A passive mini Star Wars shield, or removing population from areas of southern Israel that are under attack, would stop the rockets, but it's absurd to claim that a one-sided military attack could do so.

With all the money and weapons Israel has, can't they make something to intercept the rockets before they hit Israel? I mean this are cheap, hand made rockets. Or shoot the rockets out of the sky? That would be a real defense. Slaughtering hundreds of innocent people is not a defense.

Jahkillian, it's a financial term called "cost-effective". There are many anti-missile devices available, but at a cost of 50 thousand USD per anti rocket rocket, against a 250USD home made rocket... you get the picture.

The other problem is that by countering the rockets you do not stop the launching nor the launchers themselves. Even if the system was costeffective, a second missile could be launched from the same launcher before the system could react to it.

But if the rockets are only 250USD, why would it take a 50thousand USD rocket to knock it out? Aren't they made to knock out other 50thousand dollar rockets? Once a rocket is fired, isn't easy to pint were they fired it from?

I guess my point is, one side has to stop and take the hit. THE BIGGER MAN lets say. This seems to be Israel. Once they show the world, "look they keep trying, if you don't stop them we will!" That would work better then 1000s dieing in 10 days.

Its kind of like a world renowned MMA fighter or boxer, fighting a drunk stupid kid. The boxer could easily make the drunk kid look stupid with out killing him or knocking him out. Regarding the finance - if someone shoots at you, his bullet would cost around fifty cents. To stop it from hitting you (if you cannot move) you have to have a bulletproof vest which costs several hundreds of dollars.

Try sending thousands of dollars worth of an armed gunship+ fuel+ guns to destroy one man carrying a 300 dollar rocket launcher with a 10 dollar egg timer. How many times would you have to do it? What are the chances he'd still be there by the time the gunship gets there?

That's not true because the US funds Israel with money (billions of it) and weapons. If this didn't happen, believe me, Israel wouldn't even exist. Also, your own historian (Dr Shlomo Sand) has said that the Israelis there are not the original people of that country but the Palestinians are. Know your historical facts before you speak.
