Arlen Sphincter has lost...finally...rubbernecking will not be tolerated by the public voters. Like the song goes: "You got to stand for something, or you'll fall for anything/ You got to be your own man, not a puppet on a string" Obama's puppet is gone.
I'm so happy that Sphincter lost. It's poetic justice, and how ironic, after leaving the GOP for the Dems, that the Dems were the ones who threw him out!
He has been a tool of the establishment since as an ambitious young attorney for the Warren Commission he invented the single bullet theory that is the basis of the lone gunman cover-up for the conspiracy apparently involving LBJ, the CIA, J. Edgar Hoover, and the mob (Chicago, New Orleans, and Tampa branches) that killed Kennedy.
Very sad old man, he's so damn old and just doesn't want to leave, trying to hold on anyway he can. Hopefully in the upcoming election he will finally be done, he can fade off into obscurity with his goofy "Magic bullet theory". Nothing he ever did really made any sense!!!!!!
That fucker ARLEN SPECTER put forth the MAGIC BULLET THEORY during the JFK assassination hearings. Arlen Specter is an accomplice in the murder and the subsequent cover up of one of our best Presidents. Let's remind him of what he is everytime we see him.
I have a lot of respect for Arlen Specter. There is no point sitting with a party if it does not align with your principles. I do not blame him for leaving the Republican party which is not the party it once was.
Arlen Specter, faux defector, erector of THE Lie. How insane ya Pennslyvania to give him one more try. Back Joe Sestak 4 Senator.
Specter, author of the perverse "Magic Bullet" fabrication in the JFK assassination, committed treason as an accessory after the fact in covering up the murderous coup of Nov. 1963. He is undeserving of a single vote.
I may not agree with every vote Sestak has cast, but of the two, he is a veritable Pericles compared to Specter. Vote Sestak for Senator.
Specter has shown nothing but the will to follow power where ever it gose. Penn needs to get rid of this power whore. Where was he when people were losing homes and jobs Bitching about a football game. Yeah who needs a new job Specter dose.
I live in Pa, and I doubt I'll be voting for this douche, but voting for a Republican makes me cringe. I guess I'll vote for any 3rd party candidate out of principle.
So long Arlen Specter, you have misrepresented Pennsylvania for the last time. You can run from a party, but you cannot hide. We the people will elect a real representative: Pat Toomey. Those in PA who made the mistake of voting for you in 2004 now realize their mistake.
As much as the bailouts confuse and piss people off they were neccesary. Fiat is buying Chrysler. Chinese venture capitalists could have bought GM and who know what they would have done.
9/11 didnt happen on Clintons watch. Clinton tried to kill him anyway and was critized by the republican congress! After W had stolen the elction from Gore, Clinton pleaded with him to keep an eye on Bin Laden. W even recieved a national security report stating that Bin Laden was planning a attack on U.S. soil who was totally ignored by w resulting in 9/11. And where is Bin Laden? Didn`t W have 8 years to get him? So don`t come here with your fucking republican BULLSHIT! Get YOUR facts straight!
You would think the RepubliCON Party would ask for a FEDERAL BAILOUT due to their holding NO true VALUE anymore, embarrassing down-sizing, & being TOTALLY unsuccessful when it comes to having a say in ANY matters which reach the House or Senate Floor. (LOL)
"I intend to propose a rule change which would preclude a future recurrence of a Senators' change in parties in mid session, organizing with the opposition, to cause the upheaval which is now resulting."
The REPUBLICANS are incompetent as wartime leaders. Still worse, they can't even manage a nations economy. Even worse, as liars, they tell the nation untruths so baldfaced, that there's so many investigation, turning up so many cases of fraud, abuse, and outright corruption, that we'll NEED hundreds more lawyers, and probably some new prisons! These fools say that government is too big?! THEY WERE THE ONES WHO GREW THE GOVT SO HUGE IN 8 YRS. Man, these Republicans are PATHETIC LEADERS. Morons!
Oh really? You want to see poorly managed economies, go look up Jimmy Carter. You want to see poorly managed wars, go look at North Korea and Vietnam. Both wars were started by Democrats and mismanaged, I might add.
As for growing government, yes they did, I agree with you there. That's why I don't call myself a Republican or a Democrat. I'm to the right of both of these parties. The Republicans are a buncha Liberals and the Democrats are a buncha Socialists.
You want to see a true mismanaged economy, you can also look at Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Lyndon Johnson, and Jimmy Carter, all Democrats I might add.
Clinton was actually more Conservative than both Bushes on Economics, but he was a disaster on foreign policy. Obama is no Bill Clinton. In fact, Bill Clinton will even tell you that Obama's policies are a disaster.
And now, Dicendimes is trying, desperately, to equate the World Trade Center attack in 93, with the humiliating, and despicably-huge, US homeland attack, on multiple targets, in 2001. The coordinated attack by Al Qaeda on 9/11 was successful because the Occupant in Office, George W Bush, was amazingly INCOMPETENT. What's worse, the moron doubled-down, and ATTACKED THE WRONG COUNTRY, in a war the next President HAS TO FINISH!! Bumbling Republicans idiots who should NEVER be in charge again!!
Bush prevented another 9/11 from taking place in Los Angeles, but you see, the media will never report on an event that was prevented from happening, it will only report if something does happen. Bush is hardly my favorite President, my favorites are Coolidge and Reagan. Bush was a Fiscal Socialist. Any guy that says he has to kill the Free Market to save it, is not a President I like. I only give him credit when it's due and he kept the country safe. Democrats lost us the last war, Vietnam
Lastly, remember people. IT WASN'T BUSH'S FAULT. HE WASN'T PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES FROM 2001-2009. ALSO, THE REPUBLICANS WERE NOT THE MAJORITY FROM 2001-2006. Dicendimes would argue, "SO WHAT?" That doesn't mean it's their fault for ANYTHING they did. It was the Democrats fault. Sure, they had no power at that time, but hey, it doesn't mean that we can't SAY it was their fault. Come on, you folks in the PUBLIC ARE IDIOTS, and the GOP are SMARTER than you. Credibility? The GOP has tons!??
Yes, It was not Bush's fault. It was Reagens fault, he removed regulations, one of the major causes of the "Recession" Reagenomics pretty much screwed the economy. He allowed people to spend money they did not have Via Removing Regulations, and made the rich richer. But Democrats went along with it, so it his hard to really blame one party.
What happened between 2001-2006 that was so bad, besides Katrina? The Economic Meltdown happened with Democrats in the majority from 2006 - 2008. It's easy to sit there and blame the President, but you can't back up nothing you say, alls you can say is it was on his watch, that somehow being the President means he takes the fault for every person who slips on a banana peel. You are ridiculous. Back up what you say, you witless piece of shit. Explain how Bush's policies hurt the country.
You got another FDR in office, Obama is the FDR of 2009.
Trickle Down Economics doesn't work? So tell me something what does work? Does Socialism work? Does Keynesian Economics work? How does creating deficits remove debt? How does big massive government control fix the economy?
When people go to work and get paychecks, where do you think that money comes from? Doesn't the company have to make money at the top in order for the workers on the way down to receive their money too?
George W care about me? Hmm. Does Barack Obama care about me? Are you a fuckin' idiot? Do they even know my name? I don't want the government to caaaaaare about me, I want the government off my back. Maybe you don't understand where I'm coming from, cause you're a stupid Commie who tosses Olbermann's salad and gets a tingle up his leg when Obama speaks like Softball. Some of us like to govern ourselves and don't want the government telling us what to do, b/c we think for ourselves, try it
Barack Obama is currently nationalizing the auto industry, the health care industry, the financial industry, the media, energy industry, etc. and alls you can do is sit there and bitch about George W. Bush. Obama is spending this country into oblivion with a 2 Trillion Dollar Deficit and more spending on the way. He is taxing, borrowing, and printing money and creating an environment for out-of-control inflation and setting us up for another economic meltdown in the future. You wait and see.
When one has to clean up after someone else's mess, it's no fun. More to the point, when the next President is handed the responsibility of cleaning up multiple, acute crises of the former President, that becomes the new priority. That's the objective reading. But what dicendimes WANTS TO IMPART, is also to say that the guy cleaning up the mess... it was HIS FAULT! I know, I know, it sounds crazy, but that's the talking point of D. Obama made Bush create Bush's mess for Obama to fix. Huh??
Obama was one of the lawyers who litigated against the banks and forcing them to make the loans. So, yes, Obama has a major role in the economic crisis. Bush cleaned up after Clinton's mess. He inherited a recession as well from Clinton when the Internet Bubble Bursted and the Nasdaq hasn't been quite the same since. Bush inherited a weak National Defense from Clinton too. Clinton attacked countries around the world, except the people who declared war on us. Obama is making things worse.
Obama is a radical Socialist Reformer. Even Democrats regret voting for this clown. Obama loves things the way they are, remember, Rahm Emanuel said, never let a crisis go to waste. You're gonna see more crisis taking place in the future, they need them to grow government faster than what we Americans would normally allow. The government uses fear and crisis to take away the liberty of its people. Bush did it with 9/11, Obama is doing it now too. Obama is Bush on steroids.
Bush Bush Bush Bush! Bush Bad! Obama Good! Republicans Bad! Democrats Good! Capitalism Bad! Socialism Good! Free Market Bad! Government Good! Bush Bad! Bush Eeeeeeevil! Bush! Bush! Bush! I hate Bush! Bush Bush Bush!
And no offense dude but this capitalism that is existing right now is not true capitalism. Bush along with Obama supported the bail out. Capitalism is about the free market where government doesn't get involved.
So it seems to me that these corporations don't want the government to get involved when they are trying to regulate them...but as soon as they run into trouble they want the government to rush in and save their asses. Hmmm, doesn't seem like a true free market economy to me.
The Free Market died in 2008. The Corporations are paying the price for going to the government and begging for bailouts, as you can see, the government is now managing their businesses, which is what Free Market People like myself have been warning about if you let government run the economy.
This doesn't just happen with corporations, it happens with individuals as well. When you go on welfare and depend on the government, they can tell you what to do and you can't say no.
So folks, the reality here is, if you DISCUSS REALITY POLITICS or just reality in general, with a Republican like dicendimes, you're apt to get a bit confused. Up is down. Black is white. Failure is success. Chaos is heaven. Job losses are economic gains. Housing foreclosures are home opportunities, massive fiscal debt is cash in my pocket, and anything written on paper that couldn't be shredded, was... It was... Clinton's fault. Um.. Yeh. That would be, ten years ago. A decade. Sure.
If you listen carefully and objectively to the denial-obsfucation-explanations of dicendimes, he NEVER admits reality. Never ACCEPTS ONE BIT OF BLAME, for ANYTHING Bush did. Ha. Like an alcoholic, with a cirrotic liver, in the emergency room, who was just told by the doctor that they can do nothing, he will die in an hour... Dicendimes CONTINUES TO BE IN FULL DENIAL. Katrina? A success. Torture? Fantastic. Iraq war? Success! Economy? Booming! Job losses? It was Clintons fault. Of course it is!
Katrina was the only failure of the Bush Administration. Torture? You sissy, Waterboarding ain't torture, we do it to our own military men, are you saying we torture our military guys? Waterboarding saved L.A. from planes flying into one of their buildings, moron. The Iraq War was a success, but idiots like you can't admit it. Our brave military men and women did a wonderful job. The Economy was good 7 out of the 8 years Bush was in office, but you just like to focus on the last 3 months.
Bush bad! Bush took my welfare check! Bush told me to get a job! Bush told me to pay for my own health care! Bush told me to quit being a slob! Bush killed my friends in Al-Qaeda, and tortured them with waterboarding. Bush killed my idol Saddam Hussein. Bush never put gasoline in my car! Bush never wiped my ass! Bush never sent people over to wash my dishes, mow my lawn, and mop my floors. Bush never gave me a house or a car and told me I had to earn it. Damn that George Bush.
"Despite promises from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) that Specter (Pa.) would retain his seniority after switching parties, Specter will not keep his committee seniority on any of the five committees that he serves on and will be the junior Democrat on all but one — the chambers Special Committee on Aging."
Arlen, you should at least been kissed before you got screwed. I hope Obama threw in a White House mouse pad and a key chain with pic of Air Force One flying over NY.
Youve already proved that your knee-jerk reaction to almost any query, question, or debate point, is to instantly hurl insults. That's your calling card, Dicendimes. You NEVER acknowledge a mistake, only switch the subject, or begin a new topic, when the previous one becomes too difficult to hold (eg, Row v Wade). But by being sensitive to suggestions to research, and saying you DONT NEED TO LEARN, implies a obtuse and arrogant thinking. Pathetic actually. But understandable. You're a Bushie.
That's like the pot calling the kettle black. You've made absolutely no points, no factual arguments, everything you've said has been a knee-jerk response. Bush this, Bush that. When in doubt, blame Bush. The country could be on fire right now b/c of Obama's policies and you'd still be blaming Bush. In 4 years, are you still gonna be blaming Bush?
Changing the topic? That's all you do. I said a baby has the right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness.
Dicendimes, I love that Dems have selected amnesia. They forget that THEY started the WMD's in Iraq lie in the 90's and that they therefore agreed with invading Iraq and punching terrorists to get them to spill the beans. THEY were in control of banking and finances. Now they act holier than though. Complete and utterly useless COWARDS!
You're 100% correct. I even have footage of Clinton saying it in 1998. Even Clinton explains why we should attack Iraq specifically and not other countries which also possess WMDs and that was b/c, Saddam has actually used his WMDs against other countries and even his own people. The clip is on YouTube. When I watched it, I thought to myself, damn, Clinton lied, people died? Too funny. I have another clip where in 1992, Al Gore ripped H.W. Bush for not attacking Iraq hard enough.
Republicans. Leaders of the nation, they are not. Protectors of the homeland? Absolutely NOT. Representing only 20% of the voters, these folks were in power for the last 8 yrs, and who, like dicendimes say, ITS NOT THEIR FAULT. None of it. The buck stops elsewhere. Like a child who just broke the cookie jar saying IT WASNT THEIR FAULT. Trying to explain to them that 9/11/2001 was nine months into the Bush administration..? No, it WASN'T, argues dicendimes! It was the Clinton administration. ??
Clinton spent 8 years cutting military defense and ignored Al-Qaeda's attacks and ignored their declaration of war on the United States. 9/11 was planned for years ahead, long before George W. Bush was President, if you actually researched it. The borders were very weak under Clinton, the drugs were being smuggled, and the terrorists were already in the United States training for their attack on 9/11. 9/11 was executed during Bush's term, but was clearly plotted when Clinton was in office.
Bill's fault for September 11, 2001? Spoken like a true Bushie, dicendimes. Oh, it must hurt so bad to have to swallow that fact. I bet your stomach cramps every time you have to admit that stain. But whatever lie you manufacture, whatever blame you assign, we all know WHO was in the Oval Office on 9/11/01. It was a Republican! President Bush was Commander-in-Chief. You can pound your fists, swear, hurl epithets, but HISTORY RECORDS that GEORGE W. BUSH FAILED AMERICA IN ITS MOST DESPERATE HOUR!
Well, the World Trade Center was attacked in 1993, and who was in office back then? Why it was Bill Clinton? What did he do about it? Hmm, nothing. Bush actually went after the guy, Clinton did nothing. So who failed the country? Oh yah, that's right, Bush bad, Bush eeeeeeeeevil, Clinton Gooooooooood! Democrat Goooooooooood!
medartist, Republicans did protect the homeland. How many times were we attacked after 911? And you refer to 8 yrs. of power of Reps, but if you picked up a newspaper, Dems were in power in BOTH Senate and House of Reps. They ran banking into ground by standing up for GSEs. Don't forget that "buck stops" with both Dems and Reps b/c they voted to support Bush. I tell ya; selected amnesia.
Now that you bring up "the buck stops here", why are Obama and Dems trying to blame Reps for torture when they went along with it in recently declassified documents. They included PElosi, Graham, John Murtha, Levin, Rockerfeller, and others. I tell you; Democrats are big COWARDS b/c they don't accept responsibility for their votes and you and the liberal media only selectively lay blame. COWARDS!!
It was a joke with the houses. You couldn't even get that, dicendimes. You really take yourself much too seriously. As for getting some basic education on the subprime-mortgage/financial market collapse, theres lots of independent, NON-PARTISAN,stuff out there. And excellent one is on FRONTLINE, called Inside the Meltdown. Also, I recommend, This American Lifes The Giant Pool of Money hour-long episode. I will defer commenting anymore on this, until youve given yourself a basic education.
I have 2 College Degrees, I majored in Criminal Justice and Business, so I'm pretty damn sure I'm far more educated than you are, so you can go fuck yourself when it comes to basic education.
I know what caused the meltdown, b/c I followed this meltdown, it's my job, I'm an investment entrepreneur, what the fuck do you do?
My point is, the government forced these banks to make loans they never would make in the past, but they promised them insurance, that's why they are bailing the banks out.
Government was responsible. Repealing Glass-Steagal had jack shit to do with it. It's a weak argument from weak-minded people that Glass-Steagal had anything to do with this. Banks don't just lend money for the sake of lending money. Even a bank has limited resources, the only way they could just make loans like that is with unlimited resources, which is practically the Federal Government who can print, borrow, and tax to raise money. These banks were insured by the government to make loans
Very defensive, dicendimes. And arrogant! I simply suggest that you take a look at some factual (and well-presented) information regarding the timelines and evidence on the 2008 the subprime-mortgage meltdown, in terms of how it brought down the financial sector and economy, and you scream, NO, I DONT WANT TO LEARN. I KNOW IT ALL. OK. I guess Im presented with a child who says to those experts out there, that I just want to scream and rant. OK, now we know your true intention. Crybaby.
I already have looked at the facts, evidence, and timeline. Alls you're giving me is that the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999 is what caused this. You never answered how this particular act is the reason for the economic meltdown. I have explained to you in details what happened. Banks made these loans, they were forced by the government, and they were insured by the government. Are you disputing this or not?
Where does Gramm-Leach-Bliley, which consolidated the functions of banks fit in?
I'm not arrogant or defensive. I'm beginning to lose my patience, cause you're such a damn blockhead. I'm sick of repeating myself. Either debate me on this with facts and reason, or just don't reply anymore.
Theres NO DEBATE when Bush-Apologists REFUSE to admit the obvious. Simply put, dicendimes, it amazes me, and most anyone that does a superficial review of the last 8 yrs, that anyone, anyone, could say that that performance was acceptable, successful, without failures. As a matter of fact, to imply, that anyone who finds the dozens of fiascos, that Bush presided over, was OK, is dilusional. Obama's now wading through those failures. It's you that's badly in need of a bit of Partisan-exorcism.
Who says I'm a Bush Apologist? I don't apologize for nothing. I don't carry water for nobody. I've mentioned Bush's failures many times on this channel if you actually had your head out of your ass, you would have read them. Obama is doubling down on Bush's mistakes, moron. Get your head out of the sand and actually start listening to the news and maybe you'll see what the hell is going on in your country.
Bush deficits = $450 Billion, Obama deficits = $2 Trillion, explain that one.
And so GRAMM and the REPUBLICANS OPENED THE FLOODGATES by killing Glass-Steagall. Then, with the wolf in the henhouse, they saw the housing bubble begin, and INSTEAD OF ACTING NORMALLY, AND FOLLOWING THE RULES THAT WOULD CONSIDER RISK WHEN LENDING, the REPUBLICAN FAT-CATS DECIDED TO CHEAT. TO BREAK THE RULES AND MAKE THEIR BANKS INTO WALL STREET GAMBLING HOUSES, as they lent MY MONEY out to EVERYONE. EVEN CORPSES. So they could buy 10 houses. McCain had 8. But OMG, these pigs can't HAVE ENOUGH!
McCain owns his homes and has money, he never needed a loan to buy them. Cyndi McCain's family is in the Big Beer Industry.
No, the Federal Government wanted to put poor people into homes, instead of being renters. They wanted poor people to be able to get loans. For years, the age old Liberal Argument has been, what's the point of loans, when only rich people could get them? Well, no you know why, cause the rich can actually pay back the loans. The poor can't. This bubble bursted.
Because homes were INCREASING IN VALUE, the banks didnt care WHO they lent money too. In fact, THEY WERE RUNNING OUT OF CONVENTIONAL BORROWERS!! They had none left. So what did they do? They relaxed rules, to lend to the risky. Moreso, they basically gave money away, thinking that if anything went wrong, THEY COULD TAKE THE HOUSE, which was acruing in value. Yes, these REPUBLICAN VULTURES could care less, as long as they make MORE MONEY. And killed the nations financial markets and economy.
No, they couldn't just take the house. That's what you Libs don't understand. You think the banks never accounted into factor that price of these homes could drop? No, what happened was, they were insured by the Federal Government and forced to make these loans and if anything bad happened, the Federal Government would cover the banks. The Federal Government doesn't explain it, b/c they don't want to take any blame for this, but they created the problems through legislation.
And remember, WHENEVER YOU GET CLOSE TO STATING THE TRUTH, these dicendimes and frankies will ACT DUMB. I don't understand how deregulation of the rules, by throwing out checks/balances and oversight could hurt? Oh, I don't know why banks, who are very conservative with their investments, and investment houses, who typically take on risk, would be a problem if they marry up? Oh, I don't want to believe that this could compromise our national financial health. Oh, I'm a Republican moron. YES!
When the government forces banks to make loans that they otherwise would never make, a massive bubble tends to build for a while and then bursts, when the bill comes due and these deadbeats don't pay. The problem was the oversight, the people who did the checks and balances were the ones who created the problem and that includes Chris Dodd, Barney Frank, Franklin Reigns, and more. Ya idiot.
STILL, you act as if you cant fathom the obvious. It was the BANKS and MORTGAGE BROKERS who lead the charge you dolt. THEY WERE THE ONES WHO INVENTED THE NO-INCOME, NO-CREDIT CHECK, loans. My god, youre an idiot. You think that ANYONE COULD APPLY for a loan in 1990 and get it without the basics?? Well, in 2002 on, you could. Thanks to INVESTMENT BANKS/CAPITAL LENDERS throwing the rules out, and creating these moronic loans, in order to make cash up front! You are A COMPLETE IMBICILE.
Really? The Banks and Capital Lenders just threw the rules out? Would you lend somebody with no income, no credit check, etc. any of your money? There were laws enacted where they actually had to make these loans and in return, they were insured by the Federal Government, you fuckin' idiot. This is the Community Reinvestment Act that created this. The problem is, the debt got so big, even the Federal Government couldn't insure all this debt. You get it, moron?
Lastly, as with the two FAILED WARS, their FAILURE TO PROTECT US ON 9/11/2001, the FAILING economy they dumped on Obama, not withstanding the FAILURE of bank lending, the millions LOSING their jobs, millions LOSING their homes, thousands of business FAILURES, auto industry MELTDOWNS, and the TRILLIONS in debt, etc... The Republicans want YOU TO FORGET that they responsible for it all. ON THEIR WATCH. Dont forget that, people. Dont ever! Yes, Obama OWNS their failures, and has to clean it up.
The GOP has been up front with the lie, and its worked.. that Fannie and Freddie were the reason why the banking mess happened. Incredibly ALL FACT PROVE THE CONTRARY. The reason WHY the sub-prime mess occurred was because of the REPUBLICAN DEREGULATION OF THE FINANCIAL MARKETS/MARRYING THE BANKS TO THE INVESTMENT HOUSES. They did this to have access to billions in capital from banks to play Las Vegas with our money. BLAME THE REPUBLICAN CEOs and GRAMM. Check out FRONTLINE, MSNBC, WIKIpedia.
When asked for THEIR PROPOSALS for a BUDGET, the GOP screws it up, making a MOCKERY of themselves on National TV, as they hold up a thin pamphlet of talking points WITH NO NUMBERS as their budget alternative. Ha. This is the same party that JUST RECENTLY OWNED THE WHITE HOUSE FOR 8 YRS. And here, after failing to fix the economic mess ON THEIR WATCH, offer ZERO answers. ZERO! An amazing underscoring of the clownish party with NO LEADERS who can just rant and say NO. Pathetic, despirate, sad.
So when the GOP, the PARTY OF NO, the PARTY OF GROSS INCOMPETENCE, the ones who CREATED ALL THE MESS were facing now, tell us that they KNOW FOR A FACT how to fix the messes they couldnt fix on their watch, and KNOW FOR A FACT that all the debt they piled up, is actually Obamas debt, and they can, further, KNOW FOR A FACT that their projections of ANYTHING, ARE A FACT, you have to ask yourself...who do these bumbling idiots think theyre kidding? They consistently got it WRONG for 8 years!
Do you know why he passed these laws? So he could guarantee voters for future democratic candidates! Clintons cronies figured only the poor would apply for these dangerous mortages. His administration would take credit for putting low income voters in houses, thereby guaranteeing voters in key voting districts that democrats love: LOW INCOME, INNER CITY, HIGH POPULATION AREAS.
Please open up a history book, get an education, and stop wasting my time
Frankie, don't waste your time, facts are meaningless when you're debating a drone like Medartist. Nothing you say or any fact you point out is going to change his mind or sway him. This guy drinks the Kool-Aid of the Democrat Party and his only response is not an actual argument, it's just another Liberal Talking Point. If you beat him on the economy, he'll switch to talking about the war, if you beat him on the war, he'll switch the debate to social issues, and so on. Kool-Aid Drinker.
Blaming the DEMs? Glass-Steagall was repealed by 3 GOP SENATORS, Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act in 1999, during A REPUBLICAN MAJORITY CONGRESS in the Clinton admin. Gramm for YRS wanted to marry the large capital banks with investment houses. He finally succeeded and began HUGE GAMBLING BY WALL STREET/BANKS. Clinton only asked for more help with homeowners in HUD. But that didnt include the DEREG of the RULES by Bush, and later by the bank CEOs when they needed more borrowers to buy up their MBSs.
Exactly how did the Gramm-Leach,Bliley Act create the massive debt left by these bad loans and mortgages? Wasn't it Bill Clinton who signed the Gramm-Leach,Bliley Act into law? Uh oh.
Please, name some of these deregulation rules set by Bush. Was one of them Sarbanes-Oxley? Ha ha ha ha.
Read the Legislative history. You don't get it, dicendimes. IT WAS A REPUBLICAN MAJORITY CONGRESS. Get it? Don't you get it? Obviously not. Clinton, in return for signing the bill, got an allowance that allowed more homeownership. It's called COMPROMISE. Something that you Republicans don't yet get. WHAT I CONTINUE TO SAY, IS THAT THIS DEREGULATION WAS DRAFTED BY THE REPUBLICANS, and voted and passed BY THE REPUBLICANS. You can laugh all you want, but the GOP CAUSED THIS FAILURE. Amazingly.
Ah ok, so Clinton, who actually signed it, he bears no blame from you Lefties on the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. I get it. You never answered my question though. How did the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act cause the problems in our economy? Answer my fucking question and quit dodging. If you can't explain this, then it was not the Republican's fault. I can explain to you how the Community Reinvestment Act created this problem, and Frankie has already done it. Put up or shut up.
There you Republicans go again! Still acting dumb. No wonder you cant lead OR govern. Glass-Steagall, or the Banking Act of 1933, defined the rules of Banking once and for all. That is, banks for lending and those for investment were SEPARATED. Sort of like you as the cokehead, and I having the cocaine. They NEED TO BE SEPARATED. But with GLB Act, you put the cokehead inside the room with the cocaine! And we got the HUGE TRAINWRECK of the MBSs, CDOs, and the fiscal MELTDOWN of 2008. Get it?
Wow, that has to be THE WORST explanation, I ever heard. I can tell you're not an Economics Major that's for damn sure. You still did not explain how it created the economic meltdown. You just said that there has to be separation for investments and lending. Why must there be separation? How did consolidating the financial institutions lead to the crisis which is banks being stuck with toxic assets from bad loans and mortgages? Answer the question, seriously.
Yea, know, I was just about to ask you if this guy is serious. He doesn't even offer any facts, just mocks everything I type. Aren't liberals supposed to have more tolerance for others than we conservatives? Whatever, I'm at work right now, If I had someone smarter to debate with it would make the day go by a whole lot faster
The only legitimate option to begin a reconstruction of our economy was to save these companies from financial ruin. This is part of the ebb and flow of economics, when you are in a recessionary period the government must send money into the economy to stimulate buying. Now if you Conservatives have a better idea after you destroyed the economy for the past 8 years fighting 2 unnecessary wars we are all ears. But don't preach fiscal conservatism and practice the exact opposite.
Lets just say the wars were over oil would the people buy it? We have a vested interest in protecting those oil fields. More wars were fought under dem pres than rep. Does that matter? Not really but it's a misconception that repubs love war and dems love peace.
Special privileges are not the desired outcome. Equal rights are the main goal here. You can't call them "special privileges" if there are no privileges to begin with. By the way women's rights, gay rights, and minority rights are inclusionary into human rights not separate entities.
Specter jumps over to the Dems. I say good riddance. If we are to continue to have a two-party system in this country, we would be better served in having representatives who stand for their beliefs. Mr. Specter has been a 'Republican' for decades, yet votes closely with Democrats and wants to save his ass in the next election. Fine with us, you traitorous bastard. You haven't done much for the GOP lately, sir. Good riddance.
But that's OK, dicendimes and frankiebaby725. I suppose with your Republican party hurtin' BAD, and in a crisis of JUST WHO IS THE GOP PARTY ANYMORE? I can understand why you're angry, bitter, embarrassed, and now living in the POLITICAL WILDERNESS of no-wheres-ville. Ha. You don't even have a party leader! And you have only 40 Senators left? Amazingly pathetic. A clear statement of the NEW MINORITY STATUS of the pitiful group that gave us the bumbling Bush-Cheney-Rice ticket, and Palin-McCain!
We're Conservatives, not Republicans. Don't confuse us with the Big Government Spending; Pro Amnesty; Also Weak, but not as Weak on National Defense as the Democrats; Pro Selling Off The Dubai Ports; Pro NAFTA; Pro CAFTA; and Borrowing and Spending Republican Party that you saw in the last 8 years.
Again, citing, Quinnipiac Univ poll: Specter would defeat ANY conservative Repub, incl Pat Toomey, if election were held today: 53 percent to 33 percent.
Similarly, Tom Ridge (hardly a hard right wing-nut), would still lose by 46 percent to 43 percent.
Truth is, there's nobody else on the Repub side worth mentioning has a snow ball's chance of beating Spector in the general, which is why the Repubs are so pissed.
note: Too few members to do much of anything, but whine, complain & pray for the worst for U.S economy. Totally invested in failure; with having ordinary americans continuing to lose their jobs in order to possibly win back their own.
Unresolved/Disputed Seat
(1 seat - MN) (Norm Coleman, typical repub, GOING DOWN to defeat but remains delusional and selfish to the hilt.)
Excellent points, Speedo. But remember what Bush did in his first 6 YRS in office? He issued ZERO vetoes. None. A record! Bush signed ALL legislation offered by the REPUBLICAN MAJORITY CONGRESS. That included all borrowing/spending by the GOP. Doubling the national debt! Not until the DEMs were on the eve of taking Congress in 2007, did Bush BEGIN A LITANY OF VETOES, followed by the GOP Senators spewing FILIBUSTERS, to freeze Congress, and making it into a 'do-nothing Congress.' Shameless GOP!
Pennsylvanians, tens of thousands of voters, have switched their party affiliation from Repubs to Dems.
Phila suburbs and the state's central region, incl counties where Repubs outnumber Dems, have some of the highest proportions of party-switchers.
State Dem party officials touted a record-level four million registered Democratic voters. 1st time voters, tens of thousands, have also registered as Democrats. (AP)
Ridge would have helped McCain a great deal more in Penn than the Wolf Butcher but, alas, he was not orthodox enough per his pro-choice stance. That said, I suspect a moderate Democrat would beat the very unpredictable Specter and I would certainly prefer that. So, he's a mixed blessing but nonetheless the defection of a Republican Senator who has been in office since before the Civil War, as party identification shrinks each hour, is surely not a good thing.
Arlen Sphincter was never a Republican. He is a liberal. I will vote against him the next chance I get. Pat Toomey is going to knock his socks off. Sphincter is a joke and he is a disgrace.
I said this when he was a republican and I say it now he had a chance to do the nation a great deed when he was a member of the Warren Commission and instead of doing his diligence he presented us with the Single Bullet Theory. He can do whatever he wants, its his payment for his loyalty to the dark side. I ignore him so should his constituencies, but they will not because The hypnotized never lie Do Ya!
Arlen Specter was worthless as a prosecutor. He was worthless on the Warren Commission. He was worthless as a republican and he'll continue to be worthless as a democrat.
My advice to Senate democrats: You better have one extra vote in your pocket before you ever count on Arlen Specter.
Arlen Specter has one agenda: whatever helps Arlen Specter.
Surely the democrats of Pennsylvania can run somebody better than this guy.
Senator Arlen "the spectator" Specter has never created or contributed anything to the U.S. Senate in his entire career. The Republicans could never count on his support and neither will the democrats. His desperate attempt to hold on to this office by switching parties is proof that he is there for his own personal gain, not for the people he represents!
This is another perfect example of why we need eight year term limits on all members of the Senate & Congress.
Let me get this straight, you can run for office and advertise yourself as belonging to one party and voters will think you will keep your ideas and values along with that party, and then after you win, you can switch parties to get re-elected, and that's legal. That's just fucked up.
A massive prank will be pulled on "comedian" Fred on youtube.
What is trying to be done is get everyone that has a subscription to fred, to unsubscribe. If this is succsesful, then it will make the news, cause controversy, and best of all, destroy fred!
As a 51 yo native Philadelphia, I've known Arlen Spector all my life and have followed his personal & political career.
He's a good man and has served PA well, which is simply why he's been reelected by the PEOPLE HERE, time and time again. No such thing as a perfect man nor politician, but he's smart & effective, more often than not!
The Lmbaugh/Hannity/Ingram small tent wing must get over it. ...they're increasingly IRRELEVANT!
seems like a flip flop opportunist to me jumping party wagons whenever it was suitable for his own interests. Once in 65 from D to R and now back again .. No loyalty or even respect for those who elected him in the first place. A mirror image of another politician: Joe Lieberman who is now on the other wagon. I wonder when Lieberman will jump back too??!!
FU-tah ...flip flop? by that mindless & worn-out talking point, i guess no one can ever change their mind nor develop new strategies to accommodate new information or changing circumstances.
No! you got it wrong. When an elected politician changes his mind, he needs to take his electorate with him, not jump ship. But changing your mind according to your own personal gain to jump on the faster wagon makes it an ill representation of that seat from an opportunist ME-firster.
You got it half-right, fukkutah. Although I'm a DEM, I've always respected Spector. The man is moderate, experienced, and a level-headed guy when it comes to making decisions on issues. Even when I DISAGREED with his votes, I RESPECTED his reasoning. It would really be a travesty to let his own party DEFEAT HIM in the primaries, just to lose the Senate seat. All because 1 or 2 of his votes pissed off the RADICAL, FAR-RIGHT of his party??! Pennsylvania would lose their best advocate for spite.
Additionally, since I gather you think you're well informed and intelligent, THE USE OF CAPS IS NOT NECESSARY. We understand lower-case letters.
And you seem to equate the Republicans losing political control as a reflection of their quality as a party. What does that say for all the years the Dems were the minority?
The party in control always comes and goes, and come and goes again. I bet in 10 years Republicans will be back, and they will fade away again. Ebb and flow.
You see I'm not talking about Specter in particular, I'm using him as an example of a behavior that I personally don't feel comfortable with, which is mixing party and personal agendas with what the country really needs. Seems like the norm in American politics has become you are either with us or .. pack your bags.
By the way I'm neither DEM nor GOP so it isn't really about that at all.
LOL I bet you said the same thing when Lieberman switched. Your (Repub Party) silence was DEAFENING. Lieberman-constituents were largely anti-Iraq war/torture/domestic wiretapping and he never brought them along. Besides, you sound hopelessly naive about governance, leadership and political realities.
PA is a VERY diversed state. Spector's been our senator for 29-years and he remains hugely popular state-wide.
I seem to recall McCain running as a "maverick" last fall and that being a talking point that got drilled and drilled into people's heads as something really positive.
Now along comes Arlen Specter showing us once again what a maverick he is, and some people are obviously very upset by this this.
I guess you have to be the right KIND of maverick.
Specter voted for the bail out, which cost him the majority of his Republican support back home. He can't win re-election as a Republican, and he knows it. (He said so on MTP this morning)
So he'll run as a Dem. The Dem party has promised he'll maintain his seniority in the Senate, and Obama will campaign for him in 2010, clearing the way of primary competition for the Dem seat.
He switched to win. He switched for the power. This is why we need term limits. It's about him, and not his state.
Powerfulpuf, it's OBVIOUS you've NEVER WATCHED a single Senate Judiciary Hearing (CSPAN) with Leahy and Spector. I know this because of your dim appraisal of Spector. Some of the hearings you missed covering Gonzales, FISA, Habeas Corpus, Homeland Security, Torture, Iraq war, etc. At least READ the transcripts if you're TOO LAZY to watch. But you say that he switched parties "for the power?" What you lack for in understanding you try to 'BUSH us' with talking points. PLEASE EDUCATE YOURSELF!!
Sorry there pal, but I didn't attack any of his votes, ideals, or even his political party (either of them). All I did was quote him, and comment how I think it's ridiculous that he switches parties to be re-elected. That is nearly verbatim what HE said. That he "can't win re-election as a Republican".
I'm not sure why you're on my case about watching or not watching CSPAN...
He changed to be re-elected, so yes, I stand by my original statement, he switched to keep his position of power.
Hey, dicendimes. I look forward to reading your newest attempts to distort the record, and remake recent history.
I really enjoy, by the way, your amazing comments that are so outwardly racist, followed immediately by your dimbulb attempt at saying you support Blacks. It's hillarious how you racists can't even read what you just wrote a second ago. Like wearing your dirty underwear backwards, on the outside of your pants, and then going to work, and wondering why everyone is glaring at you!
Instead of calling me a racist every second, why don't you actually debate me or at least point out something that I said that is racist?
Too bad I'm not a White Guilty Liberal.
You're a loser and that's why you will always vote Democrat.
I don't support Blacks, never said I did.
Democrats need people like you as props and an example for why we need more government, b/c people like you are too damn stupid to govern themselves. Congratulations, useless idiot.
When dicendimes can't admit the truth, he throws invective. I understand. Call me whatever epithet you want. History is clear these last 8 failed years of the Bush administration. I know. It's hard to swallow. Noone likes to eat shit and smile. But I give you CREDIT for swallowing so much of it, and speaking with a straight face. I have to apologize for standing upwind, cause the stench coming out of your mouth is unholy awful. But keep telling everyone that BUSH WAS A WONDERFUL SUCCESS! OMG.
History will determine if Bush's 8 years were a failure. We'll know in 15 years if it was a failure or success. I think history will look at Bush's Administration favorably.
If you compare Bush to Obama, Bush was a huge success.
History will determine..? Wha..? We have to wait until they determine IF Bush was a failure? Ha. You're being a jokester again! Dicendimes, you got to present me with a MORE difficult argument. Come on! We're all laughing at you again! Two failed wars that we will GET OUT OF because we cannot win, by any definition, captured Bin-Laden? (Don't think about him anymore, says Bush). What the fu..? Katrina? Economic trainwreck, Deregulation largess, Millions out of work, etc. Failure INDEED. Ha.
The Obama Economy isn't looking much better actually. If you want to compare Bush to Obama, ok. We saw 5% unemployment, 14,000 points on the DOW, Federal Revenues go from 2 - 3 Trillion Dollars, Saddam was captured and killed, millions of Iraqis were liberated, and the Muslim Extremists have yet to ever launch another attack on the United States. Under Obama, we see Unemployment approaching 10%; foreign countries mocking him; weak national security; banks and businesses being ran by the govt.
If Obama was succeeding, he wouldn't be blaming Bush and looking back at the last 8 years. Bush would be an after thought by now.
Hell, when 9/11 happened, Bush never once blamed Clinton. He never even blamed Clinton for the recession that he inherited from him when the internet bubble collapsed in 2000.
Bush had a bigger mess than Obama, he had a crashing economy too and he had a terrorist attack to deal with and somehow, his policies pulled us out of these recessions. Dow hit 14,000 pts.
Dicendimes, you have to admit that the financial experts out there, and several on Wall Street, and even Bernacke says, THANKS TO OBAMA, THE RECESSION WILL END THIS YEAR. Oh, sorry, you Republicans were HOPING the country would collapse, that millions more would lose their jobs, that folks would starve, JUST SO YOU CAN GAIN POLITICAL POINTS. Country last. Sorry. Looks like we Democrats had to AGAIN clean up the shit you created, that you were not man enough, not smart enough to fix. Amazing!
Hey idiot, Barney Frank, Franklin Reigns, and Chris Dodd made this fucking mess. You want to point the finger at Bush, but who was in Congress at the time this mess was happening? Oh that's right, it was Nancy "Botox" Pelosi and Harry "Body Odor" Reid. Somehow they don't share any of the blame for this, hmm, I wonder why?
You're nothing but a Loonie Lib who suffers from Bush Derangement Syndrome. You need to get over it, your boy is in office fucking up the country now, take some blame.
Wow, you guys have been up all night! neways, the reccession will probably end this year... but at what cost? Make me an argument on how increasing the national deficit by $4,000,000,000,000+ dollars is a smart decision. I don't think it was.
The banks should have FAILED. The Auto industry should have FAILED. Wall Street should have FAILED. Naturally, the market will breed new, efficient companies to take the place of the old massive cash hogs that plague the American taxpayer.
Frankie, nothing is allowed to fail anymore. Kids soccer games don't keep score because "it doesn't matter". Do bad on tests in school -- it's okay, extra credit is an expected gift nowadays. Don't exercise, eat a lot, and get fat while lacking insurance -- no worries, our government will pay for your health costs by dumping it on the taxpayers.
It's so silly of you to believe in self-responsibility. That was so 2008. We're entering our great enlightening period now. :P
Ha, yea, I know, what was I thinking making an argument like that. I'M SUCH A STUPID LOSER!
If Obama bails out the newspapers like Mama Pelosi wants, He'll be throwing cash down the toilet. I'll organize a tea party on the white house lawn. But instead of dumping out tea, we'll be drinking natty ice.

Morons!
medartist01 2 years ago

Clinton was actually more Conservative than both Bushes on Economics, but he was a disaster on foreign policy. Obama is no Bill Clinton. In fact, Bill Clinton will even tell you that Obama's policies are a disaster.
dicendimes 2 years ago
And now, Dicendimes is trying, desperately, to equate the World Trade Center attack in 93, with the humiliating, and despicably-huge, US homeland attack, on multiple targets, in 2001. The coordinated attack by Al Qaeda on 9/11 was successful because the Occupant in Office, George W Bush, was amazingly INCOMPETENT. What's worse, the moron doubled-down, and ATTACKED THE WRONG COUNTRY, in a war the next President HAS TO FINISH!! Bumbling Republicans idiots who should NEVER be in charge again!!
medartist01 2 years ago
Bush prevented another 9/11 from taking place in Los Angeles, but you see, the media will never report on an event that was prevented from happening, it will only report if something does happen. Bush is hardly my favorite President, my favorites are Coolidge and Reagan. Bush was a Fiscal Socialist. Any guy that says he has to kill the Free Market to save it, is not a President I like. I only give him credit when it's due and he kept the country safe. Democrats lost us the last war, Vietnam
dicendimes 2 years ago
The GOP has tons!??
medartist01 2 years ago
Yes, It was not Bush's fault. It was Reagens fault, he removed regulations, one of the major causes of the "Recession" Reagenomics pretty much screwed the economy. He allowed people to spend money they did not have Via Removing Regulations, and made the rich richer. But Democrats went along with it, so it his hard to really blame one party.
TheVaticanOfficial 2 years ago
What happened between 2001-2006 that was so bad, besides Katrina? The Economic Meltdown happened with Democrats in the majority from 2006 - 2008. It's easy to sit there and blame the President, but you can't back up nothing you say, alls you can say is it was on his watch, that somehow being the President means he takes the fault for every person who slips on a banana peel. You are ridiculous. Back up what you say, you witless piece of shit. Explain how Bush's policies hurt the country.

Also, it has been proven that trickle down economics does not work.

Barack Obama is currently nationalizing the auto industry, the health care industry, the financial industry, the media, energy industry, etc. and alls you can do is sit there and bitch about George W. Bush. Obama is spending this country into oblivion with a 2 Trillion Dollar Deficit and more spending on the way. He is taxing, borrowing, and printing money and creating an environment for out-of-control inflation and setting us up for another economic meltdown in the future. You wait and see.
dicendimes 2 years ago
When one has to clean up after someone else's mess, it's no fun. More to the point, when the next President is handed the responsibility of cleaning up multiple, acute crises of the former President, that becomes the new priority. That's the objective reading. But what dicendimes WANTS TO IMPART, is also to say that the guy cleaning up the mess... it was HIS FAULT! I know, I know, it sounds crazy, but that's the talking point of D. Obama made Bush create Bush's mess for Obama to fix. Huh??
medartist01 2 years ago
Obama was one of the lawyers who litigated against the banks and forcing them to make the loans. So, yes, Obama has a major role in the economic crisis. Bush cleaned up after Clinton's mess. He inherited a recession as well from Clinton when the Internet Bubble Bursted and the Nasdaq hasn't been quite the same since. Bush inherited a weak National Defense from Clinton too. Clinton attacked countries around the world, except the people who declared war on us. Obama is making things worse.
dicendimes 2 years ago
Obama is a radical Socialist Reformer. Even Democrats regret voting for this clown. Obama loves things the way they are, remember, Rahm Emanuel said, never let a crisis go to waste. You're gonna see more crisis taking place in the future, they need them to grow government faster than what we Americans would normally allow. The government uses fear and crisis to take away the liberty of its people. Bush did it with 9/11, Obama is doing it now too. Obama is Bush on steroids.

So it seems to me that these corporations don't want the government to get involved when they are trying to regulate them...but as soon as they run into trouble they want the government to rush in and save their asses. Hmmm, doesn't seem like a true free market economy to me.
TeamPoser101 2 years ago

A decade. Sure.
medartist01 2 years ago
Of course it is!
medartist01 2 years ago
Katrina was the only failure of the Bush Administration. Torture? You sissy, Waterboarding ain't torture, we do it to our own military men, are you saying we torture our military guys? Waterboarding saved L.A. from planes flying into one of their buildings, moron. The Iraq War was a success, but idiots like you can't admit it. Our brave military men and women did a wonderful job. The Economy was good 7 out of the 8 years Bush was in office, but you just like to focus on the last 3 months.
dicendimes 2 years ago

You're a Bushie.
medartist01 2 years ago

AbuGrabIt 2 years ago
You're 100% correct. I even have footage of Clinton saying it in 1998. Even Clinton explains why we should attack Iraq specifically and not other countries which also possess WMDs and that was b/c, Saddam has actually used his WMDs against other countries and even his own people. The clip is on YouTube. When I watched it, I thought to myself, damn, Clinton lied, people died? Too funny. I have another clip where in 1992, Al Gore ripped H.W. Bush for not attacking Iraq hard enough.
dicendimes 2 years ago
Republicans. Leaders of the nation, they are not. Protectors of the homeland? Absolutely NOT. Representing only 20% of the voters, these folks were in power for the last 8 yrs, and who, like dicendimes say, ITS NOT THEIR FAULT. None of it. The buck stops elsewhere. Like a child who just broke the cookie jar saying IT WASNT THEIR FAULT. Trying to explain to them that 9/11/2001 was nine months into the Bush administration..? No, it WASN'T, argues dicendimes! It was the Clinton administration. ??
medartist01 2 years ago
Clinton spent 8 years cutting military defense and ignored Al-Qaeda's attacks and ignored their declaration of war on the United States. 9/11 was planned for years ahead, long before George W. Bush was President, if you actually researched it. The borders were very weak under Clinton, the drugs were being smuggled, and the terrorists were already in the United States training for their attack on 9/11. 9/11 was executed during Bush's term, but was clearly plotted when Clinton was in office.
dicendimes 2 years ago
Bill's fault for September 11, 2001? Spoken like a true Bushie, dicendimes. Oh, it must hurt so bad to have to swallow that fact. I bet your stomach cramps every time you have to admit that stain. But whatever lie you manufacture, whatever blame you assign, we all know WHO was in the Oval Office on 9/11/01. It was a Republican! President Bush was Commander-in-Chief. You can pound your fists, swear, hurl epithets, but HISTORY RECORDS that GEORGE W. BUSH FAILED AMERICA IN ITS MOST DESPERATE HOUR!
medartist01 2 years ago
Well, the World Trade Center was attacked in 1993, and who was in office back then? Why it was Bill Clinton? What did he do about it? Hmm, nothing. Bush actually went after the guy, Clinton did nothing. So who failed the country? Oh yah, that's right, Bush bad, Bush eeeeeeeeevil, Clinton Gooooooooood! Democrat Goooooooooood!
dicendimes 2 years ago
medartist, Republicans did protect the homeland.
AbuGrabIt 2 years ago

I will defer commenting anymore on this, until youve given yourself a basic education.
medartist01 2 years ago
I have 2 College Degrees, I majored in Criminal Justice and Business, so I'm pretty damn sure I'm far more educated than you are, so you can go fuck yourself when it comes to basic education.
I know what caused the meltdown, b/c I followed this meltdown, it's my job, I'm an investment entrepreneur, what the fuck do you do?
My point is, the government forced these banks to make loans they never would make in the past, but they promised them insurance, that's why they are bailing the banks out.
dicendimes 2 years ago
Government was responsible. Repealing Glass-Steagal had jack shit to do with it. It's a weak argument from weak-minded people that Glass-Steagal had anything to do with this. Banks don't just lend money for the sake of lending money. Even a bank has limited resources, the only way they could just make loans like that is with unlimited resources, which is practically the Federal Government who can print, borrow, and tax to raise money. These banks were insured by the government to make loans
dicendimes 2 years ago
Very defensive, dicendimes. And arrogant! I simply suggest that you take a look at some factual (and well-presented) information regarding the timelines and evidence on the 2008 the subprime-mortgage meltdown, in terms of how it brought down the financial sector and economy, and you scream, NO, I DONT WANT TO LEARN. I KNOW IT ALL. OK. I guess Im presented with a child who says to those experts out there, that I just want to scream and rant. OK, now we know your true intention. Crybaby.
medartist01 2 years ago
I already have looked at the facts, evidence, and timeline. Alls you're giving me is that the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999 is what caused this. You never answered how this particular act is the reason for the economic meltdown. I have explained to you in details what happened. Banks made these loans, they were forced by the government, and they were insured by the government. Are you disputing this or not?
Where does Gramm-Leach-Bliley, which consolidated the functions of banks fit in?
dicendimes 2 years ago

It's you that's badly in need of a bit of Partisan-exorcism.
medartist01 2 years ago

But OMG, these pigs can't HAVE ENOUGH!
medartist01 2 years ago
McCain owns his homes and has money, he never needed a loan to buy them. Cyndi McCain's family is in the Big Beer Industry.
No, the Federal Government wanted to put poor people into homes, instead of being renters. They wanted poor people to be able to get loans. For years, the age old Liberal Argument has been, what's the point of loans, when only rich people could get them? Well, no you know why, cause the rich can actually pay back the loans. The poor can't. This bubble bursted.
dicendimes 2 years ago
Because homes were INCREASING IN VALUE, the banks didnt care WHO they lent money too. In fact, THEY WERE RUNNING OUT OF CONVENTIONAL BORROWERS!! They had none left. So what did they do? They relaxed rules, to lend to the risky. Moreso, they basically gave money away, thinking that if anything went wrong, THEY COULD TAKE THE HOUSE, which was acruing in value. Yes, these REPUBLICAN VULTURES could care less, as long as they make MORE MONEY. And killed the nations financial markets and economy.
medartist01 2 years ago
No, they couldn't just take the house. That's what you Libs don't understand. You think the banks never accounted into factor that price of these homes could drop? No, what happened was, they were insured by the Federal Government and forced to make these loans and if anything bad happened, the Federal Government would cover the banks. The Federal Government doesn't explain it, b/c they don't want to take any blame for this, but they created the problems through legislation.
dicendimes 2 years ago
And remember, WHENEVER YOU GET CLOSE TO STATING THE TRUTH, these dicendimes and frankies will ACT DUMB. I don't understand how deregulation of the rules, by throwing out checks/balances and oversight could hurt? Oh, I don't know why banks, who are very conservative with their investments, and investment houses, who typically take on risk, would be a problem if they marry up? Oh, I don't want to believe that this could compromise our national financial health. Oh, I'm a Republican moron. YES!
medartist01 2 years ago
When the government forces banks to make loans that they otherwise would never make, a massive bubble tends to build for a while and then bursts, when the bill comes due and these deadbeats don't pay. The problem was the oversight, the people who did the checks and balances were the ones who created the problem and that includes Chris Dodd, Barney Frank, Franklin Reigns, and more. Ya idiot.
dicendimes 2 years ago
You are A COMPLETE IMBICILE.
medartist01 2 years ago
You get it, moron?
dicendimes 2 years ago
Lastly, as with the two FAILED WARS, their FAILURE TO PROTECT US ON 9/11/2001, the FAILING economy they dumped on Obama, not withstanding the FAILURE of bank lending, the millions LOSING their jobs, millions LOSING their homes, thousands of business FAILURES, auto industry MELTDOWNS, and the TRILLIONS in debt, etc... The Republicans want YOU TO FORGET that they responsible for it all. ON THEIR WATCH. Dont forget that, people. Dont ever! Yes, Obama OWNS their failures, and has to clean it up.
medartist01 2 years ago

But that didnt include the DEREG of the RULES by Bush, and later by the bank CEOs when they needed more borrowers to buy up their MBSs.
medartist01 2 years ago
Exactly how did the Gramm-Leach,Bliley Act create the massive debt left by these bad loans and mortgages? Wasn't it Bill Clinton who signed the Gramm-Leach,Bliley Act into law? Uh oh.
Please, name some of these deregulation rules set by Bush. Was one of them Sarbanes-Oxley? Ha ha ha ha.
dicendimes 2 years ago
Amazingly.
medartist01 2 years ago
Ah ok, so Clinton, who actually signed it, he bears no blame from you Lefties on the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. I get it. You never answered my question though. How did the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act cause the problems in our economy? Answer my fucking question and quit dodging. If you can't explain this, then it was not the Republican's fault. I can explain to you how the Community Reinvestment Act created this problem, and Frankie has already done it. Put up or shut up.
dicendimes 2 years ago
There you Republicans go again! Still acting dumb. No wonder you cant lead OR govern. Glass-Steagall, or the Banking Act of 1933, defined the rules of Banking once and for all. That is, banks for lending and those for investment were SEPARATED. Sort of like you as the cokehead, and I having the cocaine. They NEED TO BE SEPARATED. But with GLB Act, you put the cokehead inside the room with the cocaine! And we got the HUGE TRAINWRECK of the MBSs, CDOs, and the fiscal MELTDOWN of 2008. Get it?
medartist01 2 years ago
Wow, that has to be THE WORST explanation, I ever heard. I can tell you're not an Economics Major that's for damn sure. You still did not explain how it created the economic meltdown. You just said that there has to be separation for investments and lending. Why must there be separation? How did consolidating the financial institutions lead to the crisis which is banks being stuck with toxic assets from bad loans and mortgages? Answer the question, seriously.

Arlen Specter was worthless as a prosecutor. He was worthless on the Warren Commission. He was worthless as a republican and he'll continue to be worthless as a democrat.

FU-tah ...flip flop? by that mindless & worn-out talking point, i guess no one can ever change their mind nor develop new strategies to accommodate new information or changing circumstances.
speedoflite1 2 years ago
No! you got it wrong. When an elected politician changes his mind, he needs to take his electorate with him, not jump ship. But changing your mind according to your own personal gain to jump on the faster wagon makes it an ill representation of that seat from an opportunist ME-firster.
Fukkutah 2 years ago

Fukkutah 2 years ago
LOL I bet you said the same thing when Lieberman switched. Your (Repub Party) silence was DEAFENING. Lieberman-constituents were largely anti-Iraq war/torture/domestic wiretapping and he never brought them along. Besides, you sound hopelessly naive about governance, leadership and political realities.
PA is a VERY diversed state. Spector's been our senator for 29-years and he remains hugely popular state-wide.
He will win the general.
speedoflite1 2 years ago
You ought to join PA Sen. Santorum (R) and assist with him optimal constituent service.
oh wait....he got trounced in '06. The ME-first PA electorate jumped ship for their own personal gain.
speedoflite1 2 years ago
Oh he wasn't already a democrat? it was so hard to tell.

I seem to recall McCain running as a "maverick" last fall and that being a talking point that got drilled and drilled into people's heads as something really positive.
Now along comes Arlen Specter showing us once again what a maverick he is, and some people are obviously very upset by this this.
I guess you have to be the right KIND of maverick.
jax1moi8 2 years ago

PLEASE EDUCATE YOURSELF!!
medartist01 2 years ago

Like wearing your dirty underwear backwards, on the outside of your pants, and then going to work, and wondering why everyone is glaring at you!
medartist01 2 years ago

OMG.
medartist01 2 years ago
History will determine if Bush's 8 years were a failure. We'll know in 15 years if it was a failure or success. I think history will look at Bush's Administration favorably.
If you compare Bush to Obama, Bush was a huge success.
dicendimes 2 years ago
History will determine..? Wha..? We have to wait until they determine IF Bush was a failure? Ha. You're being a jokester again! Dicendimes, you got to present me with a MORE difficult argument. Come on! We're all laughing at you again! Two failed wars that we will GET OUT OF because we cannot win, by any definition, captured Bin-Laden? (Don't think about him anymore, says Bush). What the fu..? Katrina? Economic trainwreck, Deregulation largess, Millions out of work, etc. Failure INDEED. Ha.
medartist01 2 years ago
The Obama Economy isn't looking much better actually. If you want to compare Bush to Obama, ok. We saw 5% unemployment, 14,000 points on the DOW, Federal Revenues go from 2 - 3 Trillion Dollars, Saddam was captured and killed, millions of Iraqis were liberated, and the Muslim Extremists have yet to ever launch another attack on the United States. Under Obama, we see Unemployment approaching 10%; foreign countries mocking him; weak national security; banks and businesses being ran by the govt.
dicendimes 2 years ago
If Obama was succeeding, he wouldn't be blaming Bush and looking back at the last 8 years. Bush would be an after thought by now.
Hell, when 9/11 happened, Bush never once blamed Clinton. He never even blamed Clinton for the recession that he inherited from him when the internet bubble collapsed in 2000.
Bush had a bigger mess than Obama, he had a crashing economy too and he had a terrorist attack to deal with and somehow, his policies pulled us out of these recessions. Dow hit 14,000 pts.
dicendimes 2 years ago
Dicendimes, you have to admit that the financial experts out there, and several on Wall Street, and even Bernacke says, THANKS TO OBAMA, THE RECESSION WILL END THIS YEAR. Oh, sorry, you Republicans were HOPING the country would collapse, that millions more would lose their jobs, that folks would starve, JUST SO YOU CAN GAIN POLITICAL POINTS. Country last. Sorry. Looks like we Democrats had to AGAIN clean up the shit you created, that you were not man enough, not smart enough to fix. Amazing!
medartist01 2 years ago
Hey idiot, Barney Frank, Franklin Reigns, and Chris Dodd made this fucking mess. You want to point the finger at Bush, but who was in Congress at the time this mess was happening? Oh that's right, it was Nancy "Botox" Pelosi and Harry "Body Odor" Reid. Somehow they don't share any of the blame for this, hmm, I wonder why?
You're nothing but a Loonie Lib who suffers from Bush Derangement Syndrome. You need to get over it, your boy is in office fucking up the country now, take some blame.
dicendimes 2 years ago

powerfulpup 2 years ago
Ha, yea, I know, what was I thinking making an argument like that. I'M SUCH A STUPID LOSER!
If Obama bails out the newspapers like Mama Pelosi wants, He'll be throwing cash down the toilet. I'll organize a tea party on the white house lawn. But instead of dumping out tea, we'll be drinking natty ice.
frankiebaby725 2 years ago
poor baby, u can overcome whatever shortcomings you see in yourself.
tea party? ...go for it
