Olbermann was giving his opinion. In doing so, he ripped the republican party and McCain. KO has not been silenced, he's just not in the anchor chair. If you watch his show, he is still giving his opinions. Is "freedom of the press" freedom to give any opinion you want? Or is it to report news? I think it means the later.

He is free to give his opinion - he gives it everyday on his show. If your job requires you to report news and not indulge in opinion, then the employer has a right to dismiss you from that post if you indulge in opinion. He was not "punished" for giving his opinion on HIS SHOW. Far from it. MSNBC's ratings continue to stink, and they were becoming the butt of too many jokes. And Olbermann was the main cause. Of course we have freedom of speech but there are rules, guidelines and journalistic standards that responsible broadcast networks follow. KO was both a commentator and anchor at Msnbc, however he almost always blurred the line between these 2 separate and distinct jobs. He was fired from his anchor job for bias comments.
