Hey Alva! My name is Cajun and I'm only 25, I'm in a band with a bunch of older guys and we play rock/surf/punk music. One of my guitar players turned me on to this song and this band and I am absolutely addicted. This song is amazing and I love your bass cover and I had to sign in to tell you that you did an awesome job and to keep rocking my friend!
@MrRush1974: The neck is one of the best for my taste: Wide (side to side) and thin (front to back). I love it. Something to take into account is the fact that the Peavey T-40 is one of the heaviest (if not THE heaviest) 4-string single neck basses ever made. Thank you for your comment!
I usually play with fingers, too, but Burke Shelley has of late inspired me to brush up on my pick technique. Makes me want to go blow money on a nice Precision bass, too. The one he has in the Breadfan video is so sweet and old school. As for Peavey, they've always made quality stuff, I have a Basic 40 amp that's like 25 years old. But I don't find their instruments are comfortable to me for some reason, even though I like the sound.
@therealsporadicaarmy: Thank you for your comments! You are right: The bassline matches the guitar riff. As for a starter bass, I can tell you this: If you are looking for modern, hi-fi "active" tones, you should definitely look somewhere else. But if you like old school "passive" tones, the Peavey T-40 is one of the best choices out there. I've always said that this is one of the most versatile and fattest-sounding passive basses ever made. But it also has a con: (continued...)
@therealsporadicaarmy: It is also one of the heaviest single neck 4-string basses ever made. So, if weight is a concern, the Peavey T-40 isn't the bass for you.
can u make a video of how u play that song..... i know im to late.....like i just send u a comment in 2010 but nothing is to late....right...at list play a lesson from the first part plz.

This video rules. I have a 1983 T-40 in the 'burst. Such an amazing bass. There are so many options with them. Do you remember how you had the controls set in this video?
@xPELICANx: Thank you so much for your comment! The settings on this video are: Both pickups on, with full volume and "in phase", neck pickup's tone at 10 (for single coil mode) and bridge pickup's tone at 7 (for humbucker mode).
@Metallicalover55: Thank you so much for your kind comment! You won't find a T-40 in stores unless you search for them in pawn shops, since they were discontinued in 1987. The good news are: They are very easy to find on eBay. The average price is 300 USD. The Peavey T-40 is one of the most versatile and fattest-sounding passive basses ever made (also one of the heaviest 4-strings). A great and underrated instrument.
Excellent playing. Not many people play this song on bass, my brother plays it well, but not as good as you. I play it on guitar although I play the Metallica version it is a bit heavier, the original is the best coz Budgie wrote it.
Fantastic playing, not many people on here play this song on bass, my brother plays it and he's good, but not a patch on you! This is one of my favourite songs to play on guitar, although I play it more like the Metallica version because it is a bit heavier but the original is the best coz Budgie wrote it.
Thank you for your comment! I don't use the Zoom for non-processed direct-to-pc recordings. For most of my videos I use my Kustom KBA30 practice amp. In some cases I just plug my bass direct to the sound card's line input jack.
Thank you for your comment! The Peavey T-40 was discontinued in 1987, so you can't find it new (and I don't remember its price at that time). They pop up on eBay pretty often. A great bass guitar for cheap. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thank you again!
Thank you for your comment! The settings are the same as on my (2) previous T-40 videos: Both pickups on, with full volume and "in phase", neck pickup's tone at 10 (for single coil mode) and bridge pickup's tone at 7 (for humbucker mode).
I can say that the T-40's neck is my favorite among my basses (wide and shallow - exactly what I like), but it is not my main instrument because I prefer 5-string, 24-fret active basses. My fretted Bongo is the bass that gets the most gigs.
ey thanks for telling us you settings, ive noticed something with my T-40, if i back off the volume on the bridge pup it greatly increases the neck pups volume, and if i set the bridge pup to humbucker mode with the volume still rolled off a bit the tone is virtually the same as what it would be if i were to use the switch to shut off the bridge pup. have you noticed this as well? or do i possibly have faulty electronics?
Thank you for your message (and my apologies for the delay in my reply)! Well, I'm not sure if I'm understanding your issue correctly, but one thing's for sure (in my experience, at least). The T-40's neck pickup is way hotter than the bridge PU. Actually, I think the neck pickup is this bass' biggest strength since the bridge PU sounds too nasal and (comparatively) weak for my taste.
Not sure if this may help. Please let me know if you need further assistance. Thank you again! :)
thanks for the reply it did help me to understand whats going on. i think you may have misunderstood my question though which is my fault due to poor phrasing. Anyway, when i turn the volume down on my bridge PU it almost seems as if im making the neck PU louder rather than quieting the bridge. Have you noticed this as well? i may have faulty or dirty electronics was my first guess. or i could just be crazy.
Yesterday I played my T-40 extensively and didn't notice such behavior, man. Both volume and tone controls work as expected. The only problem with my T-40's electronics is that the phase switch sometimes silences the bridge pickup and I must move the switch a little until I get the pickup to work again. Fortunately I never use that phase switch, so it is not really a problem if I don't touch it.
that t-40 sounds rocking! your playing is great. you need to do a video of you playing your rick with a pick! its been awhile since ive heard from you. how are you doing?
Hey Ali, glad to hear from you again! Everything's fine here, man. How are you? Still have the Ibanez ATK?
I'm glad you like the video. As I say in the description, I already have a video playing my Ric with a pick, but maybe you are talking about a song without distortion. I'll look for something. Thank you so much! :)
