She's like Paul Newman: beautiful, legendary, genius, humble, modest...she is proof. as he was. of a movie star who isn't a fame-monger, is private, and doesn't let celebrity corrupt. She's down-to-earth and is a proud mother. Paul and Jo Anne were doting parents and not puffed-up with pride even though they had plenty reason to have outrageous ego.

Actually, Meryl makes a good point. The so-called celebrities are the ones that "animate our imagination"; in other words, allow us to build/imagine our own ideal versions of them.

The real measure of Mr. Newman's character is that he's loved, respected and missed by the people who really knew him.

And boy, he never stopped being able to stir our imaginations.

Paul was a very special man. We lived in the same town in CT. He didn't have any airs and would speak to all regardless. Seeing him grocery shopping or pumping his own gas. What Meryl says is so true. Her emotions are real. He will be missed. RIP.
