I used to train for figure skating at the Ice Palace back in like 93 when I was 10. It's crazy to see video of it now... I spent sooo much time there. Back when they had PacMan and Mortal Kombat video games in the game center.
No problem, my ina bauers getting better by the day. I can feel my back leg stretch a little further each time and my turn while doing the ina bauer tighter. JJ said Friday night that he likes to follow right behind me because I'm his inspiration for doing the ina bauer. Lol. Actually, he's a fast learner, that night he finally was able to get a turn while in the ina bauer glide. I want to get so good at doing the ina bauer, the other figure skaters will be confused when they see me doing it.
It's kind of strange to me that figure skaters like Kara that are at the FS3 level can't do a spread eagle or ina bauer. I know figure skating instructors Chanel and Kelli can do the ina bauer, but I've yet to see them hold the ina bauer for an extended period while going into a turn. They mostly go in a straight line and arch backwards. I don't know about Asia, she may not be able to do it because her body type is built for power. What do you think?
After watching you Friday night, I think you'd do alright in a show. You seem to be a much stronger skater wearing your figure skater skates than the Vapors. Although, you do need to work on your spread eagle and ina bauer. :]
Look at who my instructors are, Manu and Mark. I learn a lot from them. Especially from Mark, whenever he talks about some aspect of skating, I listen carefully and try to take in as much as I am able. Ricky may be a good skater, but he's not very good at passing on instruction. A great skater like Mark can explain it carefully and takes the time to help you if you're interested in learning how to do what he does. There's very few skaters out there that will do that. Terri helps me a lot too.
I think the girl in the video is Samantha. I went to the ice palace show on Wednesday night. I've got footage of her using the same movements, though her break dancing on the ice was a bit strange I have to say. Not to say she's not a good skater, but that's the first time I've ever seen anyone doing the 'worm' on the ice in ice skates. That's more than a little bizzare to me. What was my only complaint?
NO INA BAUERS! WHY!?!? How in the world can you have a school full of Ice skating students, and not a single person doing an ina bauer. God was I disappointed. I felt sorry for the spills the students were taking, one older guy did an double axel and landed sideways, but I'm not sure if his face bounced off the ice when he wiped out. I was thinking, ouch. You could see everytime they crashed infront the audience they were upset. Well, it takes a lot of courage to be there in the first place.
Ricky can "surf" but not the spread eagle. I had him try it several months ago, he couldn't do it. As far as I know, he hasn't done it. JJ's the only one I see practicing the spread eagle. He needs to lock his legs out more on the outside edge. Dillon does a good surf going straight, but he needs to practice leaning back and forth and getting the sway going.
I'm surprised, I would have expected them to be quite worn and loose seeing how that guy skates. His skates must be pretty stiff. See why I use Nikes? (Not Nike/bauers) Graf's are pretty comfortable too, I'm trying to get a hold of Graf 735's Texalites and put some T-blades on them. Everytime I call a company, they tell me, "No problem, I'll call you back." They never call me back. >:[
Oh yah, last Wednesday when I went skating. I wiped out good doing the ina bauer. Everybody saw it. What was the first thing I did was get to my feet quick. Dillon was like, "Man you got to your feet fast." I was like yah, I didn't want to get sprayed by Mark. Emma was laughing. I asked her what I did wrong, and she said, "I don't know, all I saw was your feeting going up in the air." :)
Nah, JJ's not like that. I've never gotten that impression about that from him. He's only trying to improve his abilities whenever he does things. Mark, Manu and I on the other hand... :p
Weird part is, JJ's does the cool moves when he's not being filmed. Then when I film him, he can't replicate the same moves exactly. I think it's got to do with how JJ's trying to do the move for the cameras position instead of focusing on the movement.
I know, I'm really jealous of her spiral. I wish I could get my leg up that high. It would look a little strange for a guy to do it in hockey skates (but I do the spread eagle and ina bauer already), yet I think it would look impressive.
I don't know, they didn't announce the results. Must be a political correctness deal. If I had to guess, it was first girl on the ice in a white suit that probably placed first place. She had more technical skill but wasn't as graceful, I still like the girl in the video above.

who is this samantha is she good?
skaternerder 3 years ago
For a figure skater, I think she's pretty good. But, I'd like to see her do the spread eagle or ina bauer movement.
JediFarce 3 years ago
i don't really know about Coach Asia.
The only thing i really know is that she is really tall :P
sourxsour 3 years ago
Yep, she's a big girl. I call her the Comet. She can really move during a race. She's close to Mark in speed.
JediFarce 3 years ago
yes i do :P

not about winning.
it's about having fun^^

Sure is, by the way, have you seen JJ's waltz jump? It's actually pretty good. One of the guards there said JJ should become a figure skater already.

She's actually performing to Mariah Carey's 'Hero.' If she sees this, she's probably think, "What the devil!?!" :]
JediFarce 3 years ago
because i thought 'no! an ice skater is finally dancing to japanese music!'
sourxsour 3 years ago
The music matches her movements pretty good doesn't it? :) Were I a figure skater in this competition I'd proabably use a japanese tune.
JediFarce 3 years ago
okay :]
you changed the music right?
sourxsour 3 years ago
No, no...that's the music she was dancing to....Bareta? :p
JediFarce 3 years ago

if i look carefully she looks like Samantha.
