This is a sick interpretation! Love it! It not quite correct, and I don't care too much to be honest either - many of the liberties you took worked perfectly, but there were just one or two 'wrong' notes that I'm sure you realize could be corrected. I improv on Bach lots on the violin, and as long as you do it 'in line' with key and tempo to a certain extent, it sounds good.
I love the haunting/ambient mood this gives. It was rich in what most versions of this lack; expression.
@guitarjedi312 Stop speaking out of your arse, he's one of the pioneers of equal temperament, was an advocate of improvisation, and liked to transpose music for different intsruments. That being said, I didn't enjoy this video at all, messy with lots of wrong/extra notes and it really doesn't need to be tapped. I suppose at least it's a little different from the thousands of other bass versions of this movement here, play some other cello suites bass players!
I like how you seem so relaxed and at ease, like you were blowing bubbles (or some other mildly enjoyable simple task, forgive the somewhat ridiculous example). It just seems to flow from your fingers. It's something I wish I could achieve with my Violin, I've been playing for a while, but only when I'm super at-ease can it occur.
Props man, this rocked! (in a very classic way ^_~*)
Do you people know anything about Bach, or the Baroque period in general?
During the Baroque period, composers EXPECTED performers to adopt their piece and make it their own. No, there is not a specific way to play Bach - because Bach didn't specify. He gave us the notes and the rhythm. The dynamics and timbre are left to the performer.
Classical period and Romantic period? Totally different story.
Well Bach wrote it for a cello, if you hadn`t noticed yet. This is a bassguitar, so it is by definition already not being played "in a precise way". Music is art, and as long as it sounds good, you can tap, slap, whatever - bite the strings if you want to.
@klickBG I'm pretty sure they would, considering just the fact that you can get a bunch of effects etc. Hell, I'm even pretty sure that had Bach lived in our time, he'd written some of the greatest metal pieces ever heard, but hey, that's what we have Mustaine for, eh? :D
@TheC1 he was a traditionalist and considered pretty 'stuck in the past' in his time, so I guess that his music wouldn't be much different :P If Beethoven had the instruments around today on the other hand, or Mahler...
A nice attempt, but, you might want to take a listen to a few celloist play this. Try to make your dynamics more even and transition more smoothly and itll be really good. Also youre emphasizing some notes that are meant to be more of an after thought...like an embelishment of sorts. =-) like i said listen to celloist and youll get it perfect.
No i am almost sure that he doesnot have a tab for this. If you want the sheet music, go to a sheet music store or get it online. If you cant read music then figure it out. It's originally for cello, so get that music.
hey man whats up. I got ur tab/sheet music and im learning how to play this beautiful piece. Im not tapping tho. anyways i used to be able to read sheet music when i was playing cello back in my school days but i think everyone knows that if u dont use it, u loose it. but hey im getting there. thanks!
well you dont get that overtone that you would if you tapped. I like this piece with a little solidity and i get that when i dont tap. But this dude can play it like this and its still awesome. I had to "alter" the tabs that he had but the outcome is still the same. i suggest everyone to try and play this song. i use it to warm up
Pretty neat version, and very nicely played. But it really sounds better with the notes properly separated as it was written, rather than sustaining the chords. Just play it fingerstyle :)
This IS the Prelude from the Suite I in G-Major for Cello (BWV1007)... and I never saw Stu playing this piece... the one he plays is in fact another Prelude (C-Major). The guy who plays THIS one (in G-Major) is John Patitucci.
ah well i see what you mean, i thought you meant i was playing stu's arrangement on this video... i know he's done it earlier, but when i did this i hadn't heard his version.
Nice approach! I like your changes too. They add some unexpectedness to a piece that I've heard a brazillian times. I'll post a video response of my version from about 10 years ago. Just audio with some picturees.
That was beautiful, man. All the harmony flooding in with that was just stunning.
