hi, just to let you know this isnt your bird playing with your cat, it is causing your bird a lot of stress, including the head bobbing, and the aggressive lurching forwards with beak open when the cat puts paw up, the pacing on the perch they are all signs of stress in your parrot, i know you cat probably wouldnt hurt your bird, but does expose your bird to so much stress to a natural predator :/
This is idiotic, all it takes is one swipe of the cats claw or a "love bite" and that little bird is a goner. The cat actually doesn't even need to do that because cat saliva contains bacteria that is toxic for birds,so when that little Budgie is nibbling on the cats toe nails and mouth it is at risk of ingesting Pasteurella bacteria which is toxic.
I was really pleased to find your videos because I am about to have a very similar living situation with my green cheeks and a new cat that we are adopting. Obviously I don't expect the animals to get along but I am lucky that my birds have a room to themselves so I don't have many worries about leaving the house.
That being said do you have any advice for the animals to get used to each other so in case of an unexpected escape from my birds into the cats living space or vice versa?
@lasive - Thanks. Tommy's actually quite the calm cat, pretty cool with 'most everything. Doesn't create problems, and even toilet-trained .....yes, as in using a real toilet... search out "Tommy Jr. & Toilet" on YouTube.
@archisb - Yeah... I originally soundtracked "Why Can't We Be Friends" as the music to this (it worked well), but YouTube canned it and forced one of their own tunes onto it. @#$%#$%!!!!
cat: lets play. bird: ok....ow quit hitting me (bite) cat: omg u bit me now die! basically this is why most of the time cats and birds dont get along. ud need a bird that doesnt bite and a cat that doesnt fight.
Too funny! My GCC's name is Jimmy, too. I can just imagine the sounds your Jimmy was making at the time, those little grumbly mumbly GCC noises of belligerance. :-)
@SuperOxideDimutase Well, he must be a slow cat. It's been over three years, and both the cat, and my other cat, and all three of my birds are still hale and healthy.
Fact is, some cats are just smarter than other cats, and have learned what's allowed and what's not.
@conocuz Thanks for the positive note... saw YOUR conure videos... the pen cap one is fun to watch. He's really sharp-eyed. You know when their attention is on something... they just stare it down.
Also nice to get a comment that's not warning about the imminent death of my bird... it's been over two years now since this video was made, and Jimmy & Tommy Jr. still mingle occasionally. Been around each other so long they just hang out sometimes.
One scratch and your bird will be dead. The amount of training you "do" doesn't mean squat. Cats are predators and birds are prey, you can't train that type of behavior away. Have you never seen when "trained" tigers or lions attack their trainers? You can't train an instinct out of an animal, you just can't. And no matter how supervised it is, they can move a lot faster than you can.
@Neferhotep85 tiger and lions are wild cats are domestic animals two differnt things and yes you can train a bird and a cat to get along not all cats are the same my cat and bird are doing just fine toghether
This is SO dangerous no matter how much "training" you may have done. One tiny scratch from the cats claw and the bird is in serious trouble and will probably die within 24 hours. You won't notice anything wrong with the bird and all of a sudden he will just drop dead. That's how deadly the pasteurella bacteria that the cat carries is.
OMG do you not know any better, that cat can kill your bird in 1 sec. Not to mention the saliva is toxic to your bird. I can only assume you don't care if your cat kills you bird even in front of your own eyes as you record.
@cindylou38 um don`t you think he knows that? please stay out of stuff like this i have a cat and a budgie and i let them hang out all the time nothing happens it just takes lots of training that whole cat bird thing is not completly true if they have been shareing the same space for a long time thenthe cat will grow used to the bird
@xxjumalaxx ugh don`t you think he knows that already atleast i do and i let my cat and bird hang out all the time it takes training. all domestic animals will get along well when they are all shareing the same liveing space for a long time it does not matter if a cat and a bird interact nothing will happen the cat is a house cat house cat not a feral house cats don`t hunt food they don`t know how to even with instinct as they were raised around humans and other animals their whole lives

@xxjumalaxx oh alright then im glad we are on the same page im sorry ok no need to get mad i thought you were aginst the idea so i was just trying to explain thats all im sorry
haha funny that you say friends. my green cheek does that when she is trying to kill something. and the cat is totally hitting the bird in the face. but it's still super duper cute. what a good cat to not just kill it.
I have seen a few videos where the cat and bird seem to like each other. This isn't one of them. Check out the body language. The cat is licking it's chops and resisting natural instincts. The conure is trying to defend it's territory.
@MsSherriBelle - All I can say is, it's been over two years since this video was shot, and seven years that the animals have been together (two cats, four birds) and everyone is still alive and chummy.
In fact, the cat actually came to get my attention one time when a cockatiel had gotten in trouble, under the cage and unable to climb up to it. (she's a fat cockatiel, and getting lazy).
Instead of eating her, Tommy (the cat in this video) came meowing to me and led me to her room to help her.
@ThePattycake1313 i agree. i found out the hard way and never again. my bird was killed by my cat that was raised around birds his whole life. i have regreted it since. and believe me its bullshit to put birds arounds cats and dogs.
My cat and hamster used to love each other's company, the cat would let the hamster fall asleep on her. Both are very docile so I could leave them out for ages at a time, nothing bad ever came of it, in fact they used to stay together for ages!
@BossHossGT500 Considering they've been playing this way for over five years, and the bird is tougher than the cat, I don't worry. They're all still friends.
Some people don't teach or train their animals, they're the ones you should feel sorry for.
And remember, one of the fastest way to get an instant picture of the quality of someone is by the adjectives they use.
you are not being very smart this could end up very badly the cat is really holding back from the real damage he could cause. I would not let my cat touch my bird, it is very unwise anything could happen.
The cockatoo & GCC are out all day. THIS kind of close-play is supervised, otherwise, the animals are out & about even when I'm at work. How 'bout this surprise: I DISCIPLINED & TRAINED the cats to accept the birds, & TRAINED the birds to be AWARE of the cats, with lots of watched-over interaction at the beginning. IT'S THE TIME TAKEN WITH YOUR ANIMALS that counts. These guys could've eaten each other years ago; they were raised as friends, OPEN to contact at all times. They aren't stupid.
@SanandreasKing23 Hey, tell you what. Ill give you 5,000 dollars. You can use it how ever you want, and if we are still here on christmas I get your house, cars, and dog. You can keep the cat, don't like em. We got a deal? I mean the world has only been here 4.5 billion years, what are the odds we will still be here on Dec 25, 2012?
Wonder how many people aren't gonna bother buying Xmas gifts in 2012, 'cause, it's just like, y'know, so totally unnecessary, since we're all gonna be dead before the happy event.
I might be getting a GCC and I am wondering how you introduced the 2 to each other. How did you know when you first started letting them interact that the cat wouldn't just attack the bird or even just playfully claw at him? Was the cat raised with birds? Any other tips about getting my cat to not wanna kill my bird?
Hi, thanks for inquiring. Both cats were raised around birds. Gave them the chance to see birds up close... if they reached out to touch, I said "No" firmly, but not freak them out. Birds learned to accept the cats, knowing they were safe. I've got 4 birds, 2 cats... over 5 years. Jimmy (the GCC) has more attitude than both cats, and pushes THEM around. Plus, he's very quick. The cats are indoor (not hunt-trained) kitties, docile, but still like to play. Just keep 'em well fed. (ha)
kittey is brave?????????? more like thebird is brave dont you mean, how could the owner even video this when the bird id trying to defend itself...look at their sizes yeh...on top of the the cat scratches can kill birds...and there you are filming this thinking it is funny?
Hmmm... perhaps you didn't notice the first remarks, but these two have been playing together for over FIVE years. The cat does not use his NON-EXISTENT claws, and the bird literally scares off the cats with his bravado, often chasing them out of the room. The kitties are tame, and the BIRD is the one to beware of!
Everybody!! Step away from the innuendo and uninformed opinions, and nobody gets hurt......
Regardless whether your bird is "nice" and gets along with your cat, the cat could accidentally scratch your bird. Cat claw bacteria is deadly to birds. Even a small, small scratch that barely breaks the skin, can kill a bird.
Naw. They've been raised together. They play like this all the time. The GCC's got more balls than the cat anyway... his ego can fill a room. He eats from chicken drumsticks we give him; somehow that little bird can lift a chicken bone bigger than him and gnaw the meat off it. He takes care of himself pretty well; seems to be a natural fighter.
'Course, I do make sure the cat's always well fed anyway, just in case.
Hahaha... Yeah I'm amazed at the strenght those little buggers have on that beak. Their bite is horrendous when u get them home d 1st week, isn't it? We keep our Ernest away from the table, but our lovebird goes & eats off our plates & she usually wants the piece of ribs you're trying to eat, b/c the 1's in d plate aren't as good as d 1 we r holdin.
my gcc cheeky would have no problem defending himself against a cat. he's one crazy bird. I love him more than the rest of my family. he's my best friend and he won't leave me alon!!! lol. i can't leave a room without cheeky, he'll just fly to me once i'm halfway through the door. lol. i take him everywhere!! he loves going to petsmart. so cute. you can see him in a couple of the videos on my channel. baby daze (sucks) and when balls attack (the chris show). he attacks christopher in it. lol.
Goodness!!! Be careful! GCCs are strong willed and characteristic birds but the cat isn't likely to be that tolerable for long. As much as the bird seems to look after itself, it could get badly hurt.
Thanks for noting your concerns. The bird is now about 8 years old, the cat three. The cat has known this bird, and our other three (2 cockatiels and a Goffin's Cockatoo), for his entire life.
He's "acclimatized" to them, as it were. In fact, Jimmy (in the vid) has ridden the cat like a horse occasionally, and the cat complies. Most of the time, though, Jimmy intimidates both Tommy and Max, our other cat, into submission, usually chasing them out of the room! They've all grown up together.
u could remove the song and youtube will give u money!

Most of the time, though, Jimmy intimidates both Tommy and Max, our other cat, into submission, usually chasing them out of the room! They've all grown up together.
