where's the freakin laab? the stuffed chicken wings? the pork n greens? the SUPER simple hmong food with like 3 ingredients(meat, broth, veggies)? and RICE WITH WATER lol
Lol. If he wants real Hmong food, take him to a Funeral. Make him eat the Cow Shit Soup, where they strain the left over from the intestine. Eat the Fatty Pork Intestine that's like 90% fat and oil, chicken testicles and boiled chicken head and feet :P
Dude, Hmongtown Manager Ying Xiong, the stuff you called "Bitter Bamboo" is NOT bamboo! It's Bitter Rattan Tips (ntsuag kiav theej iab). It's a vine plant that have leaves that look like palms. And it is naturally bitter.
where is "cow shit stew?" LMAo... i dont' know why Hmong called it cow shit stew, but it's a funny name. LMAO cow shit stew is chopped cow meat, cow organs with herbs, chilies, and etc..... no shit added, but i seriously don't understand why it's known as cow shit stew. LOL
@niamtxiv it does actually include some shit in it.. not the actual shit, but the left over liquid of what is washed off the stomache. Not a lot, but just that fair amount of washed shit. lols.
@liferhymedeath so the zebra goes to god and says, "God, what am i, am i black with white stripes or white with black stripes?". @annolov3r All the Hmong/Miao that has dispersed away from Southern China during those long war times with the Han, said we don't have a country. Make senses though. All you Hmong who called Laos "home" isn't our homeland. Southern China is. We're commonly known or called "Miao" and that is where our true origin started.
@zumepro For many Hmong, Laos is home because that's all they've ever known. Just because we "originated" from Southern China doesn't mean that, that is "home." Origin ≠ Home.
@annolov3r I am speaking about the people on here about how they complain about the way he pronounces "Hmong." Get over that crap and just watch and no duh I know that Hmong people are proud.
HAHAHA! THATS SO FUNNY! I love this guy so much! Gotta respect him...tehehe... Love the way he says "Hmong"---> "Mung"...sniker....tehe...SIGH! SHOUT OUT TO ALL MY COUSINS! even though we aren't blood related or what not...WE STILL RELATED SOMEHOW!!
@MissVKhang The Chinese character for "Miao" is 苗, which means seedling, sapling, shoot. If you have done an extensive research, the Miao/Hmong are actually the originator of rice cultivation in Southern China, our Homeland. The word "Miao" bad? Well, think about this. A word in any language may sound and mean something else in another language. For example, the pronunciation of "Miao" may sound like "cat" in the Mien/Yao language.
@MissVKhang It also have another negative connotations as "being Barbaric" in the Han's history. So Why? Well if you look into our history and the Han, We Hmong/Miao people are sophisticated, smart, strong, independent, nature-lover, and peaceful and the Han at the time were battling against us for control and land. But the Han lost to Us many many times. That's why we are considered "Barbaric" during that time period.
@MissVKhang According to the Han's history, when they first met our people, WE have already implemented iron or steal tools, weapons, and "things" in our daily lives. On the other hand, they were using sticks and stones. We have a rich history and much of our written history has been destroyed, disappeared, forgotten, during war times. Much of our history is past down orally. It's important that WE, be proud of our people and at the same time don't put others down.
minority asian ethnic group...we're originally from China (known as miao by the chinese)...long story short..we were involved in helping the US during the Vietnam and eventually some(many) got the chance to get a better life here in the states since then.
@maliemay Being or sounding Chinese is just too broad, even though we originated from China. In a way, we are Chinese but just not of Han ethnicity. Oh yes and there is a lot of bamboo in China.
@K9angelBabe oh so their parents died upon arrival from laos and the little hmong infants were raised by wolves instead....that must be the reason y they dont know.
Hmong people do have there own written language and also hmong people came over mostly because of the secret war in korean prior to vietnam. I alslo thought there where more hamoians in california.
It's about time the Hmong culture is recognized. Our parents have come such a long journey and we have so much to offer to the Twin Cities and our community. I'm proud to be hmong.
Stop complaining how people pronounce it. Saying that you hate how "American's" pronounce Hmong is absurd. If you're hmong and you're born in this country, that makes you American as well. Be proud that they even did this video on hmong food.
The old flee market ! Awwh too bad I dont really go there anymore. But I wonder when this Tv episode was on, never seen it before & I like to watch Andrew Zimmerman :P
I like the random asian song in the background, because we're asian they throw in an asian song that does not even represent Hmongs but Hmmmmmmmmmmmm~ PAPAYAAAA! :D
Dude, Hmongtown Manager Ying Xiong, the stuff you called "Bitter Bamboo" is NOT bamboo! It's Bitter Rattan Tips (ntsuag kiav theej iab). It's a vine plant that have leaves that look like palms.
Also, some of the historical images are Vietnamese! It's so easy to find historical footages of Hmong from the war years.
Instead of the mundane and tame flea market food, Andrew shoulda gone to the butcher houses in South St. Paul, then follow a family home for some REAL fresh Hmong food. Bourdain?
STFU about him pronouncing "Hmong" incorrectly. Be thankful for the exposure dammit. People pronounce things differently all the time. I don't see people pronouncing the words "Mexican", "Chinese", or "French" the way it should be properly pronounced either but do you hear the people making WW3 out of a mispronunciation? And on a personal note, I think "hmung" sounds closer to how it's supposed to be pronounced anyway. Props to Andrew Zimmerman.
@mvr0cks for real. some hmong people cant even pronounce america right. they say amelikas. stop complaining when a white man cant pronounce hmong right.
@aznguy11111 ummm where the hell are you from? here in the mid west (MN,WI) we got tons of places like this. This is one of the many in the twin ciites.
