the "uncanny valley" of creepy realism (unless you count that it's just a face on a pedestal. The features actually look lively and interested, albeit a little cartoonish for actual human emotions.

Five stars and a favorite from me!

  • Cheers, thanks for the great feedback. Well I also studied animation and was sick of seeing animatroinics faces that bearly moved and couldn't expresses so might have pushed the motion a bit :) Thanks again!

  • Hi Martin - beautiful animation! What exact kind of silicone did you use? Do you mind telling us what control system you used? Excellent stuff!

  • The silicone is "dragon skin" from the smooth-on company with "slacker" added to give it a realistic flexiblity and texture. The controller board is a ssc32 servo controller from "lynxmotion" (or i think thats the company's name from memory) Cheers for the feedback but wish the animation was better myself, want to get better software to get better control of it and get it moving right with audio for some proper lip-sync.

  • Spooky.

  • nice hey have any tips on making a gonk droid?

  • Well what would you like to know? Do you want to make it move or you just talking about the tips on the look? The originals would have just been character perfomers in a suit.

  • i would like it to move and make it look like the origanals

  • WOW!!! Standing Ovation. really looks fantastic.

I was already intrested in making animatronics but now I really want to learn it aswell.

This year I will finish my animaion graduation project wich will be a 4D ride.

So I will have some free time on my hand...

Do you have tips where I can learn to make animatronics? Hope I can get near you result in a couple of years.

  • 4D....pretty impresive sounding! Well I just feed on the extra features of DVDs to movies. They give you an idea of the industry standard way to get stared and also have the added bonus of getting you hyped and excited to do it :) Would suggest the second disc of Blade2 for some good ideas. I did a course in Model-making but pretty much figured out most this stuff myself as they never really did much animatronics on the course.

  • omgg im scared to go to bed..

  • oh my god! absolutely NO UNCANNY VALLEY!!! amazing

  • Wow, do you work for a company making these or is it a project for a university course or something similar?

  • This was my final year peice of a 3yr degree course in Model-making for film and TV. The course covers many areas but I choose to focus on animatronics for my final exhibition piece even though it's only skimed on once during the course. But all my own idea, design and work.

  • Dave Matthews?

  • Whos Dave Mattews? not me or the person this is modelled on!

  • singer Dave Matthews...search for him...looks kinda like him in a purely coincidental way.

  • You know, it does a bit! Think its mostly the big forehead though! Good music, never came across him before! Cheers!

  • thats fucking creepy

  • HOLY SHIT! that is too realistic - we laughed at data in star trek and yet we can already do better!?

  • wow... that is by far the most realistic animatronic head/face i've ever seen!!

  • that is some freaky shit. looks like we are moving more towards AI

  • well it doesnt really have to do with AI, it looks like a human but there is no brain in that head.

  • Its sad, but DOUBLESHOCK is right! he blinks but there's no one home!!! I'm ok with the hardware and animation but ain't got the sofware to back it up! Some impressive stuff out there with AI at the minute though!!

  • I have studied your model closely because it is one of the best I have seen. I think the realism comes from the latex cast. I think because its from a real face and is painted so well, it adds more realism and it looks like you have rooted real hair in the eyebrows. It would be an insight to see the animatronics underneath working on their own. Great job.

  • Hope to have a website up at some stage and will show the entire process and workings, if not a second video maybe in in order. Yes individually handpunched hairs! At least he hasn't a beard or full head of hair. A hugh part of the movment comes down to the silicone used and the way it is moulded and attached! more then people normally realise, its vital to the final result.

  • That's amazing. What is it about this head that makes it so much more realistic than other animatronic heads? Did you use motion capture to record the expressions from a real life model?

  • No, I wish! Actually had awful problem getting it to move at all through the computer software! Did spend a lot of time in front of a mirror though figuring out servo and mech position to get the convincing motions though! Wanted to have motions controlled with a 3D animation package like 3Dmax or Maya. But not a clue how, maybe next time :)

  • what if that thing looks like a real person somewhere in the world?

  • It does :) it was actually cast from a human face and altered but still has a striking likness to a very good animator friend of mine! He was at the opening of the exhibite and it was like seeing twins. he now has a cyborg double!
