@psifactor12 I have seen it before. sorry, no safety. And hard to aim.(the reason why be eliminated) Ancient used it to waste ammo on city wall. the guy is a fool to shoot it while running.
I just want to mention that ancient Chinese soldiers hardly used repeating crossbows on battlefields. Ancient Chinese soldiers had more powerful single-shot crossbows.
The repeating crossbow was used by ancient Chinese civilians for home defence.
@TheXanian Is it really, I thought it was created for the militairy. By the strategist Zhuge Liang. look it up, some of these crossbows were adapted in later centuries. For example a soldier of the Qin-dynasty was founded with a crossbow who could fire 3 arrows at the time. Maybe it was more of colteral damage with the poison so they weaken them. The cho ko nu crossbow has a rich militairy tradition in China, its not a weapon for civilians nevertheless it could be used by civilians
No, the repeating crossbow was not used for military purposes, at least not to a large scale. On the contrary, it was used for civilian purposes, such as personal defence or home defence.
The Qin crossbow that could fire three arrows at the same time was a different type of crossbow, not the repeating crossbow.
The ancient Chinese soldiers used regular single-shot crossbows and catapults.
@TheXanian How have you come with this information, the only thing i know is that in the time of the three kingdoms they militairy used it. And would you refer please cause you can say that they have far more powerful weapons but where do you refer to? You say ancient but what time? And the Qin crossbow is based on the crossbow of Zhuge laing
There is no evidence to prove that the crossbow used by Zhuge Liang was the repeating crossbow. The repeating crossbow that we see today was probably invented during Sung Dynasty or Ming Dynasty, a long time after the Three Kingdoms.
The Qin crossbow was not based on the crossbow of Zhuge Liang, because Qin Dynasty was several hundred years before the Three Kingdoms period.
I'm referring to the Chuang Zi catapults used during Tang Dynasty and Sung Dynasty. These siege catapults were very powerful and they could launch huge arrows. They could penetrate almost everything, even brick walls. People could not load this siege catapult; they would need a winch to load this catapult.
Don't try to argue with me cause I'm Chinese, and I know more about Chinese history than you.
That's because it isn't powerful. You need to draw the weapon back by hand, and this means the crossbow has to have a low draw-weight. To compensate, the Chinese tipped the bolts with poison; coupled with the high firing rate, it's an ideal weapon against groups of unarmoured peasants. However, if you took up this weapon against... say, a single European knight in heavy armour, the bolts would bounce off the armour and you'd likely meet a painful end.
@IAmTheStig320 i think they had a bigger 2 person (one aim one pump) version of this, but even so the actull power of teh weapon was still questionable
@DavidUmstattd The repeating crossbow had sacrificed range of penerative power for rapid firing. That's why the bolts have poison. It is also a weapon of terror. Imaging hundreds or thousands of poisonous bolts flying towards a charging army or cavalry and stop them from further advancing. A mere scrath from the tip of bolt would kill a man even though he was wearing armor.
@Naba008 A trained medieval crossbowman could get out one bolt per minute. This gets out roughly 50 times as many bolts, poisoned. It's not as long range, or as accurate, but it works, and was the first weapon of the time to be able to hold more than one piece of ammunition at once. It was cheap, and could be mass produced. Don't compare a redneck's double barrel shortgun to an AA12
I actually got to fire one of those when I was kid. Back then I really didn't understand the actual purpose of that weapon since I did notice that it really did have piss poor range and "speed"/didn't have penetration power. Well, cool to know that that weapon's "primary" purpose was to just injure/poison the foes in urban environment.
EPIC CHINESE WIN! THANK YOU ZHUGE LIANG!
