Yeah, Thats a nice old truck there, but Im not a fan of the stack. I think its too tall for one, but I prefer a curb dump with a 6 or 8 inch tip. You get much better sound with the longer open pipes. Ill post a video response so You can hear what that setup sounds like. It IS a NICE Clean old truck though dude.
I wanted to be different. A lot of people who put stacks on their trucks cut it roof height. People either love or hate how tall the stack is on this thing =P
hey man how can you be a gm fan and say cummins is the best. i am a huge gm fan and duramax is the best by far. all of them from the lb7 to the lmm. my whole family drives cummins and they are constantly breaking down.
I'm just realistic bud. I'm obviously a GM fan if I picked a 6.5 over the Cummins. The truth is the Cummins has beefier internals and can just handle way more power then the 6.5.
If you want to get technical though the Cummins and Powerstroke isn't even made by Dodge and Ford. The old 6.2 was a Detroit Diesel but the 6.5 is actually a homegrown made by GM diesel engine.
I agree with you... I share the love for all engines diesel. I have owned GM power for the past 10+ years, had a 6.5 natural residing in a K5 Blazer with 3 inch straightpipe duals. Sounded crazy. However, had to retire the old Blazer since it got too rusty underneath and I'm not a welder. I am stuffing my 6.5 into a K1500 Sub, so the engine stays happy, it now gets electronic controls and a turbo. I have owned 7.3 IDI Ford and Powerstroke 1st gen., and I want a Cummins IDI someday.
The DMAX came out in 2001 and thats when the crazy Diesel Power war started. Too bad they don't sound as good as the old ones but I think the old folks like how they are quiet =P
Diesels were all about noise, that was one of the "privileges" of being a diesel owner back in the 90's!! I still like the grumpy sound of my dad's old 96 1st gen Powerstroke, and Cummins during that period were just as noisy (the old 12 valvers). But I like the smoothness of the Duramax, don't get me wrong. I would love to have one in a newer body Sub, that would be the perfect family and vacation rig IMHO.
Beautiful truck! Very clean. Really like the wheels. Im a bigger fan of a short single stack in the bed of trucks (just my opinion) but it still looks good, and sounds awesome!
Yeah I enjoy walkaround videos more then videos just showing stills. This was the first walkaround video I made and theres a few things I could of done to make it better.
I didnt really talk about specs, I didnt show the engine and I didnt do a drive. I only used 4:14 instead of the full 10 minutes youtube allows.
Glad you added that 'don't drive while watching DVDs'
Although that is the whole reason they install that feature. I can see why they do it, but most poeple know not to watching something while driving, its just asking for trouble.
Tidy truck man, love the stack! Isn't it handy when where's a tripod sitting jsut where you need it ;)
I know your pipe is bent but I'll ask you anyways, do the straight up pipes that aren't bent at the top like yours if water gets in them is that bad. like from rain and snow?
It'll take a ton of water to plug it up but I can see snow plugging it up. They sell rain caps for straight cut pipes and its pretty cool when its idling cause it just kind of flaps then when you start moving the smoke blows the caps out of the way.
I have a question on my dads 06 infiniti m35x you can only enter text and only play movies while the car is stooped but the parking brake dos'nt have to be on it just has to be stooped. Do u no how we can make it so we can watch DVD and use the text entering on the gps (came with the car its the premium model) THX!
damn rims for $100....thats a steal! i would shorten the stack, and ya shoulda got one w/ 4x4, but still a pretty cool truck. nice video! how does that thing smoke so much for bein pretty much stock? damn....thats surpriseing!
If I had a blow torch I would cut off about 3 or 4 inches off of it. I actually do like it tall though. A lot of the diesel crowd gets the stubby stacks and you can barely tell they have them.
Hey John, have you thought about puttin' on a four inch lift? I decided to wait 'till after college to buy a 6.5L Chevy 1 ton and later drop in a twin turbo cummins. I think it'll be a sick truck.
I'm just going to lift the front 2 inches since you probably noticed the back sits higher then the front. After that I'll get 285/75/16 tires instead of the 265's on them.
I want to keep my 20+ Miles per gallon on the freeway and my dogs cant jump so I actually have to carry them into my truck so a lift would just make that harder.
I have 2 adopted mutts from the animal shelter. Ones 8 years old, 4 years ago when I didnt have the truck he would of been able to jump in it. I also have a Pit/Akita mix. He's built really weird and cant jump so I dont feel like lifting an 80 pound dog in a lifted truck each time I take them out =P
I have seen real tacky stuff...one thing that annoys me is fake side vents on a truck, and especially stick-on useless hood scoops. Quite a few of those here :(
At first I wasn't a big fan of stacks, but I'm starting to give in. They look awesome. Like a mini big rig lol
Will post a vid soon. My next mods are strobes and some pretty cool doorsill lamps. (you'll see) can't wait to put them in!
Watching your vid again, I love how much the 6.5 smokes!! :D
Yeah i saw them lambo doors on a civic the other day. I just shook my head...yeah amber would look great. But please don't put in the blue ones that makes the truck look like a christmas tree lol. Man way too many people up north have no taste; I saw the blue ones and they look really...weird...
You know what the problem is here? They finance Lambo doors now so any high schooler can get them for $23 a month.
Im getting the amber lights that splice in with your turn signals so itll act as a turn signal too. Im going for the Mini Big rig look as you mentioned. I want to level out the front too, 2 inch lift.
Im not doing engine mods, I just want a reliable truck. My truck has 88,000 miles and at 100,000 I know theres a lot of things to replace. Getting ready for that. Itll be costly
Financed Lambo doors...now that's got "bad idea" written all over it! Your running lights sound pretty neat, make sure to post a video of those when you get them installed.
Yeah I hear ya with engine mods. I think you should leave it, besides it already sounds real good! The turbo spools up really good!
All I wanted was the turbo spooling down after you rev sound, I got that and thats all I need.
Dude theres Lambo doors on everything here. You should see all the high schoolers in autozone parking lots all lined up with thier lambo doors all up. Thats all their lunch money allowance right there, Lamborghinis must be rolling in their graves =P
That is a beautiful sound. For some reason my camera won't capture it on my F-350 but maybe I will be upgrading soon.
Man 23$ a month they'll get rid of the car and still have to pay that for years to come...I'd have better things to do on my truck or car then to put Lambo doors... anyways!
Just noticed how crowded your comments page is getting:P
My camera is decent but dude this things so loud Im considering a muffler. They have one that fits right in the smoke stack. I love the sound though and dont want it to quiet down too much. You really cant drive with the windows down though =/
For $23 a month itll take them like 7 years to pay off their lambo doors =P
Did you get the pic of that tacky F150 with the fake chrome vents and spoiler?
The only thing done to it is I swiss cheesed the airbox, took off the turbo muffler added a KandN filter and used a 4 to 3 inch reducer to attach the stock exhaust to the stack.
thats how i've got my stack attached. i didn't swiss cheese the airbox. you've got the newer style airbox, i've got the flat panel filter still. it does however have a Banks Ram-air elbow inside the fender and a Banks Filter so she can breathe as best as possible with the flat panel filter. i'm still looking for a round style filter box.
i need a lift as well. did you do the work in your driveway? i hate doing that as my driveway is still all rocks. i've got access to lifts at school but i can't leave the truck overnight so many big jobs are out of the question.
Yeah man, It took me an hour to yank the exhaust out, had to do it on the floor then I woke up with a strain or pulled muscle in the back. I was hurting for a week so I had to finish my project a week later.
Anything done to it other then that stack?
