But didn't Manilow also do a commercial for "Tijuana Smalls" cigarillos? ("Tijuana Smalls... 10 for the road, baby, for you, maybe, you know who you are... you know who you are...") Anyone remember that one? Did he sing it or am I imagining it? And is it posted here anywhere??
Referring to my earlier comment about the Polaroid Swinger commercial: Barry Manilow did in fact sing that jingle, but I haven't yet found out if he wrote it as well.
In 1989, I bought a copy of the CD "Tee Vee Toons - The Commercials", and one of the jingles was an ad for the Polaroid "Swinger" camera that sounded like it had to have been sung by Manilow. The ad is circa 1964 or 1965 and goes: "Hey meet the Swinger, Polaroid's Swinger/It's more than a camera, it's almost alive/It's only 19 dollars and 95/Swing it up, it says "Yes"/Take the shot, count it down/Zip it off". Can anyone confirm if it's Manilow singing it, or if he wrote it?
@elc1960 Nope--I can tell you definitively that the singer of the "Meet the Swinger, Polaroid Swinger" ad (starring a very young Ali MacGraw) was sixties bubblegum idol Bobby Sherman. It's possible Manilow wrote it, don't know that for sure, but it was Sherman, the shy, stuttering Jeremy on "Here Come the Brides" and (briefly) the star of the "Partridge Family" spin-off "Getting Together," who sang the jingle.
All of these very catchy tunes gave Barry enough money so that he could do anything else that he wanted to. I wish that I had kind of talent to support my passions.
Enjoyed viewing his "Very Stange Medley" from the 1970s! Yes, I remember that one! Am a Manilow fan of his 70s-early 80s songs. I knew viewing he did the State Farm & McDonalds ones. Hmm, he did the Pepsi & Dr Pepper ones - why not Coke? Guess Coke either didn't offer him enough $ or they felt they didn't need to advertise?
@alexisdiva9 Barry did these jingles before he was famous, taht's how he made his living before the fame, so he wouldn't have be paid huge amounts of money. He would have been competing with thosuands of other struggling muscians for work, and Coke already had "I'd like to buy the world a coke".
I remember this album as a kid...when I telll people about his jingles they don't believe me!!!! It gives me the bathroom bowl blues!!!! Great post! I'm an Air Head...Air Supply!!! same era of fun!!!
I know the words to all of these jingles...lol I am as old as dirt. Going to Vegas in October to see Barry and I can't wait. He has been part of my life since I was 7. Wow
thanks for this. its awesome.

@reith61 Barry also played piano for a then-unknown Bette Midler when she was doing a musical stand-up act.

@Madnessonman this is how he made a living at first. Like an actor doing commercials or soaps.

the beggining of the song reminded me of "he's climbing up your window snatching your people up"

I am not an obese, middle aged boring white woman from the suburbs, but I kind of enjoy this kitschy jingles.

I'm glad he decided to sing the McDoanlds one, thought he might leave it out as it wasn't one he wrote, even though he did sing it in the commerical.
