NO! This guy does NOT know what he's doing! He's making some of the most beginner mistakes. For example, look at the gap between his thumb and index at 0:58. That's the first thing a teacher tells his student not to do.
im only 17 and i already got tendonitis in my wrist by gripping the stick to hard and playing with my thumbs towards the roof, now ive got a good teacher whose fixed my technique and now i play exactly like the guy in the video, so for wat its worth listen to this guy coz u dont wanna hurt yourself
@SophaCheeX3 It all depends on what technique you are using. If your teacher told you that, it's correct. This however is also correct. It will however probably be easier to follow the lessons if you follow your techers instructions, at least in class.
You shouldn't be afraid to try new things though. Drumming is all about finding what suits you and making it your own. No real right or wrongs.
Thanx dude. :)

Playing with a little bit of space isn't that bad.

excellent . perfect example of matched grip . Nice and relaxed for those diddles . Would like to see the stick coming up to the vertical more though.

you should have relaxed grip but not super relaxed like the way you demonstrate, you should hold on a little more to get fuller sounds
