When operating the Lake Street "L" we were caught by an open bridge, we called it being "bridged" when it messed up our schedule. I wonder if that term is still in use.
I was personally unfamiliar with the term. In a quick look at the Chicago Tribune Archives, the oldest use was in an 1888 article. The most recent use of the term in the newspaper was in a 1979 "Action Line" column.
