Downhill ski racing at Val d'Isere in 2009

Does anybody know what is the place in all of the World Cup events where skiers go the fastest? Here I've seen 129 km/h but I'm pretty sure it's nothing special. Can someone help me?

Well now I have seen the very best in action and they are all so very good. Didier Cuche ist just a more conditioned racer but than he has been tops for a long time and knows when to give it away. Only after you have shown the world and than you are still so good! Just great, I admire you!

why is it called down hill skiing? is there up hill skiing?

@benohudo With crosscountry skis you can ski upwards. If the slope is very steep, you sort of walk with the skis on, unless you prefer to run. I "up hill ski raced" to the top of a low mountain/very high hill in Lapland once. Healthy exercise! Took about 45 minutes. Coming down a slope is always shaky since crosscountry skis are like two narrow sticks. Took about 10 minutes for me to come down. Ended in a crash.

@corkoram actually, in reply to benhudo, it's called downhill racing because you are virtually skiing downhill with very little "checking" to get through tight gates....you are running balls to the walls....there's nothing like it in the world...you are running so fluid it's impossible to tell how fast someone is traveling on a video unless the racer loses it....then and only then can you fully respect this sport....
