  • Were you a percussionist

  • When your playing the paradiddle are you bouceing the sticks there? I want to be in this band but I apparently dont bounce my sticks right. Im a good drummer but when i play fast I dont bounce I just rush. am i doing that right

  • @Pductions

You should allow the rebound to help the stick back up, but you ARE doing 2 strokes. It's not a bounce motion. It's helpful to practise on a pillow to get used to keeping full, controlled strokes. Then when you move to a drum, it will feel fairly easy! This is a physical aspect and to improve it all you can do is practise practise practise, with good technique. At higher speeds the rebound will become a little bit more of a factor, but your rudiments should always be controlled.

  • @trizzHHS Sweet, thanks alot man.

  • I swear he said sex-tuplet :L

  • @FakeMessiah94

He did =O triplet, quadruplet, quintuplet, sextuplet, septuplet, octuplet. seems funny but yeah it's sex not six =P

If you mean because the way he applies it is as straight16ths/32nds, yeah he made a mistake but it could be applied either way and he was emphasizing that it was a group of six xDD

  • u know ur a boss when you buy a mini tom to put to the left of ur snare lol. nice vid.

  • 6 people lost an arm

  • Thanks Rob, This video is really making me feel like doing some solid work, instead of just playing with others. Otherwise there is no point, it's nearly impossible to learn new things (technique-wise) while jamming with a band.

We'll see how long it'll take me to get reasonably smooth at this "simple" paradiddle excercise. I'm giving myself 6 months... ;)

  • Are you bouncing your stick?

  • you should become a pro

  • Damn! Your awsome mann!!

  • @robthedrummer do you use the flying finger technique or do you use your wrist speed I can't really tell. The drummer for divine Hersey uses the flying finger technique and he's amazing

  • What's your name, Bro? Great exercise, well played! Thanks for passing along this bit of drum history, Promethius! Thank you .Be well.

  • SA-WEET Man, thanks! this has really helped me out! i appreciate it!

  • nice fills.

  • Cheers man, great stuff.

  • iloveyou.jpg

    lol

  • Great stuff and very helpful! Thanks a lot!

  • great lesson...im going to practice these fills today!

  • its SOOOO empty and shitty without dinamics man, ur just hitting the drums you have to EXTRACT the sound out of the drum its so lifeless!

  • what about the 5-stroke roll? it is pretty much the same :D

  • Do u remember how long it took to practise that??

  • my left hand cant keep up lol any recomendations on how to speed it up?

  • @kev01993 Lift weights.

Helped me out alot thanks keep it up(:

  • I would like to see bieber do this

  • @sweetdrums295 Bieber also plays drums.

  • @ThePiroJoke i know i meant i would like to see him do this while he's playing drums he is not this good

  • I Really Liked this mate, going to have to try and learn this :)

  • To me he sounds like Carl off of family guy :P

  • very nice application PEACE

  • now that was awesome, now ima go practice this and gonna try to go faster thx for your help man

  • Thanks this was very helpful

  • START PLAYING !!

  • Aww man I skipped the parrididdle now I'm about to go back and learn it

  • good drumming man!

  • Excellent, so using more wrist and less arm will allow a much more even sounding roll. Do you warm up your wrists with heat or anything to loosen them up beforehand? Thanks for the video.

  • I'm as many people faster with my right hand as a right handed, is there a way to get my left hand as fast as the right one quickly?? Please reply ASAP anybody!

  • how much do you pratice a day

  • unreal mate ive been practicing and its starting to come along Awsome bud cheers :-)

  • dude uve helped me alot thanks :) realy you are good

  • I have a question

For some reason, when i try to play fast, i use the muscle near my joint, and i just can't play fast. if i try to play fast or do fast rolls i just get tired or lose the beat, and it makes my roll sound awful. What could it be? i looked in many lessons about holding the drums sticks correctly and i dont think i have any trouble with that. Do you know what could it be? Please answer.

  • @KINGmatan The muscles you are using are to weak, I had issues explaining to my friend why his GF couldnt play guitar, Its one of the things that will come with time, just keep doing it and you will be able to do it for longer and longer periods of time.

  • @AlexSleyore thanks dude. but the thing is. i'm a lefty, but i got used to play as a right-handed player. i can use my left hand faster than i use my right hand, but if i'm trying to play as a lefty its kinda hard for me. i guess it's all a matter of practice ;)

  • @KINGmatan practice and practice!!! but here's smth that helped me a lot: practice on a pillow, on your bed, on the floor tom then when you'll move to the snare you'll fly...

  • this was very helpful! thanks

  • dude 5:17 to 5:20 that little extra part of that fill was f@#king awsome .

  • your tight thoe

  • this real simple

  • checkabreak

More like you sound young and stupid. Don't be fooled, Leeroy,. my experiience is from jazz to rock to classical. Recorded and performed with some of the world's best. I can still kick ass on a nice set and could kick your ass as an afterthought. I'm not impressed.

NOW GO MAKE ME MY LUNCH.....CHUMP!

  • paradiddle till the sun sets....I need something more creative. You have some potential...but STOP WITH THE PARADIDDLES ALREADY....SKIAAATTTTTTTT!

  • graet video...very nice playing!!

  • Im learning Bat Country and Beast and the Harlot by Avenged Sevenfold on drums and this has really helped thanks.. :)

  • Good stuff, thanks!

  • Great help!

    Thanks man, fun to watch.

Makes me want to go practice! :)

  • About time someones put up how to do all that fast stuff used in solos .Good work Rob i found it useful man cheers !

  • Thanks bub. I'm planning to get a new drum set. I'm twelve and in a band with my friend and need to learn to drum fast. Thanks for your help.

  • your tom vibrates too much

  • @lanainfla stop reading modern drummer lol

  • @checkabreak

stop being a stupiod dumb FK. I never even heard of this magazine and don't give a shit either. This shit blows and so do you. BTW,

i was a snare drum-master with a major drum corp when you were wiping your nose on your sleve, punk ass bitch. So shut up puke breath.

  • @lanainfla Wow u do sound old lol, screaming and getting all work up lol, come around my way (NY) and i'll knock your teeth out i promise sir !! no big deall .. lol well you are drum corp master drummer? i'm not impress, nothing screams "uptight" like drum corp drummers.

  • Guessing your name is Andy,, Can you send me a dvd on your fast rolls please.. I play drums by ear and I would love to practice your method.. email me at:dorame99@aol.com

  • Maybe it's boring but thank you. I thought you have to born with ability to play such a fast rolls and now I know that I can do it if I spent some time on "boring" practice ;)

  • Ur really cute but this is boring lol

  • absolutely fantastic, its amazing what learning a rudiment can get you to achieve.

thank you so much for the lesson, you're a gentleman and a scholar my friend!

    DttL

  • Yeah man thats good advice if you can master paradiddles rolls become easier. I dont even count anymore when i do it.

  • sounds like a diddle too LOL

  • awesome thanks

  • about how long did it take you to get that fast?

  • GOOOD SHHHIT

  • Wow. How did I not know this

  • Sounds like when the Flintstones run their feet before their car accelerates.

  • Solid video...you explain it all just as simple as the concept is. Makes it all human which is very good...unlike this andy guy.

    Great Drumming!!

  • your really good dude like amazing and for some duchbags just dont listen your really awesome i look up to you keep it up

  • this really helps thanks

  • Thanks Man, great lesson. Like the explanations as well. PS - I think andyyyhitscar is trying to drop a suttle hint :) LOL

  • Love your snare sound. And great teaching man.

  • Sweet thanks

  • Hee dude i like that snaredrum, it sound like 14". What is it.

  • Wow, someone was dropped on his head as a child....

  • Comment removed

  • @andyyhitscar your dumb just fast foward it.

  • @andyyhitscar

I think andy got hit by a car. lol

  • thanks mate! really helped :)

  • you win! thanks man! :D

  • how long did it take for you to get this good, and how long did you practise paradiddle-diddles for?

  • thank you great lesson

  • A paradiddle is actually RLRRLRLL

  • @erickinikini2

Yes that is a paradiddle but Robthedrummer is talking about a paradiddle-diddle, which is as he is teaching it.

  • your entire presentation was a 10! very helpful, well thought out, good examples of how to use paradiddle diddle within the context of a drum groove. good luck and prosperity to you bro. thanks for sharing your considerable skills and knowledge.

  • Took me a good hour to learn this, this is like my new favorite way to drum roll. I use to just go RLRLRLRLRLRL or opposite, and RRLLRRLLRRLL or opposite.

  • thnxxxx bro ima go to my set now lolz

  • dude thank you so much, my fills are so much cleaner! :D

  • your doubles are insane

  • Great tutorship! Instantly saved it to my favourites! You and Spikey drummer are the real hero's of on line drumming videos !

So many do not explain simply or directly.

Thanks for bringing these vital techniques to light! KUDOS AMIGO!

  • good stuff.. super good tips..practice practice practice the rudiments.. i hate them

  • is this a spunky snare drum? =)

    cooll video :D!

  • SPEED Totally comes with practice I soo get what this guy is saying

  • hi man great video, do you have any tips to play faster? i can do the paradiddlediddle stuff, but my wrists ache quickly lol.

  • do a mastodon cover man!

  • wow ur great im guna go practice some!!!

  • rock & roll!

  • haha his voice sounds a bit like the coach from home movies lol but great vid thanks for the tips

  • If you would go into detail about the kind of fill you did at 5:26, It would really make me happy. I know its all just paradiddle-diddles. But just a little bit of detail over moving the hands across the toms as it is done would really help me out. Thanks.

  • isnt that tune he plays from like 5:10 sound like joey jordison solo abit i think :):):):)

  • thanks man helped alot now im in aband because of the tips thanks man

  • thanks man been looking for videos like this for a long time!

  • What do you call this?RLRRLRLL

    Now which one is faster?

  • thats is two regular paradiddles i would personally have to say the paradiddle-diddle is faster.

  • a paradiddle

  • the speed isn't the hard part it's how long your stamina lasts while playing fast.

  • THE HARD PART IS THE MUSICALITY

  • Great lesson bro.....thanx a buch,

your sick!...keep posting man, you're making me a better drummer,

  • awsome vid,, thanks but i have one question,

when you explain it slow you say the RLRRLL pattern, and say to hit the R to end it, when you are going really fast (cause i can't tell) are you hitting RLRRLLRRLRRLL or RLRRLLRLRRLL,

just wondering, thanks for the video it's helping my rolls haha

  • I have the same sticks, I hate them, they rip my fingers up.

  • not the body

  • hey what kind of snare drum are oyu using? it kinda looks like a Porkpie Amber Piglite from this view/

  • think its a tama

  • I just smashed through two drum heads. Ive been playing for awhile; but ive notice me getting worse any pointers?

  • Just relax and use more wrist, rather than arms. Drumming isn't about how hard you hit the drums, dynamics are a musical tool.

  • @robthedrummer so wait, do i let my hands fly to make the beat fast???

  • @thehaunter13 coll men very good

  • @thehaunter13

YES...STOP SMASHING AND START PLAYING VERY LIGHT TO MEDIUM VOLUMES. IF THAT DOESN'T WORK TRY WORKING ON CARS.

  • @thehaunter13 Take it slow , then speed up as you get the pattern you want. Same with drum solos. This is why all these douche bags say...........He does the same shit every time." it is because it is what the practice and what the drummer is comfortable with. Like he says muscle memory.

  • this i s really good i can practice my drill team moves on this one.

  • sweet

  • Comment removed

  • Really useful vid Rob - opened a new door for me. Thanks.

  • you finaly started to play i vaited on this video for you to stop talking and get to playing!!!!

  • Really very cool dude.

  • Ive been having alot of probs with gripping, stick flying out of my hands at random times during my playing. Was wondering what the black stuff is on your sticks and if it helps you hold on to them.

  • That stuff is called pro mark stick wrap. I've had problems with grip due to a dry skin condition. It helps me grip normal. I used to have a problem with gripping to tight so the stick didn't slip, which led to cramping up. The wrap helps me keep a relaxed grip, which in turn helps me play better.

  • Thanks man ;]

  • no one give a shit about your stupid comments. the fact is he was trying to show us how to do something and you go ripping on him. dont deny the fact the he's the one who's gonna go somewhere in his life and you'll be sitting in your bedroom wondering why your suck a dickhead/dick sucker.

  • whats the drum in front of the snare called?

  • is it just me or does that small rack tom need tuning?

  • Yea, probably needed tuning.

  • ive been playing for more than 6 years, but my grip limits me in a lot of rolls and fills. i dont know exactly how to move my wrist and it gets a little bit stiff. can you tell me how to improve my grip? maybe how to have a looser grip?

  • Relax yourself, don't force the stick to play, let the stick play. Try working on balance between a good stick/head and stick/hand relationship. Get a feel for what you can do with your hands, and what the stick will naturally do with the drums. Understand what I'm sayin?

  • hah lol our name is sort of the same except my name has numbers and a diferent name

  • can anyone explain what is the point in paradiddles as opposed to going RLRLRLRL?

  • Well, when you play paradiddle-diddles and paradiddles you are combing double strokes and single strokes. The point is that you can move around the drums easier and faster, with less effort than if you single stroked everything. Know what I mean?

  • I alwasy kinda wondered that to. It does make it alot easier roll off from a tom to snare. When doing single stroke rolls I find it hard to move around the kit.

  • fucking immense u are totally awesome im learning parradiddles at moment but starting off really slow but cant wait til i can go that speed and do all phills

  • dont worry bout the speed at first, and its not all bout your wrist, you also have to get a feel for you fingers and the bounce of stick

  • The part I don't get, which is probably the easiest part of drums is how exactly do you use your wrists instead of your arms to play? I hear you are just supposed to let it drop or something, but I can't do it...

  • Basically you use your arms for positioning, you use a combination of wrists, fingers, stick leverage, and rebound for the stroke. It takes time and practice, but once you get a feel for playing, you'll know what I mean.

  • can some one tell me how to move my hands that quick

  • Practice! ; )

  • Nice, I've practising in the middle of the night so i dont play on my drums. I play on my AIR drums.

    Good work with the pattern

  • is RLRRLL easyier to learn and to do than RLRLRL in terms of spead?

  • Well, it's not as easy to learn. However, once you get it down, it is definitely faster than single strokes.

  • whats ur favorite type of symbols? cuz all i have right now is a basic Mark II set and im lookin for some good symbols. i was lookin at either Zildjians or Sabians

  • sabians have a higher quality and have a richer texture. get them. they dont crack as easy also

  • I'm not a drummer but this is a real interesting vid. (I wish drummers in my bands sounded like this - most of them sound like they're building a chicken coop behind me).

  • I like the sound of the batters on the snare and the toms but the 8 inch mount has a buzzie type ring to it. Also, what manufacture made the shells?

  • Well, the tuning of the 8" tom was giving me a lot of snare buzz. That's the buzz you are hearing. The snare in this video is a Pork Pie acrylic. The other drums are DW.

  • wow! just incredible, thank you for makin a cool vid and slowing stuff down... im sure it will help me alot!

  • yeah that's the beauty when one's able to stop thinking about it and let it flow practice makes perfect great lesson love the paradiddle diddle

  • its not LIKE sextuplet it IS sextuplet:)

  • You are right, but the pattern RLRRLL doesn't have to be in sextuplet form, however it is on this video! ;0)

  • isnt a paradiddle

    RLRR LRLL ?

  • Yep, it is RLRR LRLL. But I'm doing paradiddle-diddles. Which are RLRRLL or LRLLRR.

  • can u do like a right left right left pattern and hit them in the right place instead of doing a parradiddle?

  • I mean, you could do single strokes and do this. But it would take a lot more energy and also you wouldn't be able to play it as fast.

  • i'm able to play that fast using singles though lol.. :) but really i never knew this was the sticking pattern to do that. i always thought it was a paradiddle at rapid speed. thanks!

  • thx alot this will help me alot... what kind of snare is that?

  • Pork Pie amber acrylic. 13"x7"

  • that is very helpful i can use the double kick a little but it was always to fill in because i couldnt do that paradiddle thing you made look so easy but i am gonna practice it now i think i understand it a little better now thanks

  • Ahhh. I hate basic rudiments. I studied them to an extent, but I guess I should study some more. ;__;

  • Well, when you play them enough, they do become more fun, because you can then do more things. And you also won't have to think as much as well.

  • Ah, thanks. I'll try to enjoy them; Great lesson by the way. :)

  • Holy s...nare! Cool

  • cool vid
