I remember that really short period where Arn used to wear that hat. Thankfully it didn't last long. The hat just did not fit AA's Enforcer character.
i don't know about bockwinkle or savage, i did'nt see much of bockwinkle and savage you could'nt hardly understand sometimes. i,d like to put ox baker in, he could cut a decent promo, mick foley has to be on your list, jody hamilton was hit or miss with his promos, mostly hit. how could you not throw jim cornette into consitteration, a promo god if there ever was one and of course bobby heenan, what more needs to be said there. the rock i discount because of him being in the today's era though.
to me, the rock was a ripoff iceman king parsons, who could cut a killer promo, yet never had the exposure the rock had. so many people you could put on this list. i don't know about you picking flair as a great promo, sometimes, especially in his later days, he because stale and repetitive, like bret hart, who always had to mention hyenias, jackyls and jungles in his promos, it made you wonder if he had jungle fever. also i want to mention paul e. dangerously is a very good promo as well.
I disagree- I felt that The Rock was one of the few wrestlers like Flair, or Austin or Hart, who had it all. He had mike skills, great ability, great charisma, and was over with the crowd. In that regard, was King Parsons.
if you were going to ask me who THE greatest promo of all time is, no question in my mind it's got to be mick foley by a hair over jake roberts. both of them could paint a picture in your mind and you could see the direction they were going with the promos, they were both good with words also. they did the key elements in a promo, who you are facing, when and where you are facing them, what your mindset is, what your intent is and what your vision for endgame is. both of them had the IT factor.
However, to compare the two is outrageous. The Rock has his own style and Parsons had his. The reason I think that you are comparing the two, is because of their unbelievable charisma. In this regard, they are the same. However, what separates The Rock, is that he was able to be a success in both being a Heel or Face. Parsons was so loved, that when he turn Heel, many of people, did not buy it. This is the case of Austin, Goldberg, and Sting turning Heel.
the rock could pull of the heel because of his background, his look and his attitude, but i keep geting the feeling either rocky or the wwe writers were finding old king parsons promos and inserting words where other words would have been. lol, i was thinking about some jabroni a year ago who said goldberg could cut a promo, lol. goldberg could'nt cut himself out of a fishing net with swiss army knife, let alone cut a promo, lol. new jack could cut a better promo than goldberg, lol.
Arn could sell me on anything. If he told me I was gonna get my ass kicked, I'd bend over and wait for the boot. If he told me he could piss champagne, I'd be kneeling in front of him with my mouth open. If he told me he could shit gold nuggets, I'd be reaching into the bowl to retrieve it. Arn Anderson was that good at cutting a promo. Talking has become a lost art in wrestling as just about everything is scripted now.
If it wasn't for Vince Mcmahon the crap you call wrestling today would have a better definition of a sport, or due you enjoy seeing a circus as opposed to athletes that DIDN'T have so much pretense. And, the history of the sport is something that Vince Mcmahon has doesn't have the full monopoly on. You'd know that if you paid respect to the sport and not the entertainment. The action WAS the entertainment, that's the greatest difference between the NWA and the dookie stain.
In the Words of a Great Man...WEther You Like it, or Dont Like it Learn to Love it, because it`s the Best thing Going today !!!! And if it wasn`t for Vince McMahon and the WWE, all you would have to remember the Great Wrestlers of the past would be Memories. Learn to Pay Respect where it is due. Without that WWE 24/7 Marker in the Right Corner all you would be seeing is a Blackedout Screem.
I don't know about anyone else, but I have always thought Ole Anderson gave great promos. Didn't need to shout, he just said everything matter-of-factly and the point got across.
God how I miss this shit!! The Minnesota Wrecking Crew!! No flash, no dash, just beating down people like there was no tomorrow. The Four Horsemen were the greatest wrestling promotion of all time! CLASSIC INDEED!!
After digging through Youtube, I realize Arn brought the hat with him. He wore it when he teamed with Jerry Stubbs. Love it!

@Lfdjake91 I agree it's hard to be intimated or even take him seriously with that stupid hat.

@45Yankeeclipper Go and tell Arn that the hat is stupid...I dare ya.

If Ole was really Arn's brother, he would have said something about that hat...

In my opinion the top 10 best talker in wrestling are ( not in order ):
Roddy Piper, Dusty Rhodes, Billy Graham, Ric Flair, Jake Roberts, Nick Bockwinkel, Michael Hayes, The Rock, Arn Anderson and Bobby Heenan.

They must have run through it several times so no one would start laughing, great line.

Pair of fucking benders. Bet Arn was always hooking up with Ole's inch worm. Cheeky gaylords.

"If I tell you a inch worm can pull a freight train, you hook it up!" Double A can do a promo.

Ole's cadence, delivery, metaphore, and message were classic. Easily one of the most captivating interview/promo speakers ever.
