  • Comment removed

  • Hmmm// @1:53 and 3:26 what man would hear that and still remain where he is?...why don't my wife cry like that for me on the phone when I storm off!! I swear I'm married to the wrong woman!!!

  • CLASSIC!!! JUST...A ....CLASSIC. Mary J Blige did a very good job...this song can only be resung by a bold singer..and Mary stepped up to the plate and did the song justice!!! The original is simply ...beautiful..as Al Green would say!!!!

  • Coming from Mr. and Mrz Beedie.....we both agree yea mary j did her thang wit the remake of the song, but once again Rose did her muther fucking thang! i betcha dat nigga she was singing to came back home and neva left.

  • Who cares who sang it, who did covers of it, who did the better job or whatever. Enjoy this beautiful song. Be happy that we were blessed enough to have ALL artists who have sung this do it.

  • this is music

  • serious R&B...music...BUT...I ain't goin down...lol

  • Mary kept the music alive you stupid low life idiots!

People have no life and stay hating! She kept Rose

Royce relevant and did a great job doing it by making

this song an even bigger hit and bigger classic!!!

SHE PAID HOMAGE! N NOW Y'ALL MAD Y'ALL

HAVE TO PAY HOMAGE TO HER!

  • @MakeSense10

Rose Royce was relevant because of their music worldwide and the soundtrack to a classic movie which this song is a part of not some third- rate R&B Hip- Hop singer. You young people have some low standards or ignorance of history.

  • @MakeSense10 No one is saying that MJB did a bad job and to say that she made Rose Royce relevant in bollocks their one of the greatest all time funk bands they do not need anybody to make us stand up and recognize them don't be daft. The only homage to be made is to ROSE ROYCE dick weed !!!

  • i wish the whole song was like the hook

  • hook is the best part

  • Best song from Car Wash

  • and the sound of the rain against my window pane is slowly driving me insane...GIRL, i'm goin down...i'm goin down...cuz u ain't around...my whole world's upside down. i love it and i hate it all at once. but mostly i love it.

  • @Rabshakeh9 I have been there

  • 33yrs on and it still rates as one of my favourites. loved it then and still do. Great to hear again.

  • Her voice is so sexy

  • Broken Heart

  • rose royce was just bad to the bone.

  • I agree Gwen Blaze's version is the best. All others are just clever imitations. Gwen put her classic signature on this song, no one can take it away from her.

  • Just Blaze is a genius

  • reminds me of car wash, best movie of my childhood!

  • @Z1ChinaWhite Absolutely.....car wash was an excellent movie and even better soundtrack. It had Rose Royce's best songs.......I love Just wanna get next to you even better!

  • @CreepyTheButcher Totally agree...one of the best soundtracks around! my 2 fave Rose Royce songs are Just Wanna Get Next to You n Love Don't Live Here Anymore....Love it!

  • @Z1ChinaWhite Oh mos def!!!! My kids even like it! one of the best of all time!

  • Mary J. Didnt Mess It Up... But Nothings EVER As Good As The ORIGINAL

  • @theehitman44 Except Whitney Huston redoing 'I Will Always Love You" originally by Dolly Parton(:

  • Mary J. messed this song up. Thank God ,I remembered what this version was like.... perfection

  • @obdiane You are crazy......Mary J did an amazing job with this song.

  • Beautiful song and songtress!

  • @Nerfops99 why? Because you think I like Marcus?

  • marcus did this song justice

  • listening to this song because of Marcus from xFactor....

  • @mdavis95949 U suck.

  • Gwen Dickey is the most under rated singer of all time..Rose Royce songs will live for EVER !!

  • My goodnight song - classic !!!

  • This song is criminally underrated.

  • @kale1doscope so true

  • This is real music here

  • I just noticed Youtube smart arse's got ....Artist: Mary J. Blige buy on AmazonMP3.....Woww!

  • The hooker in "CAR WASH" part....this is the J'Zaaaaaam!!

  • I'm going down, cause you aint around...

  • You know someone must have broke her heart!

  • I wish it was better quality....Really really great song!

  • I didn't know about the Rose Royce version until now. I'm glad Mary kept it genuine.

  • This is a mean bass!

  • Cant top this!

  • TIMELESS

  • @nycenotnice LOVE TIMELESS SONGS

  • It would have been nice if MJ Blige has done something different with this song instead of trying to copy Gwen and Rose Royce's original version....WHICH STILL ROCKS AFTER 33 YEARS !!!! Folks need to leave the music of the 70's alone, cuz they will NEVER top the originals !!!!

  • @Seashelldiver right on! right on!!!!!

  • @Seashelldiver Hell no she's one of the few remakes that was really good!

If she changed it, you'd say she tried to hard and butchered it!

  • The guitar players fro is awesom

  • @StankyBoxing Rose Royce wasn't one person or a diva it's the name of the group

  • NOW THIS IS THE ORIGINAL, NO DISRESPECT TO MARY J. IS ALL GOOD

  • @KnowImillian but who tf ask u 4 ur opinion tho psst #sityoassdown

  • Different singers have ways of singing and style, if everyone sound the same it would be hard to point out who made each song, beside, it's just a year, people can bring back sounds of the 70's, 80's, 90's, it goes on and on, like the clothes, I know, there are a lot of good music back then, but, give the new singers that came a chance to prove that they are good too.

  • Yes i agree ain`t nothing like the rose royce. but mary did the song vey well and opened it up to regan babies that may not have heard it

  • ROSE ROYCE WHOOT WHOOT!!

  • It shouldnt even matter who sang what first. The point is the song is STILL being sung and heard today.

  • Verry Berry Sadd!

  • This is it.

  • I wonder how many actually realize that Blige's was NOT the original version. Everytime someone sings it or covers it, they say "Mary J. Blige.

  • @ephitania Sweetie, it's because they are youngins, they don't even know there was a CAR WASH movie. Oh and believe me I have that movie and CRUSH GROOVE... Those were the good old days, when music had feeling, words were meaningful. Now a days, they can't come up with anything new, its awful, so now they are going back to OLD SCHOOL, GOOD MUSIC!!! Sometimes they try to change it up, but its not the same as the ORIGINAL!!! Old School will always be here. Peace :)

  • This is the best version, maybe 'cause it's Rose Royce and plus it's a classic as well. This kind of music make you think, and might make you want to take a drink. I need to tell someone, sorry, please forgive me ,and come on home, going down.I hope you see this C.N.

  • I find myself coming back to this version more than the others. Classics are always the best! Mary J did do this song justice but I liek their version better. Props to Jazzlyn on X-Factor for bringing back a Classic!

  • Am I the only one that remembers one of the Mowry twins singing it in the show "Sister Sister"...? I thought she sang it decent... *shrugs*

  • @iTube217 i been trying find that for years

  • @iTube217 Show You Right

  • Gotta agree the original is the best. But as far as remakes go, Mary J Blige did way better than most other remakes I've heard. Ironically, looks like youtube's song id software has incorrectly attributed this song to Mary J Blige.

  • Yeah I used spell checker so I could learn the proper way to spell 'jealous'. Mojohelmet and Valkour22 your opinions and mine about Jazzlyn's singing ability just ain't the same! You think she out sang Mary J and Rose Royce...and I don't. In fact I think that's crazy. But you are free to shout whatever craziness you want from Youtube to Facebook. To me she is a marginal singer. But she's only 16 maybe she'll get better... there, I threw you a bone. Feel better?

  • @BBwjb3 all u got to do is play Rolls Royce live version of this song agaisnt Jazzlyn's 1 shot live version and u will see Jazzlyn totally owned this song and is the better singer with more emotion and vocal range. Its not even close!!!

  • @valkour22 You're crazy as fuck Rose Royce is a God amongst Divas. You newbies to the singing game don't know shit. Sucka.

  • @StankyBoxing AGREED

  • i just heard JAZZLYN LITTLE sing this on THE X FACTOR.it was by far the best version i have heard since the original. a new star is born.....

  • @mojohelmet yes, Mary J didn t surpass the orginal, think she even hurt it but Jazzlyn owned it. Her version sounds better than the orginal and that is saying alot

  • @valkour22 Please.... Don't make me laugh.... I just watched Jazzlyn's version. It's not great. She's too young to sing this song. You have to have lived and loved and lost a few times to properly sing this song. And the hype about Jazzlyn is waaaaayyyy over blown. Her breath control was horrible, and sometimes she found the right key after searching for it for a minute.... I could find 100 sixteen year olds singing in churches across this country that would blow her off the stage....

  • @BBwjb3 you are out of your mind! if you dont see this girls natural born talent, you come across as one of the people who THINK they can sing. im an ok singer myself, and i know the goods when i hear them. you might have to eat your words down the line.i also caught a whiff of jelosly!

  • @mojohelmet You got me... I'm just jelos.

  • @BBwjb3 ok,your JEALOS!

  • @mojohelmet Got me again! I'm jealos!

  • @BBw let me put it this way mr. spell checker, you are a tool.

  • @mojohelmet I think her audition was as good as Carrie Underwoods from American Idol and I thought I would never say anyone could compare to that audition, but I stand corrected now. Yor are right Jazzlyn is a natural and even showed more emotion and vocal range than the orginal on a 1 shot live performance. If you really want to see how this girl ranks in singing ability play Rolls Royce live performance of this song and compare it to Jazzlyn,s. Jazzlyn's is 10x better !!!!!

  • i did just that, and JAZZLYNS' was better by far.it was much more powerful and engaging.

  • @mojohelmet LOL

  • @THEmrGooodwineSHOW you are a dick head!

  • @mojohelmet you are very funny

  • @THEmrGooodwineSHOW thanks for thinking so.i just think you are a loser! i guess i wont be getting that christmas card now! aw shucks

  • @mojohelmet lol i know right and this coming from somebody with no videos and no suscribers ,yea im the loser more like winner

  • @BBwjb3 This track ur listening to at the moment is a studio version Jazzlyn's is live, think that says it all.

  • @BBwjb3 She is in tune the whole song and its live. breathing dosent show weakness but power of the singer. Karen Carpenter was selected the greatest singer of all time by juliard school of music and u can hear her breath on about every track. This is because she held the mic so cloae to her mouth which other singers avoid because it shows weakness in their voice. Jazzlyn is 16 and used a wider range than Gwen did on this song. If it was a studio version it would destroy Gwen's and MJB's .

  • yes

  • @eugenemusictv

What are you talking about, this song is part of a classic soundtrack/movie that sold millions and has been played on T.V. for nearly 30 years. So everybody has heard these songs through the years, my problem with young black people is they defend the indefensible in terms of music all in the name of "keeping it real". Mary J Bilge merely sang the backing/vocal guide track, there is nothing vocally original in what she did.

And she can't compare to Gwen Dickey on a good day.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheNewsoul2 Gwen was and still is the truth. I'll take the original any day!! I like Mary J but she was the original dubb girl thanks to Puffy! Mary eventually found her own voice thank goodness. I love that she has come into her own!

  • @eugenemusictv Yeah.. I'm also gonna have to disagree - everyone would know this song anyway. Maybe you wouldn't - but everyone who pays attention to good music would have caught on. I like Mary and all --- but she just revamped an already amazing and well known song.

  • @eugenemusictv Got it. In the future please say what you mean. We shouldn't have to read between lines to decipher what you're trying to say. Use your words, as you finally have. Thanks. & congrats on your CD collection - I'm not sure what it has to do with anything since there was no attack on your personal taste in music, but I'm sure it's wonderful.

  • oh boy...

  • 9 people went down and swallowed a load.

  • This is real soulful R&B. When this song broke, all the DJs were spinning it!

  • Gwen does this song such justice. I love her voice.

  • I remember seeing Rose Royce on a VH1 special. The show treated this group as a one-hit wonder. Other than Car Wash, they have this song plus others that have influenced hip hop.

  • It kinda annoys me that in the info thing it credits Mary J Blige as the artist..

  • this is the only instance when i think the remake is as good as the original mary tore it up

  • The Song I Caught The Wife Cheatin On

  • @Flying82C DAMN lol..sorry to hear that. thats fucked up

  • @Flying82C thats really fucked up dont hate the song for it though

  • This song is a timeless classic.

  • oldies not but goodies but goodies!

  • the 8 people that dislike this song is GOING DOWN!

  • I don't think Mary's version was that bad, it just wasn't this. When you have a classic as hard as this, it's tough to follow. Kinda like what she did with Chaka Khan's joint and Caron Wheeler.. not bad, but just couldn't hold a candle to the originals..

Actually, she did mess up Back II Life for me so blah..whatever, stop remaking my classics dammit.. lol

  • after hearing this song for 30 years, i always turn the station when mary j blige version would play. mary j version sounds like a bootleg counterfeit of a classic. sorry, but mary did a disservice by trying to cover this.

  • The original. Rose Royce!!!!

    Gwen Dickey in the lead

  • Comment removed

  • Before Mary J there was the one and only Rose Royce- love it

  • please there's nothing out there now that can compare to this music or that movie or those times everything including people and there attitudes now are pothetic!!

  • This is the best version of this song. This young black ones these days are totally unfamiliar with the great black music of years past. I worry for them, they are missing the greatest blacks singers to every walk this earth. Sorry Mary, you tried girl, but you cannot top this sister's original version.

  • @Jevezy I

m a young one ... ok young adult (20 years old) and I am familiar with this song and I love it. .. Thanks to my parents and my grandmother. I love music from the 90's on back to Bach. The music from the by gone years has substance and that what I like.

    ... sorry for rambling

  • @DarkNinjaChick : Well I am proud to meet a young black adult whose parents and grandparents cared enough to instill in her a love for the great black music of the past. My grandparents and parents were like that, and now I am passing the legacy on to my children. I have nothing against rap or modern R&B but I feel that black music of the past is the foundation of all black music today, and the young ones need to know this music as well. Peace!

  • @DarkNinjaChick : You do not to apologize for talking about how your parents and grandparents encouraged the love of these great music. I am glad they did, I wish more parents and grandparents were like yours and mine. :)

  • old r n b motown is best

  • @NAM19661967

No doubt about that. The entire era of the 70s is filled with great R&B Songs. Artist were able to perform live on shows like Soul Train and the Midnight Special, but they sounded like they did on the Albums. The Artists of today, cannot even perform live, some sound so crappy out of Studio, that they have to lip synch.

  • Rose Royce got more attention for the Song "Car Wash" but their best songs were ballads like "I want to get next to you" and "I'm going down".

The 70s was unquestionably the best decade for music.

  • @StevenC32 So very true and " Wishing On A Star " is also in the mix too.

  • @meyokomochigary

Wishing on a Star certainly was one of their best songs. I just wish that the Artists of today, had half as much talent as Rose Royce.

  • @StevenC32 Right behind the 70's is the 90's

  • @StevenC32 eh, for soul music, maybe. certainly not for dance music!

  • Well Mary j aint No 80's baby either, she's just an older female Singer who was having it Rough in life and did a Big come up Keeping Rose Royce Lyrics in the Top 10 people, She never claim to have written the song she was just bringing some Real talk to our younger generation. Thumbs up if you honestly agree

  • woooweee this is it right here and mary l blige aint got nuthing 2 do with it....nuthin

  • Wow, I thought this was Mary's song=(

But I still love Mary's version. She sung it with so much pain and realness, you can really feel her.

  • I'm not going to lie, Mary does sing the hell out of this song. But Gwen...nuff said!! Props to Mary and all, but you can tell that Gwen lived this song.

  • Love this song. Evrtthing going wrong.

  • For those of you who are wondering Norman Whitfield wrote this song and the whole Car Wash soundtrack... This is CLASSIC!!!!!

  • Okay people come on even i know that Mary J didn t write this song. I also know that she didn't originally sing this song and i'm fourteen. Lol I love so many oldies this is what even I grew up listening to. This type of music is truely amazing. I always joke with a friend of mine that we were born in the wrong era. We both love music like this. :-)

  • this another people don't know anything about

  • yes

  • Car Wash!!! Good movie!!!

  • I'd like to dedicate this song to the Oprah and her last show.

  • i was looking for this song and now i found it... yessss i heart youtube lol

  • i was looking for this song and now i found it... yessss i heart youtube lol

  • But I do agree that music today sucks on a much larger scale than back then. But saying Mary J. Blige can't sing? That's foolishness. What about Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, Anthony Hamilton, John Legend, Maxwell? Do they all not have talent because they make music today? End of my rant, lol.

  • @camking88 thats what im saying, its all who you listen to. There is plenty of good artist in every generation, you just got to find them. The best artist today may not be getting the radio play, but they are easily accessible on youtube.

  • Man old people are bitter as hell man, yall crack me up. I love how we come here to hear this video and many similar to pay our respects, and the older folk are just bashing todays music. If we can appreciate your music, why can't you appreciate ours. Matter fact why can't yall appreciate anything young folks do? Hating ass old people lol, I love yall though

  • @jamtmac1 Thank you. I get tired of all this "everything was better in my day" shit, They act like God stopped giving talent to people who were born after 1970. People are ragging on Mary for remaking this song, like artists in the '70s never remade anything. And to be honest, I've heard songs from the '70s that make me cringe and songs from today that floor me (rap songs included). But I guess that's the circle. What they won't admit is their parents hated their shit just like they hate ours.

  • Well damn Mary is anything your orignal?? Shit.

  • a young friend of my daughter's modeled gladiator sandals for me, and was crushed when I told her they had been out about six times since the 70's, and I told her, "Honey, the 70's had some of the ugliest clothes you have ever seen!"

  • honestly i've only heard mary's version and i'm 36. both are very similar in my opinion.

  • @PatsBooks You are right. There is nothing new just a twist. I love when people put a twist on things.

  • both versions are classics

  • oh boyyyy

  • @xthisismoe95 LOL! If only they could have experienced the decade of the 70s, they would understand that music like this was expressed from real feelings.

  • I remember this from sister sister when tamera sang it :)

  • This is what it's all about!!!!! OLD SCHOOL BAAAAAABY!!! ROSE ROYCE... nuff said!!!

  • Mary J version is just the popular one. It's nice everyone knows this song though.

  • @zanlovesmusic

Mary's version is only popular with the 30 and under crowd. Folks born before that heard it first in the 70s. It is just new to y'all. I always laugh at the younger folks thinking y'all doing something new. It has been done before, even the clothes you guys wear.

  • i love this song

  • mary j blige was the right person to redo this song because its sound alot like the original

  • this is on the car wash movie album, cos i got it and theres alot of songs that need putting up from that album cos i cant find em on here... peace peace

  • All AbOUt tHE OldiES!

  • they steal the old school. gen y's have not creativity!!!!!

  • just blaze

  • How do you dislike this?????
