@edwardelkhatib Of course it is! Lauda/Austrian fly regular charter services with 767 into LOWI. Also First Choice and Tui use 767 during the busy winter months. OS even once flew an A330 in there.

It is a spectacular sight if you go up the "Nordkette" by cablecar to Hafelekar an watch the planes land from far above. You almost have the feeling you watch planes land on a model railway board.

this is computerised version of surrounding Innsbruck. It is actually true, it is the most difficult airport to land as Innbruck is surrounded by the Alps from all sides. Here and there they have training days. it's fun to watch them, they touch the runway and get back up in the air. Innsbruck is a fantastic place to visit, rec'd 100%!

Hi Guys!!

i know the airport of Innsbruck very well, because Innsbruck is my hometown. The aiport of innsbruck has a second problem. The runway is rather short. But we can't make it longer, because when the airport was built, the city wasn't as near as it is now. So we have to build a new airport, when we want a longer runway. But that's (obviosly) really expensiv for such a little city!!

innsbruck is not one of the most dangerous airports in the world, even if we have mountains!!!

Dangerous is probably the wrong word. But it is very challenging. Hence the special licence and minimum hrs as PIC needed to fly there. If you don['t have it, you can't land there even in an emergency.

And then you have the winds on the downwind leg of RWY08. Downwinds and foilage induced turbulence. It is a very challenging approach and only after a lemgthy training course are you alowed to fly into LOWI. That alone tells a story :-)

I dont know if a 747 is allowed to land in innsbruck, well putin once landed with his tupolev ;) you were able to hear all throug Inn-Valley - terrible.

Btw. the Montains dont look like in the vid, they're higher in my opinion, but its true that there are mountains all around the airport.

I really wonder if the airport in Innsbruck are between mountains? I've never went to Innsbruck but I've went to Sion Intl' in Switzerland where the airport was also in between maountains.

I've flown into Innsbruck, yes it's scary! But it's boring there anyway, so I don't suggest you visit it. But then again it's also scary flying into McCarran Intl' at Las Vegas with a drunk pilot flying a British airways 747.

Did you hear about those pilots on Frontier Airlines (correct me if I'm wrong) who fell asleep at the cockpit, and were waken up to the loud frantic calls from the control tower in Denver!! It turns out the planes they were flying were coming inbound at too high rate of speed and literally falling from the sky!! YIKES!!

hmmm it was on the BBC and CNN, so as the story goes the pilots actually fell asleep at the cockpit, when the plane started to fall from the sky, like I guess at high speeds, Denver control was yelling at them over the radio frequencies!

Lol, is not easy... At least de DME LOC 08 West App. If you fly direct to the runway you may stop within the runway if the B744 is empty. No way if it's fully loaded xDD.

It's not very hard, but it's very dangerous. You fly so close to the mountains so you can imagine what it's like in strong winds, low visiblilty etc....
