  • lol dude you skipped the fatility...oh wow so the sega cd has the bodies at the pit? didnt know that. I wish my sound worked I wonder if the noks clap on lvl 1 and this is more acrcade like

  • well in the genesis version there is a cheat to activate blood and graphic fatalitys

  • For some odd reason, the only differences I see between the Sega CD version and the Genesis version is the fact that they added the blood(Why else would there be body parts down in the pit?)and the sound. I do know there is a code for the Genesis version which turns on the blood and original fatalities.

  • dude is it saying SUB-ZERO or SUB-ZERG?

  • next time try hitting reptile instead of just letting him whip your ass.

  • scorpion?

  • This version of MK was bullshit.

  • can you beat reptile?

  • @Dedamn666 Yes, but it's pretty hard.

  • @Dedamn666 Most certainly after I payed about 50 bucks in quarters to the Arcade Machine.

  • Good version, but the music is lame, check out the amiga version of the game. The music rocks, rest is poor.

  • @RetroStacja It was a poor system dude what did you expect?

  • The music was 10x better on CD and so was the sound effects.

  • lol you got wasted =/

  • the thing that I don't get if from a visual standpoint every time you get knocked down in this area you go through the spikes..... so why not make this fight a sudden death by who ever gets knocked down first loses?

  • @BillyCauseyjr Because then it'd be too easy to win. The needs of game mechanics outweighs the needs of reality in the VG world. :p

  • @BillyCauseyjr : Then nobody would want to fight there! What you're asking is the same as "why can't i do a fatality at the start of the fight?" which is not fun for anyone.

  • Green ice?

  • Sega money hungry whores ;)

  • GamePro gave LOW scores for this program. Real waste!

  • green scorpion+green sub zero=reptile

  • @kuluku well no, it's yellow scorpion + blue sub zero = green reptile...im pretty sure in the color world you get green from mixing blue & yellow...but then again i failed pre-school....twice...

  • @iran2025 oh, I mean this reptile has mixed martial arts of sub-zero and scorpion, and looks like sub-zero or scorpion in green outfit.

  • @iran2025 I hear that. I'm an insomniac, so i failed nap time.

  • Gee, I wonder what happened to Reptile? He was so strong in the 1st MK and in MK 2 he wasn't so hot. I remember he was the 1st character I picked when I first played MK 2 but that's about it.

  • great port of this game

  • if it is Repitle, how in the love of fuck they didn't name it as Repitile???. Why is it Scorpion?!?!...

  • socrpion? LOL

  • wow looks just like the arcade version

  • subzeros animation before the rounds start is something else. very smooth compared to genesis

  • indeed, actually in the genesis version sub-zero and scorpion shared the same stance. which reptile has in this video, but it has quite a few more frames of animation over the genny version.

  • Interesting how it cuts from round 1 to 3, also that the life bar says scorpion but that's just the way it's programed.

  • I honestly feel bad for the people that bought the Sega CD version of MK when they already owned the Genesis version. The differences between the two titles (outside of the audio) are minimal at best, and definitley not worth paying a nice chunk of change for.

  • They took out "Excellent" added loading time, Sub Zero sprite, certain sound effects, made the music worse, actually lost a couple sound effects, added almost all the voice effects, yet they don't always play at the right time, added the Shang Tsung theme music, which isn't selectable in sound test, and removed Goro's four arm beat down.

Genesis version easily wins, the only notable low points of that one are the lack of Sub Zero sprite, Raiden lightning sound effects, and JC/Kano "Yea!"

  • you can get the game as low as 5 bucks..not a big deal. the better animations are worth the purchase IMO..

  • @Forzaabruzzo Yeah, but it's okay now for curosity. Now you can buy it cheap, or play it on an emulator...or do BOTH: play the cd ON the emulator. They didn't though fare much better with the sequel's "upgrade" to the 32X. All they did was change the colour textures to make it look better. That was it. No sound or game play improvement.

  • @Forzaabruzzo And not to mention the loading times and the same theme that plays.

  • @Forzaabruzzo even worse was the piece of shit 32x that made your sega cd worthless and made you realize that 32x was also crap...

  • @Forzaabruzzo

sounds like you might as well be talking about the PS3 and xbox360

  • shouldnt reptile's ice ball turn sub zero green?

  • ????????

  • i wonder what would happen if u beat him

  • You get a large point bonus for defeating him

  • But to do that, you haveta Finish him. Just beating him, doesn't work

  • lol i have the old mortal kombats.. :P there realy hard . for real. try them and prove me wrong

  • I noticed that in all versions of MK1 except for The SNES version Reptile's Health bar says Scorpion and not Reptile that's just stupid. well anyway good vid

  • ok here's my question are you letting Reptile win? Or is he really that freaking hard?

  • He was very easy to beat, i believe this person was letting them win. No lie, I remember play the genesis version and jade was on there. I couldn't beleive what i was seeing.

  • I believe you're talking about Mortal Kombat II.

  • those old mortal kombats are pretty hard dude. try them, you'll find out. i have them for the megadrive or in us called genesis

  • @NLmaxdamage the first ones actually very easy especially compared to mk ultimate 3 (sho kahns unbeatable) and for some reason on mk2 on the genesis the characters dont move right and its really difficult to pull off moves (on mine anyway) probably coz of the 6 button pad

  • Okay, my bad, they did spell his name "Reptile" on the SNES.

  • I love how Reptile's ice blasts are green as well. palette swaps can be a bastards sometimes.

  • he obviousy wasnt trying and they spelled raidens name rayden at the beginning of the clip

  • Reptile came a long away from being a repainted Scorpion with some Sub Zero moves...

  • Reptile in MK1 was a Green Sub Scorpion. Scorpions "Harpoon" and Sub's "Green Ice Ball". In the Genesis version, he's even named "Scorpion". lol

  • in snes you would be able to se REPTILR in the healt-meter,.. or was it on arcade? haha

    classic game

  • While the character was named Reptile, he just recycled Scorpion's name in the life bar (the character was a palette swap of Scorpion who had both ninjas' moves, and was double speed).

  • oh. I. C.

    thanks.

  • why are half The corpses from the original Pit Removed from this one?

  • The Genesis version had none of the blood or corpses, and the SNES version had fewer spikes, both were done for censorship purposes. The Sega CD restored some of the detail from the Arcade, but obviously not all of it.

  • Great 4 me this is the best home console of mk1

  • at least sub 0 isnt a repainted scorpion.

  • its funny how they were able to put "reptile wins!" but they couldnt put his name on the life meter

  • @CashMoneyBlood thats how u kno midway was in a rush to release this game long ago

  • @CashMoneyBlood In SNES version his lifebar says Reptile

  • Only good thing about the Sega CD version is the pit background which had all the dead bodies and the gore on the spikes similar to the arcade version.

  • So the spikes were bloodier than the arcade, but had fewer bodies? Interesting.

One thing I noticed in the arcade game is that rarely (and this was one of my "wow" moments seeing the arcade game fresh in the old days) the game over screen instead of showing Goro's Lair will scroll down slowly from the pit to the bottom with all the carnage. Scary!

  • Holy crap! Someone else remembers that? I was thinking about that the other day and trying to get it to happen in an emulator but I couldn't remember how to make it happen.

  • Why is reptile named ''Scorpion''?

  • That's how it was in the arcade too. Reptile is made by just loading Scorpion and turning him green, making him faster, and adding Sub-Zero's moves.

  • I use Kega and by configuring the bios files i can play any sega cd game. i hope this helps.

  • How does it Sega CD works on Gens emulators? I have a problem on emulators to use a Sega CD bio files and its not working! Basically, Sega CD version have a upgrading of the Sega Genesis version.

  • Do you have the BIOS files? If not, just search for it on google.

  • And the bios files need to be configured inside Gens properly too, to work. It will recognize a real Sega CD disc in your drive, an image dump of the game on your hard drive, or a burned copy in your drive. You just have to set it up properly.

  • I am looking for the instruction booklet for the Sega c.d. version of this, if anybody has a copy they want to sell, hit me up.

  • I have the instruction booklet. I can scan in the pages and put them on the internet if you want.

  • Thanks, it would be appreciated.

  • This is still a fun port of mk1 because it uses arcade sound with sega genesis graphics and i like that kind of thing. never was a graphics king of guy. One thing that probe done wrong was this: they put Pit music in the courtyard and put the courtyard music in the warrior shrine.

  • Reptile is easy on the SNES version of MK1, he dont walk fast and he dont use his special move often

  • Reptile owns! O_O

  • Reptile was in the genesis version too. I remember screaming like crazy when I had found it so many years ago.

  • your good.

  • Were you even trying? You didn't even hit Reptile once.

  • i see that they still repeated the 'scorpion' name mistake on this version

  • Yeah, this is basically an upgrade of the Sega Genesis version.

  • Yeah, just like in the arcade!

  • Reptile got a Double Flawless.
