  • Check YouTube video eOuzUi5ckrk - That's the one that helped me.

  • I had it for about 3 days. It can go away even without treatment apparently.

  • @chodaboy51500 Only if you are lucky man..... thats what the doctor told me 1 year ago... i still have it.....

  • man im 15 ...... and ive had dizziness everytime i lay my head down on the left - hand side..... its been 1 year..... and i still get it but im to scared to practise the manovuer

  • I don't suppose you could reply to me the video you watched???

  • Im 18. i had a ringing in my ear which i cant really hear anymore. but last night i turned in my bed and felt as if i was rolling down a hill.

my doctor has given me PROCHLORPERAZINE tablets, what should i do, im too young to be hooked on pills???

  • Hello RubyRube10465, I have a question. Could you please link me the video that helped you, ive had the same sympthoms for about roughly 3 months. My doctor told me to look it up on youtube, or simply just roll on the floor. I got it cause I had neumonia, and I was sitting still too much, and the "crystals" in my ear is pretty much solid frozen. And this is really tearing my social life apart since I cant be bothered going out with friends when I get this dizy feeling every time I move my head.

  • Thx CloudStrife78. I'm pretty much healed. The unsteady feeling went away after a couple of weeks of just taking it easy. The ENT doc says the healing process is different for everyone, but some people get "off" feeling. BTW the ENT was very impressed I was able to cure the BPPV one my own, but I agree to use caution performing the manuevers, my friend is an ER doc and talked me though it.

  • I went to a physiotherapist, and he did the relative manouvers, problem gone after 4 visits......jeana

  • I would go see an ENT Dc immediately if you have the dizziness. If done properly the Epley manuever has an 80% cure rate. I'm sorry for those of you that it doesn't work with. I had same situation and performed the manuevers at home. The same thing happened, I got really dizzy and then I woke up in the morning and I was fine. The only other thing is I that I now have a strange unsteady feeling that is persistant but minor, and it takes a couple weeks to heal completely for some people.

  • @cgelb1 The only caution I have received is to be careful if you do Epley at home. I guess my therapist has seen some people who tried to do the exercises at home and ended up stopping in the middle and moving the crystals to the horizontal canal (really bad). As for the "off" feeling you get after the maneuver, the Brandt-Daroff exercises do wonders for it. Just don't do for 24 hours after Epley as it might cause your problem to recur (which mine seems to be doing with or without them).

  • Ugh I just got it I think I have to see a doctor tomorrow but I get dizzy as well as nausea it really sucks. I did home-Epley thing and I got real dizzy but I don't see any improvement yet.

  • I used the claymation bppv video and other with the exact steps on what to do.

  • Hello exactly what video did you watch to help yourself????

    Thanks

  • 4 months?!? I was going crazy after 4 days. The claymation bppv video worked for me after the 2nd try. I still get vertigo with occasional head movements but nothing close to what it was before. thanks for sharing your story it was helpful.

  • ITS NAT A TOOMUH

  • Thanks, Rubyrube. Very helpful info.

  • thankss

  • HI Reuben, thanks for the video. Really appreciate you taking the time to do this. I have the same symptoms, verified by the doctor. I'm going to try this.

  • I have the same, I had that aweful exam and the doctor told me that it was because of the stress. It was over after 2 weeks, and now after 8 months is back again. :S Relazing is the only cure for me.

  • @eugeo1234 hey same here, i suffered with this years ago pretty bad. it seemed to have just went away for quite some time, now it seems its back again. as i type this i am having a vertigo attack and its been going on for a couple hours now, i am very stressed.

  • ...also do not perform on both ears at same time. First need to figure out which ear is affected and I think the hall-pike maneuver is one that can help with that.

  • Good video. I have lived with BPPV for over 10 years. An audiologist actually performed the Epley Maneuver on me many years ago and now I use this as well whenever I have episodes. I actually hadn't had a bad one in years until today and yes it is very debilitating. I completed the maneuver n feeling a bit better. Something good to know that if you use Epley (per audiologist ) that you DO NOT want to sleep in a prone postion. sleep as close to sitting up as possible for 3 nights.

  • Thanks allot I been having BPPV for 3yrs Now and I was going Crazy Now its not gone yet but its slowing getting better. I had it really bad to the point the when I walk i had no balance but now i can enjoy a walk o a early jog in the morning...

  • I have had bppv for 15 years now , I can feel something moving foating in my left ear. Was just wondering if this will ever go away on its own.

  • Comment removed

  • I think I have this right now, but I am usually imballenced a lot when I walk. I see the ENT next week, I cant wait!

  • I believe I have BPPV and going to get tested soon using the ENG test for vertigo. I get very dizzy even looking side to side (try to drive a car when you can't look left and right). I can walk fine as long as I walk like I am balancing a book on my head. I always feel "off" all day long but get episodes of extreme dizziness when I my head is in certain positions. The only mystey is that I only get this during the summer in the months of June and July. I have never had it any other time!?

  • I have had this for about 2 months now. Family doc sent me 2 ENT, and he did the epley maneuvers in his office. I have been doing them for a week so far at home and I seem to be gettting worse. Anyway, thank you for posting this video. After seeing all the responses to it, I don't feel like the lone ranger anymore. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

  • I was diagnosed with BPPV about 9 years ago and still have it. I've learned to live with it - mostly brought on in bed so I never lie flat, always have 2 pillows & do NOT turn over in bed - especially quickly. That's what started my first attack. I've tried Epley manover but didn't work (although I never tried more than a few times as I was too scared of having an attack - the last bad one I was sick around 20 times and off work again). Think I'll have another try at the manover again!

  • I've had BPPV for 4 years and I too have learned to live with it. I have slept propped up in bed since May 2007. I also tried to perform the Epley procedure but the room started spinning and I couldn't inflict that on myself again. My friends called paramedics because I couldn't stop vomiting. I've heard about a product called ZyVestra. Has anyone tried it?

  • Hi, i was just wondering, i had just been diagnosed that i have bppv, and today is my fourth day, if my bppv doesn't cure, does it mean that i will have it EVERYDAY until it is fully cured? could we be fully recovered from bppv?

  • @yamapsaikou It could last anywhere from a few weeks to many years, there is no need to suffer when the Eply maneuver can fix the problem.

  • have had vertigo for 3 years now and its getting more frequent. starting to depress me.

Will try the epley maneuvre, I hope it works!

  • Rubyrube, I had bppv for a miserable month. ER doc prescribed meds that didn't help. I saw your video, did the epley 3 times that day, and was 100 percent cured. Thank you for saving me.

  • I have had it for a year and I have a complex version of it that still has'nt been fixed. So I keep trying.... Great Video

  • I had the EXACT symptoms. I went to a neurologist 20 years ago and he recommended the Epiley procedure and it never helped, so I gave up. Then after watching this video I searched BPPV and found a similar procedure called the Brandt-Daroff procedure. I performed this on the edge of a bed and experienced a lot of vertigo, but I persisted. I repeated 3 more days. The symptoms are now GONE!

    Thanks, RubyRube

P.S. ALWAYS seek professional medical advice before doing any kind of home cures.

  • this feeling is pure hell. it feels like im being lifted up out of my body and spinning around. it happens almost every night when i try to go to sleep. can anyone relate to this? any advice?

  • I have had Menieres, Lost the balance nerve in one ear, and now I am prone to BPPV.

I lived with it for about 6-8 months, not knowing what it was. Finally, my Neurologist sent me to a hearing and balance center for PT.

I would advise anyone with dizzies to go to Dr. first before trying the thing themselves. There can be repercussions that you don't know about and need to be examined.

  • Ive had this for 3 days and it fuckin sucks balls

  • Without injury history and if I am dizzy when I bend my head backward on either side, how do I know which ear is the bad one?

  • Not sure, but all the you-tube videos should tell you that. Please search again for BPPV and check the videos by the more medically inclined then I.

    Reuben

  • Personally I don't think an MRI is necessary. Try the Epley manever and if that doesn't work then go to a doctor. I got into a fight, didn't get knocked out but the next day I had severe dizziness when in certain positions so I looked up my symptoms on google and managed to self-diagnose it, found out about the Epley Maneuver and it went completely. It must of dislodged the calcium crystals when I got hit in the head.

  • Thank you for sharing since I have BPPV.

  • You have to see an Audiologist. They specialize in fixing this. Careful different maneuvers focus on different canals in the ear

  • Thanks for your help. I had BPPV for about two weeks and it was driving me insane. I saw your video and did the Epley Maneuver as you suggested. The following couple of days I felt lightheaded and I had no balance but then I started feeling better. The dizziness I had was much less strong. I repeated the Maneuver a few more times and now my BPPV is nearly gone. I still have a little discomfort when I lay down on one side but I am sure that soon I will be completely fine. Thanks to RubyRube.

  • I woke the other night after "moving"...felt sick. It happened years ago, only now know this is probably what it is. Had it for 2 days...dizzy when laying down mostly. Feel good now. Thank you fellow NY'r!

  • thanks for the info!!!! i going to do well on my test about it on Monday!!!!

  • bad i started throwing up and i kept feeling w nausea all afternoon.Right now I still feel w nausea and a little dizzy...how I would like this damn thing to stop..i dont know if it will take more days or more treatments

  • HI ruby I have BPPV, the first severe crisis came 4 years ago, since that moment my life was never the same, i use to feel the vertigo evrynight when i turn my head, Doctors said there was no cure top that, but yesterday i went to see another dr, he practiced the epley manouver, it felt like hell, afeter a few minutes the dizzines was so

  • Anyone know which video (or the poster of this very informative video) suggest any of the Epley Maneuvers that are on YouTube. I am new to vertigo/dizziness and I am trying a couple of them. Neither have been able to get rid of it, but, the room isn't spinning either. I had an MRI which was normal. That's as far as I've gone with it. Any thoughts would be great.

    Thanks!

  • Search for BPPV. The first video that pops up on the list titled: Dix-Hallpike and Epley Maneuvers for BPPV, in Claymation is good. Also the dizzyfix hat helps you do the maneuver properly. A neurologist in the 'know' could also preform this maneuver in an office visit.

  • thanks for sharing. Im eager to try this epleys.. Im a soccer player and Im assuming some 'rough headers' were the cause of my bppv..

Regardless how it began, I want to find out how its gonna end. Im hoping this Epleys will be just that. thanks again.

  • I just had this for the first time over the weekend. I tried the Eply and the room spun so bad that it put me into an extreme spin, I was sweating severely, and I almost threw up. It was miserable! I went to the chiropractor this morning and he did the toggle maneuver on 1 and 2 and I felt better immediately! Don't rule this out as an option!

  • it comes and goes...i can go months with no episodes but when it comes back..it happens every day...usually just dizzy feeling but lately the room starts spinning...that is happening once a day now.

  • The epley maneuver is supposed to move the crystals in your inner back to its original place, where it doesnt make you dizzy anymore. Once you've successfully moved them through the canals of your inner ear with epleys the dizzyness will disappear, until next time (which should be months, years or never). It might take a couple of tries though. So instead of waiting for it to disappear slowly by itself, you can help it by doing it yourself.

  • HI there....I also have BPPV and I have had it for about 5 yrs....I have had the eply done about 10 times....It makes me feel better immediately but the dizziness always come back. I hope that you are all cured after doing the Eply just once...I am not that lucky...I hope it doesnt come back for all of you. I get dizzy all the time and I can be driving and the road starts spinning. Good Luck everyone

  • Define "all the time".

  • I totally agree.. I have BPPV now.. and its really bad.. crazy bad. To the point that even when I eat chips and it crunches in my mouth, I get dizzy. I am still under medication and I thank God you uploaded this video. Now, I know that it can really be cured.

  • I'm only 21 and I had this. I got cured after my regular doctor did this maneuver twice in one session. Almost threw up in his office but I got better within the hour. I'm just wondering, if this happened once, will it most likely happen again?

  • I did the Epley manoeuvre when I had the episode and it did help but I still haven't found a definite answer how long the effect really lasts. Nobody can tell me if it is safe for instance to play basketball without risking another attack. I'm quite honestly not too keen on trying myself.

My mother had to undergo surgery in the inner ear btw, so it also leads me to believe that there's a strong genetic component.

  • Thanks for this, man. Good to see a fairly high number of views. The healthy public should be made aware of this as it can be really debilitating for the sufferer and can leave the healthy person in disbelief or even suspicious (alcohol, drugs etc). I had a very bad attack once after playing basketball, constantly looking up. The nausea was unbearable. I couldn't even keep water in anymore. I'm very careful now doing anything that I believe might cause such an attack again.

  • Only last week did a doctor correctly diagnose my BPPV after intermittent problems over years. Listened to your video. Googled and did the Eply Manoeuvre - problem solved within half a day. Thank you very much. Your efforts seem to have paid off for quite a few people. Cheers John

  • Thanks for posting this! I was diagnosed with BPPV today after dealing with the dizziness for over a year. At first I was diagnosed with mal de debarquement syndrome, but after getting super dizzy doing yoga I knew it had to be something else. My doctor did the Epley maneuver on me today...crossing my fingers that it works as I don't want to give up yoga. It's such a relief to see that other people have gone through the same thing with positive results :)

  • Thank-you for posting this video. I woke up this morning with the room spinning and became nauseous as well. I went to the hospital and was diagnosed with BPPV. I was told to go home, look it up on the internet, as well as the Epley's Maneuver and take care of it myself.......so, thank-you very much for your input!

  • yeah i know everytime i wake up i feel like im gonna fall it feels like shit and then when i do fall and its like i lose my memory for a while

  • I have had it for about 6 years now. I am 20 years old. When I tol my parents about it they said that I should not get out of bed so fast. So I figured it was normal and I was doing it to myself. I started looking at it recently...I have these symptoms exactly to my left. I can't thank you enough for posting this, you have seriously given me my life back. :D

  • I'm glad you have a way out of that world now!

I posted this video for people for this exact reason. I am so glad I was able to help. Even helping one person would have been worth it to me, but now helping MANY people over the past year is priceless.

    Good luck,

    Reuben

  • I've had vertigo for years. It comes back and stays for months after I ride on boats, planes or high places. BPPV is also a symptom of MS.

  • I got banged on the head and got dizzy symptoms the next day. I didn't know what was happening. I searched all over the internet but I really didnt know what I was looking for. Finally I isolated the symptoms to my right side when lying down. That pointed to BPPV. Preferred treatment Epley manever, I tried it myself without success but it is very easy to get wrong. Went to ENT, he put goggles on me, identified the canal and it worked first time. No need to suffer with this, Epley does work.

  • i have the bppv sympton and its really anoying. Happens to me about every 4-6 months. I feel horrible when i turn my head sideways when laying down. The manuever seems to be the treatment but Im scared that my bppv would kick in. Its horrible...

  • You need insurance to go doctor after doctor, I had one episode a few years ago in the morning where I looked up at the window from bed and the whole Gyroscope thing started (BAD) after it dissipated there was a lingering affect all day.The best was to describe it is when I had a concussion, when I moved my head at all had a gyroscope affect,

Queeziness, anxiety,I havent had a real episode

in a while, but I feel like I operate every day at a sustained low level of vertigo,it's always there.

  • thank you for the advice. i had one in 2002 and went thru all kind of test and treatment but no cue until Dr. told me about BPPV. Recently the dizzy spin re-ocurred to me one morning for 1 hr. It was a scary feeling that i never want again. will see the specialist to fix it if I have one next time. No the epidso is gone.

  • I think I have bppv also. Laying down, standing up, moving my head back everything starts spinning out of control. Pretty scary. Went to my doctor and he gave me nose spray because he said it might affect my ears.grrrrrrrrrr!!! I need to go see someone that know what they're talking about. This is really messing me up.

  • I think I too am going out of my head. 5 days now falling over and I'm going to a neurologist. GP Doc gave me meclizine but just 3 a day. I've been doing the excercises but it hasn't improved. I keep telling myself I would have fainted by now if I was going to pass out. Just sitting upright is horrible. I'm a librarian and can't work like this, any suggestions, I'll try. So baffled, came on and bam, hasn't left me. The room spins, I can't drive now. Thanks, Christine

  • i am 12 years old...and i have benign postional vertigo the doc said i can do exercises then it will go awaty for ever....

  • I tried fixing it myself but got WAY too dizzy! A licensed professional has specialised equipment that can help determine which of the canals is affected. They can also prescribe tailored rehab treatment. Unfortunately a lot of GPs have very little idea about how to treat BPPV. My doctor said "Don't worry, it'll go away in a week". It didn't. I was left to research this on my own and I found a vestibular specialist who fixed me.

  • Hi, congrats on resolving BPPV yourself. The only thing I would suggest is for people to go to a licensed professional to perform the Epley. The thing with BPPV is that one manouvre does not neccessarily fix all kinds of BPPV. It's complex. On each side of the head there are 3 canals that can be affected & each of them are oriented in a different way. In my case I had it on both sides of head which called for a different treatment regime. In your case you probly got lucky in fixing it yourself.

  • I have all of the symptoms of bppv and my dr has never even mentioned it. I have been dealing with these symptoms for two years now and he is finally after two years sending me for a cat scan. So I hope they figure out what is wrong with ms and I am hoping that it Is bppv. I keep on thinking that I have a brain tumor

  • The Epley maneuver is a medical treatment that should ONLY be performed by a licensed professional, after a diagnosis is made by a licensed professional. BPPV is cureable, however, again should ONLY be performed by a licensed professional (MD, or Physical Therapist), because you can become very nauseous, and have balance problems immediately following the maneuver, and could actually cause harm to yourself.

  • I developed BPPV a little less than a year ago. It comes on every few months lasting about a week. My doctor told me to take motion sickness pills and "wait it out". I have tried vitamin B, Calcium, Magnesium, chewing ginger root, drinking pots of Fenugreek seed tea, warm milk with thyme, and even a nasty mix of black pepper, salt, and lemon juice in water. I tried the maneuver one with no change. I'll give it another go. Thanks.

  • Good luck. I had to do the maneuver several times before getting it right and eliminating the dizziness for good. I went to a Neurologist who knew how to do the maneuver I would advise the same for you. Call prior to make sure the Neurologist is familiar with the maneuver.

    GOOD LUCK!

    Reuben

  • I think they don't mention the maneuver because they either don't believe it works or are ignorant regarding the maneuver. The right type of doctor (neurologist) would definitely know about the maneuver and how to perform it properly.

The maneuver only needs to be done once properly and you could be cured. I only did it a number of times because I didn't get it right the first few attempts. A neurologist could do it for you in a medical office.

    GOOD LUCK!

    Reuben

  • I've been sick with vertigo for 9 months!

I seen your video and found the Epley's maneuver on Youtube. I sure hope this works for me. I've been to every doctor and had everytest. No one ever mentioned this maneuver before??? Not even my physical therapist, who's treating me for vestibular problems... I've seen a few variations of the maneuver. How many times a day did you perform it?

    Thanks for sharing!

  • Ditto on not doing the Epley yourself. Let a doc do it, or have someone with you.

  • excellent, finally understand the 'positional' vertigo symptoms - i've got something else, apparently an inner ear virus -

might be similar to way chickenpox/ shingles works ...all i can do is lay down and let it happen-

  • Thanks for your comments. Exactly what part of my info here within do you believe is not quite correct?

  • Geeza, to be honest your info is not quite correct, but more importantly, anyone wanting the Epley maneuver had better have a physician do it, rather than yourself. I tried it once alone during my first bout of BPPV and literally collapsed - with no-one around to help me up.

**MAKE SURE to not do this maneuver alone.** And seriously, get deeper info on BPPV, you need it. **Get professional advice and rehabilititation.**

  • I have BPPV, I had it like 6 years ago and now again, Just went to the ENT Dr today and he diagnosed it as BPPV, I am going to check out this "eply" manuever thing, I pray it works! Thanks dude

  • Good luck!

  • ive had virtigo sfor about......3 to 4 months now.,at least i think its vertigo bu when i wake up or after lying down

for a while i would feel really dizzy..plus every time i look at something its really defined or something!!it just wont go away and i cant do things i used to ...it just doesnt feel right.

  • I imagine what your mom is saying is possible but I'm not a doctor, so I really can't give a knowledgeable answer.

Good luck, I hope you feel better soon.

    --Reuben

  • im 15, and i've had vertigo since the 3rd grade. doctors put tubes in my ears, and that helped for about a year, then every now and then it came back. but these past couple days have been REALLY bad and the room spins like crazy, so i'd lie down. after a couple hours i'd be fine, but when i moved my head i got dizzy all over again!

my mom thinks that since i was born 2 months early, something might not have developed in my inner ears. could this be possible?

  • i've been having BPPV for 6 days now, or at least i THINK it's bppv.... thanks for posting this video... i'm going to try that epley maneuver. if it doesn't work, i swear to god i'll go CRAZY. i really cannot take this anymore.

  • You should see a doctor. Don't diagnose yourself.

    Good luck,

    --Reuben

  • did this maneuver worked for you?

  • I still have BPPV and it's already 3 months now... thank u for posting this video :-)

  • I get BPPV about once a year...lasts a few hours...can't lie flat, the rooms spins...then, it goes away.

  • that's called "drunk"...it happens on your birthday.

  • Uh, no, this happens when I have had nothing to drink. The calcium deposits in my ear just get dislogdged for a little while, then go back into place. And, yes, it is like being drunk.

  • I have had BPPV problems since Aug 2007. My BPPV is not that bad because it comes and goes through out the months. Sometimes I dont even feel BPPV for a few months then it comes back again one day while I wake up. Im honestly tired of it in a way.

I wasnt born with BPPV.I was walking back home from the movies with my girlfriend when all of a sudden I blacked out. I woke up in the hospital and my girlfriend told me someone attacked me and hit me on the head once and I went unconscious.

  • Which Epley Maneuver is correct?

There are a couple of versions?

  • Hi

I am new to you tube, did you have any other symptoms? I feel light headed

    Luan

  • No other symptoms besides the dizziness when the head was moved in the back right or left position.

    Good Luck,

    --Reuben

  • Good luck. Mine didn't get better slowly. Immediately after the Eply maneuver I was very dizzy, but the very next day I was cured.

    Good luck!

    Reuben

  • Wow Dude.I am 18 years old and i went throught exactly the same thing you did. I thought i had a tumor, i got alot of panic attacks i didnt know what the hell is wrong with me. Lost 20 pounds and i really got all depressed. I did MRI. blood test. even chiropractor to check if i had any mis alighnments in my neck that may have caused my kneck nervs to act a way of giving me dizzy. I went ot the Ent he gave me excersises to do, and slowly but surely am getting better

  • My partner was struck by BPPV (in UK labelled 'labyrinthitis'). She suffered vertigo, dizziness and other 'hangover' symptoms which are bad for a sharp Business Consultant. We met folk who'd suffered it for YEARS. Depressing - till by chance I talked to a guy who'd had it AND had heard of a treatment in the US (Epley). So we tried it. It worked immediately and she got her life back again. Such a simple 'cure' for a debilitating condition should be screamed from rooftops. Good job, RR10465.

  • Glad to hear she's cured. Best of luck in the future. Btw, YouTube is as close to a roof top as I could get. ;>

    Reuben

  • ...Thank you.

I've been dealing with this since I was about 4 or 5 I am now 15.

Mine has gotten so bad that I hardly leave the house anymore because any sort of motion messes me up.

I've seen about 7 different types of doctors and it's always something different.

I've lost friends, made enemies, and everything in between because I wasn't able to get out.

My weight has gone up and I've become depressed...I am just ready to live my life.

This is about the only thing I haven't tried.

  • Don't give up, it took me many times to finally get the maneuver correct.

    GOOD LUCK,

    Reuben

  • I got my first dizzy spell over a year ago, in the middle of a school assembly. Ever since the doctors have been telling me different things and it's only recently they told me it was BPPV. However, they were too late to get me the right treatments before my final exams. Now I want it sorted before college, or I'll just lose all the confidence to do anything... :(

Thanks for posting this. :D It gives me hope, and that's something I need real bad after the last few attacks I had.

  • If it's BPPV, you are going to be fine. Have you tried the maneuvers yourself? When it worked for me, it got worse for a few hours before it got completely better. If the calcium crystal has been misplaced for a long time it takes a while for the brain to get use to it being back in the correct position or area.

    Good luck!

    Reuben

  • Thank you. :)

We're going to try the maneuvers once we've checked with the doctor which ear it's in. I've seen videos of how to do the epley one, and so far that's looking the most promising...

  • It took me about five tries over a couple of weeks before I got the maneuver to work. Take your time and try to follow the video exactly how prescribed. GOOD LUCK!

    Reuben

  • OMG! Thank you so much! I have had BBPV since I was 15 years old. I am now 30. I have never been able to get rid of it, so have learned to live with it. My symptoms are the same as yours were. I am going to check out the video you recommended. Thank you so much for making this! My quality of life has suffered because of this.

  • You're welcome! And GOOD LUCK!

    Reuben

  • Hi - I've had BPPV for 7 years and had two major attacks after turning over in bed (sick for 6 hours then slowly improves over the next few months) - did your BPPV start the same way?

  • Not sure exactly when mine started. I think maybe from age (43) or riding a motorcycle (the vibrations). In bed was when I fixed it!

Man, I never want to feel like that again! Good luck!

    Reuben

  • Go see an Audiologist!! A majority of the time when people are dizzy it has to do with their inner ear. Most Audiologist are trained at balance testing and conduct ENG or VNG testing at their office. If BPPV is the culprit your Audiologist should be trained in performing the Epley maneuver which in a majority of cases "cures" BPPV on the first try. If it is not BPPV then they will refer you to a local ENT if they do not have one working for them.

  • I know the feeling. I am only 22 and just found out yesterday that I have Paroxysmal vertigo, and Meniere's Disease. The doctor says I'll live it for at least 20 more years, I'm not familiar with this though, so I am looking for ways to not let it affect my life, any elp ould be really appreaciated.

  • Wow. I just got diagnosed with BPV myself and have been trying the exercises this gentleman described. It hasn't worked totally yet but I am going to keep trying it until it goes. My doctor says it will go away but you must be patient.

  • MRI isnt' needed nor is a balance test. If you go to an ENT with these symptoms, he will more likely than not do a Dix-Hallpike maneuver which uses no machinery just you moving your body. A positive test is pretty much pathogneumonic for BPPV. Plus, this will save you and your insurance co. money.

  • I don't think a balanace test is needed, but I think CT scans or MRI scans are better safe than sorry. It might not necessarily be cancer, but there are benign tumors that can grow in the canals between the inner ear and brain.

  • I know. Learned it in medical school. But they are rare, and with a high index of suspicion, don't be upset if your doctor doesn't do imaging.

  • hey thanks

  • p.s you dont need a MRI. best thing is just see a doctor is this doesn't sort it or if your unsure. They can suggest what you need, but an MRI isn't nessicary unless something else is going on.- btw im training to do this stuff lol. I got my exam on Vestibular Assessment in a few hours!

  • If you've got a postive result on one side do the Epley starting from that side. If epley doesn't work for you,try Log Role (videos on here) or the Seamonts Liberatory Manoeuvre

  • It's just one of those things, i can be caused by trauma by can just happen, i think im right in saying the aging part is normaly around middle age. To see if you've got BPPV you need to do the Dix-hallpike test. You'll need someone to help you with it, but there should be videos on here. just make sure YOU DONT HAVE NECK CONDITIONS. This test will see which side the problem is one.

  • Man, i got this since i was like, 8, 9?

i still have it and went to the doctor when i was 12 they gave me sum paper with on it how to do the movements..

i didn't do them, i thought doctors would just give people pills and everything would be fine :|, i still have it,

it gets worse like, every week and yesterday i googled 'always dizzy' and found my prob

i got some videos and pictures on how to do it, and im gona do it alot :P

  • hi, what maneuver that you did? do you mind showing me? im kind a shuffering this disease for 1 month plus. is driving me crazy. thx

  • google or youtube Epley manuever. It is fairly simple once you get used to doing it. Just remember to keep your head down the whole time.

  • hi, what maneuver that you did? do you mind showing me? thx

  • I was diagnosed with BppV 1 week ago.The nausea and dizzyness was terrifying. The docter in the ER gave me the nausea medicine and performed the Epley Maneuver, which basically caused me to pass out and vomit. The MRI and blood tests were both good and clear. Today,a week later,I'm about 75% better, still dizzy upon getting up and head movement, and walking outside with a cane. I'm seeing the neurologist this week.I plan to make adjustments in my life for this illness-things could be worse.

  • Good luck! Hopefully, once it's gone it's gone for good.

    Reuben

  • I'm glad you're cured...

  • Thanks for sharing! I am suspecting myself having BPPV too. Will try the Epley Maneuver.

  • I had to try it several times or a 2 week period before I actually got it right. Good luck!

    Reuben

  • I have tried it!!! It worked for me. 1 time, only 1 time, the next day, I am almost symtom free. I had it for a week and have tried so many treatments including neck/spine adjustment by chiropractor as well as craniosacral, supplementations with minerals and vitamin but none of them totally cured it!! Thanks for the sharing again. I am so glad!! So thankful.

  • Oh by the way, have you ever wonder what causes this? I am doing some investigation online. I have never experienced any trauma. Of course not due to aging (I am 31). Perhaps virus...or my best guess is water coming from my shower (shampoo, chlorine from water)..Any thoughts?

  • I assumed mine was cause by riding my motorcycle and the constant vibrations caused a calcium crystal to break away from its pack.

    Congratulations on yours!

    Reuben

  • I think i have this bpv. for the last three days if i lye down flat the room spins horribly. This is the first time i have experienced something like this (im 29).

  • I have been diagnosed with BPPV. I was also diagnosed with Meniers disease. I also see a neuro for focal seizures. I am having increasing problems with the vertigo - never know when it's going to hit! It's very embarrasing!! I was recently desk shopping and looked down a little too long and had to be helped to my car. I was humiliated. Is this considered a medical disability since the word "benign" is in the title? Be well and thank you.

  • Well BPPV may not be a disability since it usually comes and goes in many ppl. However, Meneire's Disease can be a disabitlity claimable in some situations because it can cause vertigo without warning that is debilitating. It is also treatable so whether or not you can claim it is between you and your lawyer.

  • Yuor video helped me out so much. I'm 17, and trying to live a life between high school and band practice sucks with BPPV, to say the very least. Thank you!

  • HI THANKS FOR THE VIDEO !!

    That is really helpful

I just wondered did you do it only on one side, and if so which side ?

    thanks again RubyRube !

  • I only DID it on the side that had the issue. For me that was my left side. Good luck!

  • Thanks for the post. Did you have nystagmus (where your eyes would look like slot machines)? My doc didn't see it so he dismissed BPPV but I still get vertigo, especially after awakening in the morning. I tried Epley several times but the vertigo always returned. Kudos on your persistence. I'm going to try Epley a couple of more times! Thanks!

  • Yep, I had nystagmus. Is your vertigo directly related to the movement in a certain direction of your head?

    Reuben

  • At first, the vertigo would almost always occur when I would awaken and roll out of bed. When I had Epley performed on me, it definitely hit when I'd turn my neck to the left side. In all, my vertigo would usually abate when I stood up. Just recently though, it's been occurring even when I'm standing. Any insight?

  • I've heard that if there is congestion in the head, like maybe from a cold or allergies that the crystal might not move around to easily. If what you have is indeed BPPV, try to get any head congestion or allergies cleared up and then try the Eply maneuver again. I did it many times before it actually worked.

  • Thanks for the congratulations. It's a huge relief not having to deal with it anymore, after 5 long months. What is your relation to BPPV? Are you a doctor, or did you ever have it?

    Reuben

  • Congratulations on taking the initiative to cure yourself! Your experience is very typical.

It doesn't matter what kind of doctor you see, as long as they are familiar with the Epley Maneuver. If they aren't familiar with it, or says it doesn't work, find another doctor.

No need for an MRI, or ENG in typical cases, just do the Epley Maneuver and if you're cured, you're cured.
