the prob with BMW is that they cant make a V8 nor V10 that's reliable, never have been able to, like Americans can, i repair bimmers,so heres the list, Vanos failure,massive oil usage,leaking oil,i-drive failure, climate control assy failure, engine tapping, p/s noise, wearing out tires in less than 15 k miles, best bimmer ever made was the E39,everything after is garbage but good for us Techs

@skillz1855 thats total crap!!! since when have bmw engines become unreliable? are you seriously suggesting that american v8's or v10's (are there american v10's?) are more reliable. and the only engine damage you mention is the vanos failure which is just wrong. the only problem with the old m5 was the stupid gearbox which was annoying in every condition exept racing days. so either you dont have a clue or your clients are like most americans useless drivers. e39 is amazing indeed

@cb1983wien Dodge has a little car called the Viper with a V10 in it. I second the vanos complaint. I love BMW but haven't had good luck with them. I have owned e28, e36, e34, e39,and e46. The only one that never gave me a problem was the e28. Of course I traded it for a 73 camaro after 2 weeks so I'll never know.

@topgun182 i am not a bmw funboy but at least in europe the bmw engines are considered the top of their kind and certainly very reliable. some beemers have electrical problems i ll give you that, but i ve never heard about the VANOS system failing. sorry for your problematic car histrory. i am not gonna commend about the camaro and true the viper has a v10 (there is an 8,3 with 506 bhp, the same that the M5 makes out of 5.0) but its plain stupid to buy a Viper in Europe

@cb1983wien Couldn't agree more :) In Finland, BMWs are also considered very reliable, and most people just laugh at US-cars because of their need to have a BIG engine for big power, while you can get the same power with a much smaller engine in Japanese or European cars. I'm just saying that it's waste of petrol to have a 8,3 liter engine with 500 bhp when you can have the same power with BMW's 5.0 liter engine or Nissan's 2.6 liter engine (although Nissan needs serious turbocharging...)

@cb1983wien Google vanos and you'll see that it is one of the most common problems. There is even a vanos o-ring kit to make the repairs. I have one but didn't do the work yet.
