The theme goes all throughout glam metal songs, from KISS to GnR (yes they are glam - they came out of the same scene). Alice Cooper wore eye makeup and freaky hair in the 70s. This just put a Hollywood spin on shock rock. Judas Priest's front man was gay, but I can't recall any glam metal singers coming out. Odd claims just based on their purposefully ridiculous attire.

It was the same thing shock rockers like Alice Cooper and Marilyn Manson were going for - the best of both worlds (beauty and the beast rolled into one). WASP's take on it is definitely more in the vampire/gothic look. Poison and early Motley Crue had the dolled-up look. Not every guy who wears makeup is trying to be a woman necessarily. Sometimes it's just to trigger a WTF response by breaking a taboo.

Nor has he sucker-punched either Izzy Stradlin' at an awards show then dashed off into the shadows or Tommy Lee in an airport and hid behind the fact that Lee was on probation and therefore couldn't do anything about it.
