Is much more capable than it's historic predecessors (C-7A Caribou, C-123 Provider) which no longer fly in the USAF, and more capable than the C-27A or Sherpa, which is evidently going back into the US Army budget due to USAF lack of enthusiasm for the C-27J Spartan.
Is gaining notice with many potential export customers (including the RAAF) therefore could be in demand for some decades . . . jobs for US aerospace workers come to mind?
The fact that the C-27J Spartan is the perfect disaster relief aircraft for the states (e.g., perfect Air National Guard aircraft) which means it costs less to garrison and support for whatever purpose.
The C-27J Spartan has tremendous maintenance commonality with the C-130J by design at taxpayers expense for lower maintenance costs durring its lifetime.
C-27J Spartan - Cost Less, Are More Effective, Efficient & Capable
You can buy two C-27J's for the cost of one C-130J. Couple that with deliver a like load for 1/3 of the cost compared to a C-130 flying the same mission. Couple that with 'getting into airfields too short to support C-130 operations' and we have a cost effective solution that meets the USAF mandate to support the US Army in austere unimproved airfields.
@discofishing I could only guess to replace older models.... or for extra manouvreability over C130's... but I cannot fully answer that question as I am 1) Not from the USA and 2) Not in the Airforce
Backflip? Looked more like a loop to me.
