play baby play.....TOMMY.......listened heavy to Raunch & Roll live & saw him live in small theater with Pat Travers ; My friends band backed 'em UP. "Trapper" Roby Barton , are you still out there ???? YouTube IBEW drummer
Wow! I remember when Tommy played with Black Oak Arkansas -- saw him dozens of times in the 70's. He was awesome then and he's even more awesome today.
Tommy's one of the best music artist in the business his career speaks as loud as his drums Thanks for the awesome jams and the party memories growing up
Tommy is amazing. If anyone uses double bass any faster than him, then it ain't music, just noise. He hits the drums where the song needs it, the rest of the guys around the world that try to be faster, make a drum solo instead of a song and it ruins the whole feel of a song. Those thrash drummers are truly boring. They do the same things over and over again like a drum machine.
There are better double bass drummers all over today, but Tommy started the DB revolution. NOBODY was incorporating double bass drums into fills prior to TA...this guy, 22 years old with Black Oak Arkansas in 1972, turned the concept of double bass drumming upside down...at least 20 years ahead of his time! I'd bet serious money that any DB monster today will acknowledge that he grew up listening to this guy.
One of the most grounded, coolest independent contractor pro's to hit the scene, ever ! .Don't start with the technical BS & who's better & anyone can do his gig, look what he's done & experienced...35+ years later.
@mattmhyc Your awkward moment was when you looked at your post after you had clicked 'post' and realized that you had misspelled 'realized' and 'the' and 'awkward.'
When I was 13 and just started playing drums, my god father turned me onto Black Oak Arkansas Raunch and Roll with Tommy live in 1972 and that did it for me!!!!!
Saw Tommy do a drum clinic in Baltimore back in the early '90s. Great player, interesting clinician, but the thing I remember most is that he kept referring to this certain drum part as "the homo beat." Not PC at all was Mr. Aldridge.
I respect this guy cause he was the one who brought double bass into metal music. If you listen to any drummer who plays double bass, they were inspired by Tommy Aldridge or someone else who was.
yeah tommy baby !! i use coated emperors on my top snare as well !!!! what a pro, nice guy, amazing drummer who knows everything there is to know about rock drumming , metal and all that other shit that comes with.... great guy, and great drummer !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
he's in his late 50's and still has more energy, power and speed than most young punk pussies half his age !! but, he should chop that 80's mop , though !! LOL !!
what a nice down to earth guy, with no attitude ..that's what we call a real pro !!
@blica1 Exactly right brother!!! I met Tommy back in the 80s when he was touring with Ozzy and he was really a down to earth guy; not a typical Rock Star attitude guy.
@rhc1407 he was already a Great Drummer in 1970 when Zep was still playing and Bonzo was still alive so that being said....he had much earlier influinces then the Late Great John Bonham..RIP His playing with Pat Travers on Boom Boom Out go the Lights was one of the best live cuts ever caught Live ! And they were better live then Zep....
I respect his playing, and I know he is great, but am I the only one that thinks every solo he plays sounds exactly the same..? I know the hitting the skins with his hands is his thing, but really surprise me... don't do it for at least one solo.
@scottiblasto The solo he does in this video is actually the same as the one he toured. He wrote it out ahead of time and plays it the same way each time, like a song. Some of his older solos are a bit different though.
i know tommys ex wife she is now married to jack russell singer from great white,i asked her how was tommy as a person ,she said is a great guy ,great attitude,he is a fully energetic person, and of course a great drummer
Keep rockin Tommy your a great friend of mine and if no1 beloved me his wifes name is Caren and he loves beagles with cream cheese Your friend,Joseph
AWESOME NEW TOMMY ALRDRIDGE FOOTAGE!!! I love it. :) My favorite all time Hard Rock drummer... one of the GREATs... gets better and better and better.
This guy in my opinion is the best! I love his style and how he plays like a crazy beast and it's just amazing to see how great he is even though he is self tough!!! It doesn't take a great drummer to hear and see how much skill and talent Tommy has!
I've had the opportunity on several occassions to see Tommy Aldrich live with Whitesnake, and I don't believe that I've ever seen a harder working, or more dedicated drummer anywhere. Rock on!
My guess is that most modern rock drummers think of Tommy as a total master. What a fucking animal he is. Ozzy probably wets his pants these days, this man could still tour with any band. Sorry Ozzy, I love you dude...
From 6:22 to the end........Was Some Really Inspiring Stuff........Amazing, But Its Look Liked It Hurt To Play.........Thats An Artist For You Though......They"ll Suffer For Their Passion......Im A Big Fan Of Mr. Alridge Now.......BONG!!!!
I have a decent set of PC speakers and it may just be "my" ear, but do the toms in this video sound sort of flat..or dead? NOT TOMMY'S PLAYING! Aldridge is awesome! ( have seen him live and have his inst. vids) But to me, for a "drum head" video advertisment it seems as if it could have been mixed better...but hey, maybe its just me. Just wondered if anyone had noticed?
I always have a huge smile on my face when I watch tommy aldridge, he just has so much fun playing. I wonder how many times he's busted his hands open on the rim playing with no sticks.
He's a very, very nice fellow. I met him at a drum clinic in San Jose back in..... well a while ago. During a question and answer session someone asked him if he had any advice for drummers starting out. He said, "Lessons. Definitely take lessons. I never took lessons. I think I would have gone a lot farther as a drummer if I had taken lessons."
Farther?!?! He played for Ozzy, Whitesnake, Malmsteen and with the best of the best.
@azimuth361 dont forget Vinne Moore!!!! if you haven't listened to Vinne Moore check out his album Minds Eye dude tommy rips it up! You can totally tell its his drumming too on the album (the tone, the licks,)everything he does is totally trademark.
Both amazing drummers and only a couple years different in age. They were playing at the same time. Tommy Aldridge mentioned in a clinic that he was very sad when we lost "Bonzo".
