  • Check out the latest TV ad from GM.

They seem to have been enlightened...

The Chinese are now building electric cars destined for America.

Its like 1970 all over again.....

  • Al Gore has become so disconnected with reality. There is no way we can become completely free from carbons in 10 years for electicity production.

You also cannot store wind or solar energy.

  • Al Gore´s motives are obviously geopolitical, if you understand the way the world works.

  • Would you be willing to live in smaller house? To live without a TV? Ride a bike to work? Take a train to work? Would you be willing not to overeat? Overdrink, Overspend? Take a burlap bag to the supermarket? Are you willing to eat less meat? Are you willing to move close to Metro Stations? Are you willing to pay more taxes in order to build more public transportations? Can a married couple share one car? Can college kids ride bikes to campus?...Talk is cheap!

  • Yes, Yes and yES...America did many things to conserve vital resources during WWII. So whats the problem?

  • WWII is over by the way.

  • G.M. should stand for Gimmie Money...;)

They tried to squash the electric car in California, now GM is driving in reverse!

This is a re-run of the 1973 oil crisis.

We need to start a new war called the War Against Greed (WAG). GM may try to corner the market on battery technology and create a new dependency (i.e. technology patents)

Punish them, make your next car/truck Japanese !!!!!

Call your senator about S. 3268 a bill to crack down on oil speculators.

  • Moron, GM did make an electic car. As did Honda. They sold horribly!

Toyota, Honda, GM, Ford and Nissan have all stated that battery technology is probably decades away from being feasible for a sedan car.

You're just an anti American who hates your fellow country men and wants to see them all unemployed. Liberal no doubt.

  • Auto mechanics are trained for combustion engines so switching a battery could be done by ordinary folk. The technology has been here to switch to electric but was suppressed by GM.See "Who killed the electric car?"It is time for auto makers to get out of bed with the oil companies. However I am for drilling right now till this transformation occurs.

  • Become an adlut. The electric car killed itself because is not feasible yet. Take a look around the world. There isn't an electric car anyware!

You are just a parinoid liberal who hates America and especially the domestic automakers.

  • kartman13 You REALLY need to do better research. Electric cars have been in place for YEARS in europe and parts of Asia.

The U.S. is just now catching on...mainly because U.S. Automakers refuse to re-tool until they have no other option...which is now of course. The electric car age WILL come to the U.S., and the Gasasauras Rex age of low efficiency ICE age engines will fade away just like the fossil fuels they require...

    Adapt or die Detroit!!!!!

  • You need to face reality. Battery technology is still decades away from producing a feasible car for the North American auto market.

You are just a self loathing American who just hates Detroit and blames Detroit automakers for you personal issues with your parents.

    GROW UP!

  • Next Time you are in Washington D.C. stop by the Museum of American History...where you will see the very first electric automobile.

So for over 50 years, why has the technology been pushed to the back burner? Its not like we do not have highly educated scientist and engineers who could solve this problem.....

  • Maybe you should stop looking in the mirror when you speak, anyu1941. My feeling when Bill Clinton was elected was that Al Gore should have been the president. I was really hoping that we could draft him to step up in this campaign. But he may be correct that not having him when we could have was a seriously missed opportunity and judging from people like you, People can only waste so much of their lifetime trying to help. It could take several generations of Al Gores. This one has only one.

  • Way to go Al.This will get us off foreign oil.Maybe even foreign war.The only people against you are big oil, auto makers auto mechanics, politicians,Bush, etc.Common people can meet this challenge if they are not bought off or suppressed.

  • Why would auto mechanics care if the engines they are making or fixing are powered by electricity rather than fossil fuel? Outsourcing is happening without the conversion to electric. It could be better for auto workers in that it could bring American jobs back home.

  • What a ridicoulsy childish statement.

    Blame, blame, blame.

  • As we all learn in industry...SET REALISTIC GOALS. Even if we only achieve half of the them, that's SOMETHING. Currently all we do as Americans is bitch, moan and argue about WHO has the ONE best solution to a given problem. How about this idea? How about we stop arguing and FIX the damn THING!

Yeah that right! How about passing Senate proposal S. 3268, added oversight for oil speculators. Its not the only idea or solution, but its a start. Stop Whining, Get off you Asses and DO IT!!!!!!

  • I think its great let's do it, I'm bored.

  • Al Gore for Energy CZAR!!

  • What you just said, is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point, in your rambling, incoherent response, were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room, is now dumber, for having listened to it.may God have mercy on your soul

  • Jimmy Carter said this almost thirty years ago.

  • he also said he was going to get rid of the DEA

    i am disappointed in jimmy

  • wat would u prefer. To live in a poor world where it's clean or a war-torn world in chaos

  • I would prefer to live under an effective government that doesn't squander my tax dollars and plans ahead into the future.

  • So that should prove to you how naive and unrealistic Al Gore is.

Jimmy Carter was extremely naive and idealistic.
