my mom drives a ford escape, same year as this one. its up around 130k miles and needs new tires soon, but the chassis rattles like crazy, especially if the vehicle is idle and in Park or Drive. The problem was diagnosed as bad engine mounts but when she had them replaced the problem still keeps happening.
the materials on the door inserts and the passenger airbag are interesting..They are like a mix of hard and soft. they fool you. everything is firmly set in the escape, or tribute for that matter. I have no idea what that noise is..
The material isn't definitely hard like it is in my Grandmother's pilot.
As much as i hate the metallic painted plastic, i think it is of much better quality than has been since 06 with GM for example.
The ride is firm, yet not harsh like my grandfather's Volvo S70.
Escape's are nice! I do like the new ones with the floor shifter. Again I'm not at fan of the column shifter with the windshield wiper stalk below it.
I really enjoy those Ford cars especialy the 2008-2009 Ford Focus'. The engine that Ford put in it is amazing. That 1.9L I4 gets excelent gas milage and sounds pretty good. The 1.5L I4 in the old generation of Focus sounded good and got good gas milage, but the 2008-2009 is better.
I used to have a 2003 ford escape xlt and I loved it. I drove it everywhere for the longest time. I got hit from the side on a winter night driving home from work. It sucked ass losing that truck. It was my baby
is it a 4x4?? or is it a 4x2?? i have the escape's european twin brother - the maverick, 2002, with a 3.0 v6 engine, 4x4 of course, and it has a differential locking switch on the left of the ventilation switches. i know, that the maverick's after the face lifting in 2004 also don't have the switch.
@ELVISwejpl It's 4X2. I have the '03 4X4 version of this and the knob would be situated in the blank cutout area directly to the left of the A/C controls (the opposite side as the lighter).
I like the explorers better. I don't know why, they're both crap. My dad had a 99 ford explorer and two of the pistons wouldn't fire. What a weird car. It still felt manlier than this car I guess. This car just feels a little feminine to me. Not very "ford tough" if you ask me.
The Escape is a nice truck but the only thing I find kinda stupid is the location of the shifter. You could be driving along and wanna change the radio or the air temperature and the shifter either gets in the way or you could accidentally knock it into reverse or a low gear. Ford should have made a floor mounted shifter or made the thing shorter. Other than that, I like the truck and it's something I would drive. Thanks for the video Kyle. :)
@xavier1519 That sounds to me like interior panles were taken off at one point for a mod or repair or something and never put back on correctly. Ive been in a few of these things, never once did they creek like that.
For some reason, Ford's in general seem to pack on the miles! Could be a good thing, or a bad thing! My Dad's 01 Explorer had 150 miles when bought new, 9 years later, 134,850 miles! Well...Built Ford Tough is right!

Definitely. Especially the wee-little 4bangers that come in them. They seem so rugged looking.. The passat of SUV's.. hehe

lots of creaking in the background. something could be loose

I heard a lot of creaking in the interior. Was it the car or something loose inside?
xavier1519 2 years ago
I think so, idk what it was though, no tellin
saabkyle04 2 years ago
@xavier1519 I think the creaking sound is every time he hits a bump the camera on the tripod jiggles.
