I feel that Marketa, while singing this song, brings to mind a time where this song really suits a time she went through. Which, to me, is why she doesn't sing the last part, rather just sways with her guitar. Like, she's gone back there in her mind, while being lost in the lyrics, moment, song. She might be re-living it, and letting the song play through it. My comment and thoughts.
@nx130 Play the song and jam along with it. You'll figure it out. Even if you don't play it exactly the way they do, If it fits, and you feel it, it will be right!
They remind me of The Audreys. An Adelaide band. I love this song, well done on the recording and color also. The ending is beautiful. I can understand why she doesn't play and just hangs her head.
NPR just aired another interview with this duet. In the latest interview Markéta even talks in detail about this particular song, I Have Loved You Wrong. Then they played 7 songs for the staff and is on a video named, "Swell Season Tiny Desk Concert" at the NPR website.
By the way, for a MUCH better video of this song, search YouTube for Swell Season Forgive Me Maonlai.
I've downloaded the entier Tiny Desk set from iTunes and they don't play I Have Loved You Wrong. The best vocals I've heard on this song are the Columbus show from Sep 2008 on played last night dot come
this song caught me completely unawares when the outro part kicked in. it blew me away and now i absolutely love them now. such talented songwriters. i wanna see them live!
An extra verse added, nice. Marketa has an amazingly beautiful voice and the recording with her own added harmonies, with Glen and her harmonies chanting "On my mind" is so hypnotizing, you don't want them to stop singing it.
Their music takes on a separate life of their own, and as we listen, we suddenly realize that the songs have become our teachers & healers. Whether their music is about finding lost hope, the power of forgiveness, or accepting the imperfections of others (and yourself), it never fails to be heartfelt & honest. Music has the potential to soothe the heart, heal the soul, and lift the spirit, but its quite rare these days to find a duet that has the unique chemistry to do all three.
Forgive me lover For I have sinned For I have done you wrong For I have hurt Beyond repair When tears occurred No I didnt care Forgive me lover For I have sinned For I have loved you wrong But this estranged organ in my chest Still beats for you It will not rest, so Meet me in our secret place When the time has come
And rest your head In my lap And Ill lead you out of your own trap And Ill show you how much You have missed through the Time we werent right So forgive me lover For I have sinned For I have let you go But Youve been every now and then on my mind yeah Every now and then on my mind yeah On my mind
she wasn't able to finish the song. during the show they played 5/16, they told us she was having trouble with some allergies so she might be in and out of songs. the full version of this song that she sings to the end is on youtube, which was during their ny concert on 5/19.
I was wondering why she didn't sing at the end. In a way I liked the mystery mixed with the image of her just swaying in the middle of the stage while everyone surrounding her sang.

This makes me laugh. Was it this version (live) ? It'd put me to sleep in any test if I heard this. Good taste in music your teacher btw.

Hauntingly beautiful with simple lyrics that evoke the mystery of what could have been with any lover you let go...but maybe shouldn't' have. - Mika

This song is hypnotic, with that sparse piano and the mallet drum part. When I heard it for the first time, I was pinned to my seat.
