  • Jack Conte is God. Jesus does not exist.

  • 14 people don't believe in god. Thumbs up if Jesus is our savior.

  • And another great song.. D:

  • So good!!! I can't stop listening this music!!

  • I've always admired you arranging! Absolutely Amazing! Also you vocal melodies are breath taking! Its a pleasure listening to your art! :D

  • huh i thought the cello player and the violin player looked similar. theyre brothers.

  • At 2:14, I had the screen minimized because I was writing an essay, so I thought the sound was coming from outside (darnit, headphones, you've done it again) xD

Great song, by the way! :D

  • I discovered one of your songs about 4 hours ago, and I've been listening to you since. I think im becoming obsessed! haha. Good job dude your seriously amazing.

  • Elliott Smith would be proud ;)

  • Such a good choice to include a oboe. Beautiful instrument.

  • This should be playing in thebackground as Perry (ungracefully) shambols away from his Presidential bid.

  • great song, well done!!!

  • You know how you feel when you fall in love?

Somehow, that's how I feel listening to this song.

  • You suck me in every time. And this time without a single guitar or drum. A perfect song. Loved it. The orchestration sounded great.

  • I can't help but compare this song to some of Danny Elfmans scores, which is a huge compliment in my opinion. Love it.

  • Jack. You are amazing. The Orchestration is amazing.

  • this suck, bye xD

  • @taniatuning like your english?

  • Is it wrong that that violinist gives me an immense erection?

  • @e2h2tony

No. After all he is a mad cunt.

  • @e2h2tony nothing is wrong unless it is a child or an animal ..

  • Jack,

I really like the orchestral sound that you're embracing these days. I have yet to find a song that doesn't hit me right at home. Keep up your work. It's greatly appreciated. Come to western Kentucky, please?

    -Bree

  • WOW

  • take your time

  • So after listening to this a ton of times on youtube, I finally bought it but was bummed when I discovered you didn't have that solo at the end. It makes sense, but I just loved it at the end, so haunting and whistle worthy :D - Nevertheless, amazing work Jack. You obviously have a knack for this, and we all can see you love it :D

  • @MrAwesome2956 i know im in love with that type of haunting trumpet sound. theres some of that vibe in the score for the video game "red dead redemption" too

  • Jack Conté rocks!! always

  • The cello guy is sooo into it! i love it!

  • Need to train my hand to be faster at clicking so i can create an endless loop of this song >.>

  • lovin this shit! and all your other stuff. keep it up!

  • Caught the live performance on UStream tonight. Fantastic work, and sounds just as polished live, even given the web streaming dampening the quality. Bravo sir!

  • Jack, this is amongst my favorites that you've sung. I wish you and Nataly would sing a duet, some time. That would be loverly... :D

  • *excellence ! Love it Jack, keep up the amazing work :D

  • This is brilliant ! It has such a haunting, ghostly feel to it... It's so fantastic ! I've always been a sucker for minor keys, but this has true exce

  • Jack needs more views!

  • Jack, how to have seemingly unlimited resources of musical friends?

  • WTF!¡ Who dislikes Jack Conte's songs/videos?

  • @jaron87floyd Dead men walking.

  • Jack, you're an inspiration and you have shown me what is possible. Thankyou for being such a fantastic creative force and sharing it with all of us.

  • I listen to this and i cant say anything bad about it its awsome i love it ur a genius

  • Jack come to Canada, we all love you here! Specifically Alberta or Saskatchewan, I live in Sask right now, but I'd go home to Alberta to see you play!

  • This is great all around!

  • Beautiful arranging Jack!!

  • Brilliant piece of music, Jack. Kudos.

  • Thumbs if you saw Natalie at 2:14 :D

  • @mattdot666 ummm... isn't that lauren?

  • @deadeaded Could be but when I looked I thought she looked more like Nat with a different hairstyle. Nataly used to dye her hair a lot and it's a lot longer now but I'm probably wrong.. :|

  • you are a monster

  • sounds like something from a tim burton movie, i love it

  • This is fantastic!

This song gives me almost the same feelings as The Alan Parsons Project - Old And Wise. Sad and beautiful. I used to listen to it ... so many decades ago...

  • hey man! can you ship to Mexico???

  • I had a similar feeling when watching this video from when I watched "A Nightmare Before Christmas"

  • Hi Jack,

How do you get rid of the hissing on the vocal tracks? I've tried messing around with the noisegate on garageband but maybe I'm just not doing it right?

    Cheers

    Sunny

  • @motm90 Try recording with a different mic or switch to XLR if you're using something else.

  • @Evilhamster95 - I can't afford a different mic, but I'm running an SM57, brand new through an XLR, I think it's probably just that I need a bit more practice with the processing. Thanks though :-)

  • Love everything you guys do! Long time fan. OK, completly off subject...the trumpet player...cute cub! Keep up the good works guys!

  • I'm in love with the cello player!!

  • Jack, that was different really really different and I dug it six ways from Sunday. Thanks for the music!!!!

  • yeesss!!!! ive been waiting for this videosong to come out on youtube ever since i became obsessed with it when i saw it on hey its pomplamoose!!!!!!!!

  • JACK!

  • This is one of my favorites Jack. I've lost count of how many times I've replayed it.

  • Thumbs up if you repeated the video at 1:33 at least once!

  • I have a question: Does the everything button on your web site also include VS4?

  • Damn Jack, it gets better every time! Thank you.

  • This one is AMAZING.. to me it has a 'toy story' feel to it, yet it has such an overbearing ominous tone to it. amazing. favorited, liked, and shared!

  • you are the best

  • Bellisimo!

  • Is that Judgement Day?!

  • There is a simple beauty here, the purity of just watching musicians play their instruments, nothing snazzy or tricky, with a lovely arrangement and an understated and thoughtful lyric and melody. A wonderful creation all the way around. Bravo!

  • very nice, i thoroughly enjoying watching you grow as an artist :D

  • Great tune, man. You're officially becoming a genius.

  • This is great man, I'm glad you liked my song Real Talk, alot of your fans said you brought them there. Hope all is well, stay up

    -An0maly

  • This is so great...

  • Id rather see More of Jack's music than a video on how to make Video songs. Jack is a musician and a good one at that, so let's let him do what he does best and go else where for video editing/post production :)

On another note, i think this is one my favourite pieces, nice work!

  • I feel like he already shows us everything. It's a transparent process by design. Love the arrangement on this. Ghostly reprise at the end is fantastic.

  • Strong!

  • So Jack, are you using Final Cut Pro/Express for video editing? Or is it an Adobe product? Heck, it might just as easily be Avid...

  • Oboe players rule!!!

  • This is as enjoyable to me as elanor rigbe and has very good production and recording.

  • This song has been in my head all week!!! (and on my iPod) Such a beautiful, beautiful piece! Love it!!!

  • OHHH I WAS WAITING FOR THIS.

  • Being trying to order the book + physical cd from amazon.com, but apparently they can't accept an irish address in any format :(

Which is odd because I have ordered and shipped books from .com before.

  • Best lyrics you've ever written.

  • Estupendo Jack!!!

  • Love it Jack.. keep the faith.

  • dude... you are ridiculous (in a good way)...

  • nice wrok. Does the food there come on a tray and thru a door slot?

  • your music is freaking cool. another kind of music .. not the usual pop/rock music .. i love this :D

  • I actually agree with everyone that a "How-to" video would be amazing. I would really appreciate it. I understand the "copycat" problem, but I can think of tons of great YouTube artists that are only behind because of poor quality and inefficacious videos.

Anyways, the real reason I'm here is to listen(Awesome video btw)...but hey, you know what else would be great? A cover of Clock Opera's "Belongings". You'd do it well!

  • so I will admit I didn't read all the comments - but I feel like the videosong skills that Jack has are part of his art and why he's unique. He figured it out somehow, because he has the skill and wanted to, if others want to do that - no one is stopping them... Don't "copy" Jack - do your own thing.

  • Interesting and beautiful!!!!

  • that was... incredible

  • Beautiful, simply beautiful. I love the melancholy melody/harmonies of this, how the instruments you chose blends so well together and complement the music/arrangement, and combined musicality of everyone involved. Kudos all!

  • loving it!!!!

  • This was beautiful and chilling.

  • you're a beast...

  • JACK, HERE'S A SUGGESTION! (I hope I got your attention) Make a video on the process of making videosongs, like the entire process from beginning to end and various tips you gathered through the years, I bet it would help lotsa people and make utube a better place, this is a very exciting medium.

    k thnx bye

  • @DespinaKalp

duh, just noticed everybody's suggesting the same thing. Oh well...

  • sounds more tin hat / tin hat trio inspired to me! :)

  • This song is ridiculously fun to sing! :)

  • :D !

  • Just one thing. The video title should read "Jack Conte-BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF MUSIC/INCREDIBLE ART VideoSong"

  • @SomethingCleverable rolls off the tongue smoother than swear words, agreed, it definitely should have been the title.

  • Just a beautiful piece. You have a vision...

  • This is fantastic. I love the oboe in this... and that's coming from someone who is generally opposed to oboe(no offense, it's just not my thing...).

Anyhow, this was awesome, I loved it.

  • it almost sounds like the lyrics are a mix of the new Alis in Wonderland movie.

  • I'm not sure why everyone is just asking for instructions on how to make a video song: that's like asking how to write a computer program or draw well. It's much too broad a question to fit into one youtube video, but the most important aspects are probably self-teaching, trial, error, and LOTS of practice. Get a camera, use a computer and some editing software, and JUST TRY.

  • @EbonyShadow07

Imho, these guys arent asking "instructions" but more for advice from some1 who obviously has the know-how. Such a video could save them lots of time wasted in trial and error, which they could invest in really being creative. It would also enhance the quality of their work. Jack is such a sweet and inspirational guy after all, we would all love to see him share some of his "behind the scenes" secrets and dos and donts, even if we're not videosongers ourselves. Jack, go for it!

  • By the way, Jack, since you're interested in stop motion animation you should definitely check the works of Trnka (his masterpiece imho is "The Hand", search for it in dailymotion though, as the utube clip is out of sync) and Svankmajer.

You' re in for a treat!

Once again, congrats on your work!

MAKE A "HOW TO MAKE A VIDEOSONG" VIDEO!!!!!!!!

I HOPE I WON'T HAVE TO SAY THIS AGAIN, YOUNG MAN!

  • Beatles, anyone?

  • The title "Off With His Head" reminds me of Alice in Wonderland (The Red Queen)

  • lovelovelove!

  • WEST COAST TOUR? Please? Come to LA.

  • I really wish I could read music to place this song

  • Amazing!

  • You should be famous, I mean VERY famous. I mean REALLY REALLY INFINITE FAMOUS. You're a music genius

  • love it

  • Qué bueno Jack, tío, eres un músico flipante.

  • jack

    so so so amazing

  • why dislikes? -.-" 6 fu***** dislikes!!!

  • Jack has a great voice. Reminds me of Elliot Smith.

  • Wonderful as usual! I can't stop listening to it.

I can say that this one is also CONTEgious :)

  • you. are. amazing!

  • I just jizzed a little out of my ears

  • ehm...beautyfull ;-)

  • Man, I noticed another zillion or so fans have asked you so far, but you should really do a "how to make a videosong" video. You should share your expertise on things like recording different instruments, sound mastering, synchronizing sound and picture, editing, etc. If anyone can, it's you!

  • @tozios poor jack. i love his music and his vids , but people keep asking him how to

make them, and now how to record, how to master etc etc. that's a pretty big request- I imagine

he needs to get some sleep sometimes, and that he's got plenty to do in simply making

this music and these vids. FWIW (and NB I am NOT an experienced video maker at all)

I would have thought some key points in doing vids based on

film of musicians as they do

the actual takes are the boring but essential ones ctd

  • @echo680 of (a) always having camera running

when you ae going for a take (b) using some sinc device or just a a traditional clapperboard for film while audio recording is already running..so that syncing

vid to audio later on is then easy, because each file

will show the same "mark" and (c) SAVING

FILES WITH USEFUL NAMES eg "guitar

audio take 32"and "guitar video take 32" so that once the audio is assembled, then adding the

video should be less time - consuming - because you ctd

  • @echo680 don't have to search thru the vids for the

takes you used. I have wasted too much time listening back to files

I've called ...say "great guitar.wav" only to find that it wasn't, and should've been binned

in the first place..or files named , say "A1" which

don't tell me if it was a guitar part or a bass part, for example. mundane, but time-saving.

  • @tozios thats a huge ask >< you be better doing a college or university degree :P it takes years of experience to reach this level of both audio engineering and musicianship. I doubt its possible to teach you through a few videos

  • @tozios If he were to do that, then we'd suddenly have 50 clones of his (and Nataly's style.) They developed their own style; I say you let them keep it.

  • One helluva talented mofo. The sole trumpet doing the melody at the end sounds awesome. Was that intentional ie written in, or did you tag in on the end for the video outro?

  • sounds one part up beatles Elenore rigby, another part danny elfman. I LOVE it. :)

  • @loudspeaker003 I was totally thinking about the Danny Elfman qualities, especially within the melody! =]

  • Epic beard.

  • pretty!

  • Has a sorta Danny Elfman fell to it.. I love it.

  • wow ok my new fav sharing with facebook. i swear you have to be in a university for music or something. your rad.

  • Reminds me of something off of Elvis Costello's "Spike" album.

  • absolutely chilling

  • A lot of the songs you cover remind me of Tim Burton things. Like they're Tim Burton-esque. I think it's cool.

  • Pre-shush vs Pre-see-us ... I dunno ! Great song either way !

  • Bravo!

  • I love your beard :)

  • BRILLIANT JACK

  • definately hear the Danny Elfman influence. Beautiful Man!

  • audiosurf sent me here

  • This is fantastic! It reminds me a bit of Elliott Smith

  • bit ly/kWj0g9

  • Good track Jack Conte!

  • 5 people are deaf. this is fantastic.

  • the oboe sound soooo good in this song. Just weaving in and out... Great orchestration!!!

  • I hope to hear your music in cinemas someday.

  • Truly beautiful, Jack. Absolutely love it. Favorited!

  • Isn't that Danny Elfman for Nightmare?

  • Really excellent.....great song and lyrics + arrangement...Regards..Dave

  • Jack looks like Perry Cox from Scrubs in this video...

  • you can get this song for free in his facebook page... the secret mpfree =P

  • i wish i were you =)

  • A most excellent song. I enjoyed it a great deal. It almost sounds like it should be a part of a rock opera or something similar. I think you could come up with enough excellent stuff for that kind of thing as a video production. A musical video/movie with a full storyline completely created online in your style. Welding in parts from different musicians (young and old) recorded around the world. - Just a thought.

  • Dear Mr. Money bags is suppose to be next

  • he never ceases to surprise me, just when i thought i heard it all, he comes up with this gem. <3 Jack conte

  • Now..We know that the definition of a genius...

  • hey jack i if you could find maybe you could cover Crushcrushcrush by paramore and great video song

    :)

  • ahhhh - no matter what don't stop :)

  • i love the rythm
