You just need a synth, a midi pickup and a month to figure out how to make it work. I'm not very familiar with it but I heard that Fractal Audio makes a really cool pre amp called Axe-FX (I think that's it) that has tons of sounds. Expensive though.
Are you using the sound patches in the GR-33, or are you using midi from a computer software? I have some stuff in my featured vid with midi sounds from GarageBand.
Useful if you are used to playing guitar. I'm much more used to playing keyboard and so fail and anything with strings :), doesn't stop me collecting them though...
okay, so im thinking of making my guitar into a midi guitar, does this in theory mean i can then use it as a controller for any synth within my DAW. exactly the same as one would with a keyboard controller? sometimes it seems liek they only work with the software that comes with the usb > midi guitar interface. ie. presets and i hate presets!!!
The GK-3 is a pickup that has a universal clamp built onto it. Plug a chord into the guitar jack and back into the guitar input on the GK-3.
The GK-3 also has a pickup bar that you have to mount under the strings of your guitar near the bridge. There is a 13 pin cable that plugs into the GK-3.
At this point you have a Guitar Synth signal coming out of the 13 pin connector, and a normal guitar signal coming out of the guitar.
The 13 pin cable goes into a Synth. The Roland GK-33 is a Synth.
DUDE... This looks like a lot of fun. I wanna get one of these MIDI signal converters for my bass and plug it into my Moog Taurus III Synthesizer, you reckon i could do that? xD
@TheBlackxism oh i've seen people type in "short form" often but it still makes you look like a stupid person. i mean is it really that much harder to type out the whole words, the extra like 10 letters.
@AcousticTransmission if your brain works on wiindows 97 its a problem decephering my short formz!! so my friend next time i write in full form for you ok
I'm looking to purchase the GK-3, but I can hardly find information about what it connects to. Does the midi signal eventually get converted to a USB-cable that my Mac can recognize as MIDI device, or does this only work with Roland synths?
There is a thing called a Roland G10 or G20 (sorry can't remember) that I have and it converts the signal to midi. You have to have that for it to work.
@eef2 the cheap way is to get the gk 3 and a little machine called G 120 roland which will produce midi signals detected by computers.Still the g 120 has no sounds except the plain guitar one and transmitt only the signal of the guitar itself. But can be connected to any synt module or synth keybord and access all the sounds that the synth can offer
It's an Ibanez with a Roland midi but any guitar will work as long as you have the pickup and either a real or virtual synth. The guitar just acts as a midi controller.
It's depends on the patch you are using but yes, slightly. Organs track very well though. Violins sucks, pads are good, drums are just strange but cool and banjos work really well too.
dude can you tell me how you do that cz i cant hear anything when i plug my mic or guitar into my midi controller but i can still hear all the sound from the keys when i use fl studio or something
Dude, you want technical support from me on youtube? Sorry but you will have to go the store where you bought it for help. It took me forever just to figure out my some rig. I would love to help but it would be impossible.
@RabidGaming Kill switch isn't all he does (although he does use it a lot; technically it's not a real kill switch, he manipulates two pickup volumes).
i get hoe the touch sensitive ones work, but this is like having a regular guitar plugged into a synthesizer software, so i don't get how playing a note on the string tells it that it is that note exactly :S
With the right VST:s, this shit is so goddamn awesome that my mind explodes with all the cool possibilities... Liked the saxophone and the sitar! Man I want one of those...
@Gorgoliath the pickup on the guitar is has a separate channel for each of the strings. each channel goes to a computer for pitch detection. the computer sends the information to its enternal synthesizer or through a midi port to a synth or sequencer!
@hedeep Yeah. I'm sure those things exist. Theres like almost anything u cud think of on the internet now.. I tried searching some and i found something called AKoff. Search it on google and it'll be there.
@hedeep its like a pickup you install on to your guitar. It probably does recognize frequencies and convert them into the right notes. Thats my theory but it could be something else since i don't know much about it.
@Sjejse u sure? looks like a midi pickup hanging off the end there... there ARE midi guitars... Starr Labs makes some really badass ones... and interestingly Yamaha has a self-teaching guitar which is similair
Simply put? It takes the signal from the guitar and translates it to a trigger, just like when you connect your keyboard to your computer and you are able to play whatever you want... all it is is just timing of triggers being translated from your guitar..
You can make it sound like anything, including guitar of course
