@juancosaco:thanks for posting this scene from a ridiculously good film. @firestartertwistedfi: try "the unbelievable truth" or "henry fool" or "the book of life"...pretty sure joy will await you
Man, I love this movie. I watched it twice like 15 years ago and still remembered this scene clearly. I can't be alone in loving this movie, it's so crazy that you can't buy it in region-free DVD. Thanks for uploading, juancosaco!
: D This is rather intriguing - I love it when she falls and he catches her. It doesn't feel real, but I think I liked the surreal touch it has to it. Good stuff, : )

I know Hartley is an important auteur, and has earned his place in world film and all that... but HOLY F**KING CHRIST I HATE EVERYTHING HARTLEY EVER DID. This kind of unforgivable Ethyl Merman vaudeville acting and writing needs to be bludgeoned into a furry, bleeding, tragically unrecognizable mass like a baby seal. It's everything that Garrison Keillor is self-deprecating about. It's William Shatner with pretentions of "art" in quotation marks. It's ham-handed and pompous and it must die.
I'm really, really sorry. I didn't mean to be a dick. Yeah, Hartley comes up with emotionally realistic characters. Granted, his mis en scene is nowhere near as good or clever or painterly as Takeshi Kitano (those long beach crane shots in Sonatine... *wow*), and I sort of always hate the merciless flogging of dialogue-as-cheap-greek-chorus, and the cartoon emotionalism is excruciating. But it's great stuff, if you like that sort of thing. So again, all apologies.
