  • Lol!!!!!!! Dude you rock!Reminds me the year back in the 80's at NAMM when hearing this blazing guitar solo coming from one of the rooms, tracked it down to the Moog room and it was Tom Coster wearing a moog liberation and running through 2 Hiwatt 4x12 cabs and a head. Was mind blowing as are your vids!!!Thanks for sharing on the tube.

  • @MrCloudswimmer Coster did it in a jazz keyboard class at foothill jr college for us back in the 80's. he was telling us it was the rack of (analog) effects he had screwed onto a piece of plywood that make the diff. with the sound. He said when he played , in his head, he was playing a guitar, not playing a keyboard that sounded like a guitar.

he said this affected the phrasing to make it more connected and guitar like. the "band of gypsy's" hendrix riffs he was waling said "yes, that's right"

  • and can you tell me some of the soft synths that you use

  • @CristovaoFerreira1 I use RealGuitar,RealStrat&Real LPC from musiclab.

  • Hello dear Jeff. Will you ever come back to Oslo? I still tel my frieds about you after 7-8 years. I really enjoy your work man. Hope to see you again .

  • @benders74 Soon! send me an email through my website, i will send dates and times.

  • what is the range of the pitch bend that you use?? and in guitar sounds??

Do you use a module or a softsynth??

  • @CristovaoFerreira1 The range is an Octave. I now use only "Soft synths for my guitar emulation.

  • Dr. Evil.....:P

  • @prince4d Perhaps::))

  • @KeytarJeff hi jeff i saw your demo on a agency website, just have to say i was suprised at the quality of your playing, and ,,,astounded at the sound and quality of your singing. you done sent me back to the shed for sure

on several levels. thanks for settting the bar high. love it.

  • @markmarktarmann Thanks for the praise! Very Much Appreciated!

  • Maybe its time to consider the keytar as a real entire instrument

...and to get a real handmade quality , the same as for guitars !

Instead of trying to buy those too expensive AX's on Ebay, I have planned to make my own wooden model based on my old Roland PC 180 ... with a similar conception than your custom model.

By the way, Jeff, who has built your wooden keytar ? Do they produce it only on demand ?

  • @stratogeovarius Considering "Keytaring" as it's own art form is LONG over due!!

My Keytars are made for me. There will be one of my series that will be sold on ebay in the coming weeks to see if there really is a demand for these. When your is finished, PLEASE send me some pictures, i would love to see it.

  • jeff can you tell me please how do you customize your keytars :)?

  • The ones that are just painted, i have done at an "auto body shop". The Wood ones are custom made for me.

  • Jeff! i saw many vids from keytar players, and you still the best.. and also you have a great voice!! Please do more vids!!

    Regards from URUGUAY!

  • Thank You MD::) If time permits, i shall be shooting a new video featuring LPC in the coming weeks.

  • @KeytarJeff good! keep the good work!

    Keep in touch,

  • what song were you doing at 1:59 ? ;] and loved the sound it was awesome!

  • Walk This Way...

  • @SunnyDays9 walk this way by aerosmith

  • has anybody heard about the new roland keytar?

  • hi jeff.......... great playing once again mate........ im waiting for my new roland ax syth to arrive, can i use effect pedals with this do u know? like a wah wah as its got a pedal link on bck????? i took your advice on realstrat also , but im yet to use or hear it as im still waiting for the keytar.

    thx jeff

  • The answer is yes either external or internal.

RealStrat has a GREAT software option for Wah Wah!

    Thanks for the comments!

  • Love your work!

  • Thank U VERY Much!

  • Excellent...and reminiscent of a harpsichord. It is great to hear people actually making music on these, rather than the bent random noise one usually hears associated with these rigs. Bravo!

  • Thanks, and you are correct. I'm quite pleased that more&more Musicians are taking a serious approach to this instrument.

  • holy crap...the guitar sound sooooo realistic, best synth ever....what model is that??

  • This Module was a KORG Trinity.

  • Saweet!!!

  • Thanks!

  • Coolest man alive!

    You're AWESOME!!!

  • Wow, glad u liked it!

  • this guy rocks harder than most rock guitarists!!

  • Thanks!!

  • hum... but the the acoustic-sound is from where? It wasnt build into the keytar or was it?

  • Real Guitar or Real Strat

  • That sound was from a KORG trinity module.

In an upcoming video, i shall redo some of this with the RealGuitar. Get ready::))

  • and I also like it how you started out slow then build it up. Not many ppl do that.

  • sounded like spanish music then went to rock and roll, ppl think keytars ae just meant for shredding! but you proved em wrong, nice work!

  • Thanks!

  • Jeff, saw you last night, (Soprano's), simply outstanding!!!!

  • Thanks Very Much! Live is ALWAYS Best!

  • can you recommend any music similar to the second demo here?

cheers, oh and you rule btw.

  • Thanks for the comment. Not sure what you mean about your question. please clarify.

  • the second tune you played with the rock organ sounds. where can I find more of that style?

  • That was my take on a blues rock classic. i would say classic rock/blues is a GREAT place to start..

  • Very nice! Can you tell me what kind of keytar the one is you got? I want one too (I've been playing keyboard/ piano for a long time, but this is the solution for being mobile on a stage!)

  • I use Ax-1's and now my Custom Keytar (s)

  • To be honest I really hate keytars. A keyboard should stand on a stand... :-) But that's my opinion, and you do some awesome thing on keys so I give you a 5*. Keep up the good work!

  • Thanks, and i do appreciate that you respect the effort!

  • waaaaaaa jajajajaja

  • Hi Jeff, we saw you in St-Maarten at Soprano's and we had a great time! You rock! Hope to see you in Canada someday!

    Keep it up!

  • Thanks Much& I hope to get to Canada as well!!

    Take Care!

  • i have that keytar haha :) AX1 it is :)

  • me too, it's in my videos. lol.

  • Incredible, and that's a 2 year old video! Jeff, could you explain what your left hand is doing? I presume that is an expression pad, but when you play the solo to Walk This Way it looks like you are doing guitar "hammer-ons". Thanks.

  • The left hand in the "Grey Strip" is where i do all my bending, the black bar is for vibrato. I also do vibrato in the grey area by tapping. These days i have a different approach when it comes to Hammer-ons &Pull-offs. I will illustrate that in an upcoming video, Thanks for the kudos!

  • how do you get that awesome guitar sound?

  • This video the sounds were custom i created with a KORG TR rack and a line 6 pod. i no longer use either.

  • hello i hav been looking to buy a new keytar but cant find them anywhere can u help me

  • I think ebay is about the only choice at the moment.

  • Roland AX-Synth is a new one. :)

  • Dude, you're awesome man, I can't believe my eyes, actually ears. What is the first song you play?

  • Thanks Very Much!! The start of this is my own intro to Santana's "Maria-Maria

  • wow your great! do you have a lot of keytars or do you paint the same one?

  • Thank''s for the comment. I own a few of these plus two from my signature series.

  • Frikking Christ dude where do your mad chops end? You are dangerous like Tank Abbot.

  • Thanks. and i do hope you meant a "pre Kimbo Tank.

  • Hey i have an Ax-1 myself and i'm just wondering what the wireless midi device you are wearing is called and how much it costs?

    Great vid by the way:D

  • Thanks.

Try "Patchman Music" i have no idea what they charge.

The Kenton Really is the Best!!

  • what sound module you use?

  • In this video, a KORG trinity module

  • the keytar

  • where did you get that

  • Get What?

  • that instrument i think he meant that lol

  • Your Probably right. So........ Bought it on Ebay . The paint job was done at my local Auto Body shop. Cost about $100.00.

  • 100 dollars my ass

  • The cost to paint the Ax was $100,00.

  • yea i figured... thought you meant the keytar first

  • awesome! he is great. electric guitar and everything.. sounds so real :P

  • Thanks Much!

  • wow what a cool module he must be using

  • In this video i was using a KORG TR rack Module.

  • HORRIBLE

  • Haha excellent play!

  • Thank You.

  • i have so much respect for you sire, my majesty, please let me know where to get one keytar.pleeeeez

  • Ebay will be the best choice until fall 09.

  • great playing!

  • Thanks!

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks::)

  • Excellent stuff!

  • MUch Appreciated.

  • amazinggg man.. you're the best keytarist! :)

    keep it up :P

  • Thanks Much...

  • nice playing dude.Way to shred that keytar.

  • Thank You!

  • this is about the greatest video i've seen of a keytar player.

I so wanted to buy this keytar myself, but they are not made anymore, and on the internet you pay about 800 euro for one :(

anyway, this is a really great keytar playing here :)

  • Thanks for a GREAT comment.

    Much Appreciated!

  • roland still makes a keytar.

  • I think roland stopped manufacturing it, you could get them once in a blue on E-Bay or Amazon but they go for one to two grand.

  • Not until fall 09 then the "Synth Ax will be released

  • AEROSMITH!!!!!!

  • oooh man you rock bro!.. i wish i could play like that... that is ridiculous i must say!

  • Thanks!

  • cool musician with cool voice!

  • y have they stopped making them

  • WOW! - that's all i can say. i _wish_ i could play so good...

  • Damn! You sing reaaaaally well!

  • Thanks Much!

  • jaja

lo que demuestra tocando con efectos de guitarra es que no es necesario ser guitarrista, ademas demuestra las miles de posibilidades que te da una Keytar,al igual que un teclado

  • toca la guitarra para eso

  • Really Great!!! what midi module/ synthetizer do you use?

  • In this video i used a KORG Triton Module

  • you cant get a cheap one. the cheapest you'll find is 1000 bucks. just make one like i did, and circuit bend a mini synth.

  • I need one of these! any1 know where i can get a cheap one? (doesnt have to be this exact one)

  • When you switch modes, say from chord mode to picking mode, or even from realguitar to realstrat, do you have to go back to your laptop to make the change or do you have a way of setting that on one of the keytar buttons so you can easily switch modes on the fly?

  • Yes i change patches on the fly.

Using Music Labs standalone application for RealGuitar called "Toolbox" you can do this and more.

These days i use Apple's "MainStage" and have done over 400 shows and happy to report -0- crashes!

Not only does it patch change BUT if you sustain a note or chord and change patches it's actually flawless.

And i do go back and forth between RG&RS sometimes in the same song

  • Waaaaaow.

    That was AMAZING.

That's a hybrid of two instruments that I love very much.

What model of Keytar are you using?

I'm very, very impressed by you. VERY.

  • I watched some of your work, Your quite talented yourself!

Thanks for the Very nice comments.

That is a Roland AX-1 I'm using in this video.

  • Wonderful! I can't decide if I like the instrument or the voice better.

  • Thank You Very Much!

  • what an amazing musician!...and vocalist!..

i usually listen to guitar stuff...but how could you not be amazed by this?..

  • Very Much Appreciated, Thank You!

  • thats fantastic! so so good, nice job!

  • Very Nice comments. Thanks.

  • This is blowing my mind. I'm not done watching the video yet. WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT I wonder.

  • same here

  • boy oh boy ur well talented my friend :)......ur a true musician and were in need of more people like u in this world!! loved the blue part specially ur vocals and the bass line!! awesome work keep it up :D

  • Your comment is VERY much Appreciated, Thanks!

  • Guitarists will totaly loose their jobs... damn

  • I thought that just works with guitars oO

    awesome

  • Wow great singer and keytar player :)

  • Thanks:)). I do appreciate the comment.

  • i got my roland ax-7 for my 12th birthday... you inspired me to get one... thank you very much!!!

  • What a GREAT comment!!

I'm a thinking you are going to be inspirational to a whole lot of players in your lifetime. Happy Birthday!

  • you keytar is roland?

  • Hi, it is a Ronald AX-1

  • You are absolutely amazing. I've been looking to purchase a keytar (because I'm tired of sitting stationary at a keyboard) and my friends always make fun of me. Anytime anyone insults keytars I shows them your videos and they always gain respect for the instrument.

If people knew you could play them like that and make them sound like that (and knew they were simply a keyboard around your neck) more people would use them.

  • I genuinely appreciate you taking the time to make this comment.

There is a perception of the instrument being only used for silliness.

I REALLY hope the coming generations of Keytarists will continue the instruments evolution. Good luck on finding a Keytar and mastering the techniques!

  • Hi there. I will be shooting a Tutorial Video called RealGuitar/RealStrat 101 in September. it will be free and available both here and the MusicLab website.

If you watch the "RealGuitar Video there is some screen annotations there. I hope this helps. if i can answer a specific question before than please email me,

    jeff

  • Waiting for the tutorial, I will add it to my channel, RealGuitar and Realstrat specific, with your permission.

Hope you include basic techniques for beginners to emulate rock/pop rythms & licks, as intermediate fun stuff. I love your videos so much!

  • Again, Thanks for the positive comments.

Yes, when its completed you can add it to your channel i'm even ok with the video(s) being linked to other external sites.

Please use the embeded link from here however.

  • Dear Jeff

Can you tell me, at least give me some clue, how to start learning to play as well as you do? I have basic keyboard techniques(classical training) and recently got Real Guitar and Real Strat. Do you offer any on-line video courses?

  • Really good , i really liked the aerosmith part sounded badass.

  • Cool, That is REALLY fun to play!

  • You're a monster on that thing; you could put many guitarists to shame!

  • not really we put him to shame i knwo many that can play liek this on a single guitar

  • Thanks Much for the Great comment!

  • do youknow where can i get a keytar , are you the one from teh video you rule!

  • That would be me. I think the BEST place to find one is still ebay.Take Care,

    jeff

  • Amazing Jeff, What a cool insturment too!

  • Thank U VERY MUCH!!

  • man you could have a whole band outta these things... me n my friend jeremy wanted to do a duo

  • I actually had a band called "Roadpig" which became "pig" we had two Keytarists, a KeyBassist, a Keyboard player &Drummer. We were also featured in KEYBOARD magazine.

For sure GO FOR IT!! We need more Keytar bands::) Good Luck!

  • Where I can find more info about your band?. I was dreaming with a keytar band since I've got RealStrat!

  • The band was featured in KEYBOARD magazine in the 90's

There will be new a new version of the band. I will be starting on that project towards the end of the year. The band was called "RoadPig" and then i changed the name to "Pig"

  • simply awesome

  • Thanks FGP!!

  • where do you get those different covers for your keytar. each video you have a different colored cover. where did you get your keytar.

  • Hi, i have mine painted usually from a "Car" paint shop.

Most were bought on ebay. I also now have a 'Custom Made" Keytar which will be seen in my next video. I hope to shoot that in September.

  • I get them painted at a car shop.

  • i must say dude i used to think that the bassist was the loser in the band, but you have completely shattered that idea. The "keytar" what a joke

  • Thank You All for the Recent comments, I REALLY do Appreciate them All,

    jeff

  • OMG!! I also play keyboard, and I must say WOW!! Nice job man, keep up the great work!!

  • Thank You Very Much!
